And for the other commentor, according to another comment from a translated lyric video for the song, during the actual studio recording that was supposed to be in the album. The demo(s) didn't have it because it wasn't ever originally intended to be there, but "Kurt messed up during the track recording and just stuck with it" (quote from commentor.) Not sure if it's factually correct but it's the most reasonable explaination of it.

I went to this concert - I remember it like it was yesterday, I remember telling myself that Nirvana is and will always be my favourite band... I had the time of my life when I saw him live, but I never knew how precious the memory would turn out until he passed away.. now it's something I'll never forget and probably think about every day.

Yes! Krist played a variation. After hitting the G note (3rd fret on the 4th string), he plays the G note one octave higher (5th fret on the 2nd string). You can grab a bass and try it yourself.
