At 2:27 what is inside the black metal? Is there a soft material? I'm curious if the black metal could scratch the lens barrel when putting it on and off.
@MikeMu2 жыл бұрын
It’s a soft felt like material. With care you won’t scratch the barrel.

Thanks for the great video. One question, are there any dark corners in the pictures when the camera is zoomed out?

Hey Mike, what are your thoughts on the SmallRig? It is actually secure? I am having a decision paralysis because I really want this to be something I pull out of my bag and shoot and thus I don't want some next-level case that I need to fumble with but at the same time, I do want to have sufficient protection since it's going to bounce within my bag all year long. Thought SmallRig was the perfect solution but the way it mounts is a little off...

I got this one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqOkg3VvftJ2qsU Horrible shutter position, but good grip. Also small enough to fit my external pocket while having a built in arca swiss mount.

Why won't it work for other cameras in the RX100 series? I have a IV that still works perfectly.
@MikeMu3 жыл бұрын
Its because the lens design is different on the VI and VII. Physically, the lens barrel mount will not fit correctly.

Great video, thank you. But what I'm worried about is when my camera goes into power save and it auto-retracts the lens (without warning), will the fact that the ring is attached to it damage my camera? The video does not make it look like it slides off quickly (i.e, it would not just "pop" off); therefore it seems like the camera will be fighting with properly retracting and that might damage the camera. Any thoughts about this? thanks!
@MikeMu2 жыл бұрын
Eventually it might. It has not for me. I think I damage my camera more by having it in the bag and it turning on by itself with no space for the lens to go. This happens a lot. So far my camera(s) still work though.
@TheTrulyJulie2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMu so does the ring and filter mechanism just pop off when the lens starts retracting?
@MikeMu2 жыл бұрын
No. The camera will report a lens error if that happens and shut down. Nothing will pop off typically. The lens motor is not strong enough to push the mount off.
@TheTrulyJulie2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMu so can a "lens error" harm the camera in any way? Is it possible that it might not work if it has a lens error?
@MikeMu2 жыл бұрын
Of course it’s possible. I have lots of them but from it powering on in my camera bag. Luckily camera still works.

Thanks for the video. Do you think putting this on/off could damage the lens assembly? Maybe I'm over thinking things
@MikeMu2 жыл бұрын
Its possible if you aren't careful. I'm sure added wear will result from mistakes mounting and dismounting. But so far, no issues for me.

Hi Mike, thx for the review! I would like to ask whether is there any vignetting or not using this filter adapter? Thx in advance!
@MikeMu5 жыл бұрын
No vignetting. No more than the built in lens on the RX100 VII.

The magnetic filters are WAY better than this. I can't believe you try to tell us that they are problematic. Those you set the sticky magnetic thing part and forget about it. Easy to mount an ND or PL and you can turn off the camera without issues. The magnet is strong too. With this you have to remove and attach Everytime you turn on and off which is ridiculous. Plus much bigger than they have to be. I love my nisi for the 12-24 but this one is not a clever product at all speciallt for a camera where small form factor is key

I like the clean nature of this setup, and can appreciate the convenience of a magnetic one. I just haven't tried one that I really liked yet. The main problems are the sometimes permanent nature of mount. Or it's not permanent enough leading to failure in the field. Both require sticking an additional item semi-permanently on the lens. Whereas this setup is just temporary, no vignetting, no additional footprint on camera. Perfect for landscape photography on the go.

I've read many reviews that state the sticky mount falls off in hot weather and leaves a gunky mess all over the front of the lens. No thanks..
