This song is probably on every 'Greatest Songs' lists🎶 Kurt Cobain said about the lyrics that " it's just making fun of the thought of having a revolution" and Dave Grohl (the drummer) said that 'Seeing Kurt write the lyrics ..five minutes before he first sings them, you just kind of find it a little hard to believe that the song has a lot to say about something. Actually I would say that Kurt writing songs fast transferred different type of honesty directly from him. I have been Nirvana fan for 25 years and I promise his lyrics have a ton of meaning in them, but not in conventional way. Certain songs are easier to get than others, but the most important thing is the feeling that you get when you listen the song. In that way, knowing the exact lyrics isn't even important.

It doesn't make sense, or does it, who knows. Nirvana exemplified the Alternative Rock attitude, angst, irony, the wisdom of knowing you don't know a GD thing or maybe you know everything. Kurt's voice is awesome because it is just pure raw emotion.

I think that was more a comment of the stream of consciousness writing style that Kurt had. I suppose that's kind of a feature of the genre (especially grunge) but that's a product of Cobaines example

This song is full of heroin use references. "Load up on guns, bring your friends" guns are hypodermic needles, the dirty word is heroin. "Hello hello hello, how low?" refers to passing out and his friends trying to wake him up (how low refers to them checking his pulse). With the lights out is less dangerous refers to them not calling attention to their drug party, feeling stupid and contagious is the feeling of being high. A mulatto (the color of heroin when it's burnt) an albino (his arm) a mosquito (the prick of the needle) my libido! (how he feels sexually aroused while high). The rest is more self explanatory

@@astrzmbie9968 My understanding is that he had at least tried it couple of times. But I think it's about the heroin epidemic on Seattle at the time. It was pretty horrific, some area had more heroin users per square mile than any other place on USA. Based on what Kurt usually wrote, I can believe that WiruSenpai is correct. Kurt wrote about huge problems and tragedies, and sometimes on twisted ways.

Unpopular Opinion: In the third verse I BELIEVE he says, "I find it hard, it's hard to find, THE WILL, whatever never mind". Everyone thinks it's "I find it hard, it's hard to find, oh well, whatever never mind". If you slow it down you can hear him pronouncing the "Th".

What Michael Jackson was to pop music, Nirvana was to 90s grunge! The teen spirit reference is never verbally used, but it makes sense. It was the cologne used to block the smell of weed and drugs for teens in their parents home. This song is about drug and drug use, so it’s not hypocritical like you say

In the song you can notice how depressed he was sadly he shot himself because of his depression and drug use but loved the reaction :)

He certainly wasn't depressed when he made this song or the Nevermind album. Kurt was murdered, he was divorcing his wife and already called lawyer to write her off from his will. He had 3 times the max amount of heroin that the heaviest addicts could survive. Also no fingerprints in the gun, or the shells, or the pen that was used to write the "suicide note". Watch Soaked in Bleach. That documentary has only parts of the evidence, but enough to convince anybody. It has real experts explaining the most important evidence. He certainly was an addict, like most rock n rollers at that time. But he had a daughter that he truly loved. Also all of his friends say he was not suicidal, only her wife that inherited everything spread the suicide lies. Also her wife left a bag to her lawyer where they found handwriting practice sheets that matched the writing on the suicide note. Seattle police closed the case immediately without any investigation, and they are the only ones that could open the case. Sadly this is how addicts get treated everywhere. People who have been shot from the back of their head, twice, get called suicides.
