Awesome video!! You should post it in Armada forums. Literally most helpful video about the whole engine knock issue. Do you live in north by the way? Apparently it affects engines in colder climate more

Thanks! I’ll look at posting in the forums. Thanks for the heads up. I’m near Denver so we do get cold in the winter but nothing too crazy.

Nice video. Thanks for posting. I have a few questions. What oil grade did you use in the first engine? Does the second engine call for the same grade as the first? I bought a 21 Titan in February and it calls for 0w-20 and that's what I am using, however I hear others are using different viscosity. Thanks.
@swipemagnetron3 жыл бұрын
I use 0-20 mobil 1 full synthetic in both engines. There wasn’t a change in grades called for with the new engine. I’ve read 0-20 is for better fuel economy. I have also read that some people have concerns about going with that light of a viscosity. I’m sticking with 0-20. So far so good with the new engine.

I just left the dealer after letting them know I heard a knock. They said it’s because of the “fuel injection” it’s definitely quieter once the car is warmed up. I mentioned the TSB and they still wouldn’t investigate it more. I left and called consumer affairs. Waiting for a call back tomorrow for the next steps. I’d rather it be nothing and KNOW for sure than them just tell me it’s “nothing” I’m covered for 100k so I don’t see what they can’t just check it. Thank you for this video!

Got to the dealer and it was quiet like you said. Wonder if it could be a idling oil pump issue? Left it running while we talked and it began to tick. Thay gave me loaner and called today saying they are putting in a new motor. Thank you for the video.

The before and after video sounds the same. I have a Titan and the injectors are really loud. I also suspect the vvl and vvt systems cause the engine to rin lean at idle which can cause some noise. My engine sounds like it is knocking per the TSB, but haven't noticed anything else; contaminated oil, oil loss, power loss, ect

Thank you for your video. My wife's QX 80 is waiting for a new short block. The engine noise has gotten much worse while waiting for the new block to arrive. Have you ever found a reason for this cyclinder scuffing?
@swipemagnetron2 жыл бұрын
I think it was a manufacturing process issue that caused the scuffing.

Everything still good on this? I’m about to call my dealer. You’ve provided more info in these two videos than I’ve found on Google. Now I have more evidence to present to Nissan if they want to try and back off warranty. Still have 7k miles left.

Hi, it's going good so far with the new engine short block. On 05/21/2021 it'll be a year w/ the new block w/ no issues. Good luck. Print the TSB out and take it when you go in and I'd say to have them listen to the knock w/ a cold engine start. Mine was quieter after the engine was warm and they couldn't hear it initially.
@northernmiteryx11933 жыл бұрын
@@swipemagnetron you can hear ours cold or warm lol. I was almost leaning toward a torque converter or trans pump because of where the sounds coming from. Either way I just scheduled with my dealer. They are actually doing a titan right now and said they are well aware of the NTB and it being a known issue.

Hey good morning. Any updates on the Armada? I am strongly considering purchasing one, but reliability truly scares me. I read about the cylinder knock and block replacement, but I am not convinced it will fix permanently fix the issue. Such a shame because they are amazing vehicles.
@Warlord007337003 жыл бұрын
I know I’m a bit late to answer this but I myself have replaced a few of these short blocks and it does stop the knock/ticking you hear in this video
@GeneralRAAM66663 жыл бұрын
Do you feel that this is a permanent fix for the issue? I am deciding whether or not I should purchase these. I am also planning on racking a lot of miles and keeping the vehicle for a long time if I do get it. I just want to make sure it will be a trouble free reliable vehicle in the long run. I have been reading that these issues plagued Nissan's 5.6, from Titans to the QXs.

Great video! I'm about to purchess a 2019 Armada SL with only 32,000 on it. The Sevice Bulletin says 2017 -2018. Do you know if they have extended it the 2019 years or did the fix this Big problem?
@swipemagnetron Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’m not sure if they got it fixed in 2019. I’d hope they’d have whatever factory process causing the cylinder issue ironed out by then.

The service bulletin extends to January 2019 so vehicles after that date aren't affected.

I just bought a Nissan Amada yesterday, Thursday, September 28 of 2023. I noticed the car has an engine not after I got home similar to what you experienced. Unfortunately my car is five years old and he has 44,000 miles. Do you know if I am covered by any of these warranties?
@swipemagnetron Жыл бұрын
I think 60k was the mileage ceiling for the warranty. I’m not sure if it was three years on time though.

You need to differentiate between the hi pressure direct injectors and engine knock every direct injection car will have a slight noise thats normal put in this video its not the injectors for sure
@chrisgarcia54622 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound like engine knock. It's cylinder scuff noise. GMC SIERRA & SILVERADO are far worse with lifter and tools engine falier.
@slowsleeper5503 жыл бұрын
The knock in my 17 Armada is slightly quieter than that, how hard did you have to fight the dealer to get the shortblock replaced?
@swipemagnetron3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I had to take it to two dealers. The second dealer was better. I printed the TSB out and took it to the service department on the second time. The knock on my engine was quieter when the engine was warm so they kept it overnight so they could listen to it in the morning on cold start. That's what did it. The techs lining up service appointments I don't think were full mechanics and couldn't hear the subtle knock that I could hear on a warm engine. So definitely push to have a mechanic whose done engine swaps listen to the engine on a cold start if you need to. Good Luck.
@slowsleeper5503 жыл бұрын
@@swipemagnetron yea that’s what I’m worried about, will definitely print the TSB like you did when the time comes. My Armada is about to crack 70k miles so will be interesting how they fight it.

@@nessavannessa Yes, I had the shortblock replaced about a year ago now. I had the extended warranty on it so it was all covered under that. The dealership I went thru was familiar with the issue and they even had a couple of short blocks in stock so took about a week if not sooner?

I have a Titan and have never known mine to not knock since it started 2 years ago. I have had it in 5 times over 2 years as it keeps getting worse. Cold, warm - it doesn't matter. "Nothing wrong, it sounds just like a new one" is what they keeps saying. The first NTSB came out right about the time it started. I referred them to the NTSBs each time even. I make sure they keep noting it on the service record. I have my own videos now. It is knocking worse than my old Chevy with 250k miles and I don't even have 29k on it yet (working from home). I haven't worried about it since I have warranty left. I am going in first full week of June and I'm not leaving until this is settled as I need to start driving and frankly it is embarrassing. I am going to skip the service manager and be talking to the general manager this time. There was a Nissan Mechanic on one of the forums that said he had replaced 18 short blocks personally and his post was in 2020. Apparently they had a batch of bad blocks. It kind of makes sense because I keep smelling coolant too and they can't seem to find that issue either.

I remember ours sounding like a diesel when we were in the DQ drive through. That sound was embarrassing for sure. I had to try a second dealer also. Hopefully you can get them to scope the cylinder for scoring and have them sort it out for you.
