I was there. The lad in the vest on the right side of the screen at 02:15 This was a big night for me. My girlfriend at the time had gotten tickets for this but at the last minute she couldn’t go, so I went alone, not knowing Nirvana and just to see the taping. Their performance blew my mind, as you can see in the video. I remember I had a hair cut the day before, but after seeing Nirvana I let my hair grow out long and didn’t cut it again until 1994 when I heard Oasis for the first time in London. nirvana are playing their hearts out and doing as professional of a job as possible as entertainers who are creating content for an industry giant like MTV. but MTV's production is just terrible. what are those three idiots behind the band doing on stage? why was there a camera on a crane just to show how few people were there and just how many of those few were standing around barely into the music? how is this supposed to make the music seem awesome or create hype? it's a good thing nirvana didn't need this production to do either, because it feels like it is actively trying to ruin it. but I really believe they just didn't know how to produce music like this. they gave it the same treatment they would have given any "hair-metal" or "cock rock" band over the last 5 years. the very last time MTV was ahead of its time was when it aired Michael Jackson's Thriller in 1983. thanks for the upload though, this is an interesting relic to watch after all of these years.
