I can remember like yesterday, standing in that crowd with my long hair, grey jumper n jeans feeling cold n waiting to see my favourite band after 3 days of camping, no sleep, smoking weed n drinking. It was an amazing end to my first festival aged 21. There was a rumour in the crowd that Kurt was ill n they wouldnt be playing. Looking back is crazy... I can also remember my then gf coming up to me straight faced n saying "I just heard the news... Kurt Cobain is dead"... I was choked. Later that evening she asked if I was ok because the blood ran from my face when she told me the news...so sad. As a guitarist myself, I felt (like most Nirvana fans) I had a connection with him like he wrote for us. To this day I still listen to Nirvana and to this day I still believe that he died under suspicious circumstances. Id like to see that case reopened n looked into before all people involved get old n die. RIP Mr Cobain.

They absolutely nailed this, and frankly it’s a bitter sweet experience watching it. I’m Gen X-er who spent the first 21 years of my life living on Capitol Hill in Seattle, and was 21 the last time Nirvana played live there. I loved/still love Nirvana and when I found out they were playing the Seattle Center Coliseum, I very clearly remember thinking, “You should go see them live while you still can because you never know how long they’ll be around.” But I was such a reclusive little stoner; while they were playing their last Seattle show, I was home at home in my apartment, 3 miles away, stoned out of my mind (probably listening to In Utero). So yeah, I missed my opportunity to see them live and it’s one of the greatest regrets of my life; that little mistake will follow me to my grave.

I love nirvana. but I wouldn’t say they r completely original. they obviously took a lot of inspiration from the pixies & other bands
@spacegrass27385 жыл бұрын
They didn’t rip those bands off.They loved those bands and took inspiration from them.Thats what every band has done in history.They took that and created a sound of its own.Nirvana started a movement in the 90’s and should be cherished for it.It is ok to love more than one band you know.
@paulramon58915 жыл бұрын

Quintessential Cobain songcraft. The structure of the song shouldn't work and for most anyone else it wouldn't, yet he injects it with enough catchy melody and brilliant chord changes to make it better than anyone could ever expect. That sloping melody he uses as the chorus transitions back into the verse makes it blend together so well you realise this is a genius at work.
@dynjarren75236 жыл бұрын
M Sharman Good Analysis! He was a genius songwriting talent. I play some rhythm guitar 🎸 and I can play a few Nirvana songs. Teen Spirit is fairly easy to play but when I realized he was a genius was when I played Lithium. You know the song. I’m so ugly that’s okay cause so are you etc. The chord changes in that song are so strange and unusual that I have problems playing it. The chord goes up then down then reverses and then goes back up again. Im used to a straightforward chord progression like 123 left middle right. Three chords going straight up for example. Lithium is all over the place chordwise and yet the lyrics fits the song perfectly. Its even a funny kind of song! When I first learned how to play the unusual chord patterns, I said to myself this is sheer genius! No one comes up with chords changes like this. I know I wouldn’t. He was different and unique! One of a kind and an amazing talent! I miss him!
@dynjarren75235 жыл бұрын
Refisher I meant to say the chord changes were unusual not necessarily hard to play. It would throw me every time I tried to play lithium though because the chords changes are unusual.
@MS-eb8cf5 жыл бұрын
Lithium is another great example and i'm glad you used it; that chord progression is 100% unique, which is pretty unbelievable if you think about all the songwriting cliches used in pop and rock music over the years. It's difficult to come up with an original chord progression and yet he managed it several times. Truly great artist.

which goes to show that its no surprise that david bowie loved the songwriting too...chord structures that the average person would never think of, or would considered to be "wrong"
