Kurt seriously wrote some of the sickest riffs, and his progressions were fucking perfectly put together and on top of that his vocal harmonies fit those riffs perfectly. He really was an amazing song writer. I don't care if some of his riffs are "easy to play" which, in my opinion every single band of ever has riffs that are easy to play. Some are more technical for sure but every song has a root and those are usually fairly easy to play. It's writing them that's hard and then doing it over and over again. Massive respect to Kurt and Nirvana. Krist is really a very very good bassist. He came up with some amazing lines to Kurt's songs. Lithium and lounge act are my personal favorites by Krist.

Everyone should just sit back and appreciate the fact that there was a time when some of the most popular musical artists had no desire to be main stream. They didn’t make sure to update social media pages, they weren’t trying to be influencers, they didn’t use every single form of media to personally promote themselves, they weren’t brand ambassadors for expensive bougie clothing companies that most of the masses couldn’t even afford. There was a time when some of the most popular artists of music we’re just kids that found an outlet for expression and the rest of the world was intrigued

Definitely wouldn’t describe Nirvana as “no desire to be mainstream” nor would I agree there was ever a time period where that was the norm. How you get there has changed a lot for sure over the years, but if you don’t think the Beatles would be doing all the things you mentioned in today’s age you have no clue what you’re talking about. Not any bands fault that’s how the game is played in the modern age
@wyleetolson9182
@wyleetolson9182 3 жыл бұрын
@@derekhibbard9018 That’s not really even the point of my comment dude. I’m just trying to have a fun recollection of a bygone time. But if you need to play devils advocate, go for it. Even when they were at the height of their popularity they hated interviews or any kind of promotion, they still did it because they knew it was important but it doesn’t mean that they enjoyed it. They didn’t spend their time concerned about how to get the most followers. They didn’t promote brands or have MTV filming them having some lavish rockstar life. It’s just an attitude that most artists don’t embrace anymore that’s all I’m saying. Didn’t say whether it was good or bad, just saying it was an intriguing difference.

I love all of Nirvanas eras. I can't even pick a "favorite" Nirvana record because it just depends on my mood at any particular time. Same with their eras. I think they were fantastic all throughout 1989-1994 all in different ways. I will say that I think In Utero was their most evolved album but I tend to listen to Nevermind the most. Era wise I'd say Reading Festival 1991 was pretty damn great. Right before they blew up and Kurt was truly on fire.

I remember back in 2006, it took me quite a long time (more than a day) to download this concert in DVD format from a little known torrent site for underground bootleg videos. I was so excited and could hardly wait until the download was finished and watched it over and over. Back then I really thought, that I own something rare and special, that only diehard Nirvana fans have watched. Nowadays, as I can see, all these rare, precious early Nirvana gigs are on KZbin, just a click away.. How time (and technology) changes everything..: )

back in the day you used to have to track down some shady guy and he would sell you a cassette that had been ripped off of a soundboard at some live show and barely mixed. from there it was all your imagination to even discern what song was being played. you're right.. still amazing to feel like you had something noone else did.

He wasn’t though. All the songs were already written and Kurt wanted someone to fill out live shows. Where Jason really helped was he paid $500 for the band to record this little album called Bleach. He only lasted about a year before Kurt told him to get lost, then he played Bass for Soundgarden for a bit before Chris did the same and kicked him out. Apparently he was outspoken and wanted to write and be big parts of each band.. they wanted live players that’s it. He’d have had better luck starting his own band but I don’t think he could write music well. Who knows.

@@MrJvnorth I don’t find it that hard to believe myself. His life went in a different direction completely. But he can always say he was in Nirvana and played with Cobain. No one can ever take that away from him! Also, I heard that he paid for the recording of Bleach $600! If that’s true then he even financed the beginning of the band. And I don’t think paid him back ever either. They were too broke at the time to do that. Now it would cool if someone paid him back and even added some interest to it. Don’t you think that would be fair? I know life isn’t fair but sometimes it’s good to see some Poetic Justice done. Like Pete Best, who was kicked out of the Beatles, was finally paid a piece of the Beatles fortune for his drumming on Anthology 1. At least $250 Grand, if not more. Which is a good chunk of money anytime. I like to see people get paid, especially musicians, because they usually get ripped off. What’s your view? 👏🏻🎸😎

It's funny how life goes by, I remember being on the bus to high-school when it was announced on the radio he was gone. His music spoke to us in way that is indescribable back then. It's still indescribable, now I'm on a journey to being an old man but I find myself listening to Nirvana on the KZbin and re living old memories.

I was on the bus heading home from school and the radio was playing. I could just make out the announcement over all the noise but I heard correctly. I will never forget that moment. I still feel like life stopped for many of our generation from that moment. I came from a logging town like Kurt did and can identify with some similar childhood struggles as well. 43 now, been listening to Nirvana more than ever recently. Man I miss those guys

*HISTORY IS BEING MADE AND I'M TRYING TO GET THE BARTENDER'S ATTENTION* A fleeting moment. A snap shot. Just another bar band. Just another show. $100 and free beer. An original song with, what? 15 words? 🤣 People in the club screaming in each other's ears because what they have to say is much more important than a no-name band from Aberdeen. "I can't even hear what he's saying... Something about high school?" But they stood on the cusp of graduation. And life was getting ready to hit hard, as it does. Now, two decades later there are millions of us watching a video that could have been lost to obscurity; nodding our heads and whisper/yelling "NO RECESS!" like it's the most meaningful thing we've ever heard. And, who knows? Maybe it is. All work and no play makes us all burn out and fade away. Dammit, Kurt, we miss you, man. We could really use your twisted wisdom right now. You didn't want to be a spokesman for a generation. You didn't want to be our John Lennon. You didn't want to be a martyr. You didn't want greatness thrust upon you. But we really needed someone. I'm sorry it had to be you. But... "Won't you believe it, It's just [your] luck?"
