My wife and I appreciated this video! When her 2018 Civic was hit and totaled recently (she was pregnant at the time), it accelerated our plans to get an SUV. Being that I’ve daily-driven a 2007 Tacoma V6 for 14 years, and have learned to do the maintenance (what little there is to do), and the fact that we like reliable, tough, simple vehicles, we decided to buy a 2021 base model 4Runner with a 3rd row seat. Fast forward a few months, our son is 8 months old, and the wife is pregnant again (they’ll be 13 mos apart). We’ve wondered if the 4Runner will be big enough, and something like this or the Sequoia has crossed our minds. Why not a minivan, you ask? We don’t like FWD, for many reasons (not as durable, bad engine access for maintenance, etc). And, my wife just doesn’t like minivans or crossovers (I don’t either). This is appealing over a Sequoia because it’s much cheaper, and looks better to us. Plus, it’s much faster. I doubt these are flying off showroom floors right now, and even in this inflated market, might be able to get into a base 2WD for low to mid 40s. The only thing that might give me pause is that I’ve heard some forum rumors of engine problems on this new generation of GDI Nissan V8s.

When you reviewed the older platformed GX460 you found lots of good to say about "old school" SUVs and were gushing about how in many ways they are still desirable. Yet with the Armada, which incidentally costs about the same or less as a GX460, yet has a much bigger+badder motor, better sightlines, more room, better headlights etc etc etc..simply a class higher... it's just all talk about how its "old"... never mind that its a Y62 one of the most famous worldwide Landcruiser competitors and a newer platform than the GX460.. Any way you look at the Armada its either a Landcruiser competitor at 60% the price, or lots more capability than a GX460, at same same price. And did not get released in the early 2000s but its a Y62, which got released as a 2011-2013 depending on the market and has just been refreshed. If it was a Sequoia reviewers would be gushing about the "significant updates" even if it was just a facelift. The younger guy especially was criticizing things I believe he would have overlooked or even praised in a Sequoia or landcruiser or GX460 Also a mid-nite edition SL is not a "poverty trim" another incident about twisting a postive, ie Value and/or affordability, into a negative. In the middle East and Australia they are going toe-to-toe with the Landcruiser and deservedly so. This vehicle deserved the friendly and respectful review that the GX460 got (especially since its more truck at same price in every way) PS: No I dont own one, though I wish I did, I just notice how reviewers change the tenor of a review based on biases. PS2: Check out the australian reviews gushing about this SUV. PS3: As for this "old" engine. it is a 32 valve VVT, engine, closed deck, 6 bolt mains, titanium valves, forged pistons/rods/crankshaft. I own a vehicle with pre DI version of this engine the VK56de and at 173,000 HARD miles with hard towing and lots of city miles still has perfect compression in every cylinder and burns not a drop of oil. Show me a mercedes AMG or Chevy that can do that! Even the Toyota V8s will burn oil at this point. PS4: In australia where they KNOW hard SUVs its a best seller! www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/move-over-toyota-landcruiser-300-series-2022-nissan-patrol-y62-smashes-sales-record-with

I am finally getting one of these it looks like. They make an "S" trim with fewer bells and whistles again (not something reviewers would be interested in) and the end of year incentives are crazy. The MSRP is only 55k to begin with and the end of year incentives are huge this year (supposedly an update is coming). It may never be this affordable again to buy a Nissan patrol new (albeit a decontended one). The "S" I am looking at still has LED headlights, 360 degree camera though. But the stereo is only 4 speaker, the rear view mirror is manual, the outside mirrors are still heated. Exactly the simple but incredible sturdy, high mechanical content lifetime durability SUV one would want. And I am paying less than a new Pathfinder or 4Runner, for brand new full size V8 body-on-frame goodness.!! 🥰
@this-is-big-john Жыл бұрын
All these reviewers complaining about how "old school" it is. Thats exactly why I want it! Thats exactly why anybody would buy one of these, an older toyota sequoia, or gx460. I work for a rental company so rarely a day goes by where I don't do at least an oil change on an Armada and I have to say, it's consistent if anything. I do think the price tag is a bit high for what you're getting but you can't really go wrong with a J-VIN Nissan. Also, that was some seriously infectious laughter during the spin-out bit, thanks for that (Snake?? Snaaaaaaaaaake!)

One thing of important note on the seats. They may not have fancy leather or cloth, but since they are actually perforated, they won't burn you and stay hot like most modern seats will.

I was thinking of getting the Armada, but I settled for a GX460 instead.

@scott82383 жыл бұрын
@@shawn_hu you settled wisely as the QX80/Armada is the Patrol over seas and a much better vehicle than the GX460.

Perfect complement truck to any S2000 owners. Both are archaic, both can put a huge smile on your face, and both can be game over with over aggressive throttle inputs.

I got one of these in the 4WD version as a rental from Enterprise a couple weeks ago and other than the back seat that smelled like dog puke (with only 10k miles on it mind you) I couldn't find anything I hated about it (well, and also the seats, I wasn't a fan either). Powertrain is great, AC was great, handling was very good for a large truck. It was composed enough flooring it from a dead stop in a turn with the 4WD. Gas mileage was obviously bad, but not as bad as I expected, about 17-18 highway. LOVE the sound of that V8.

Yep old, but vvel is pretty advanced! And a bit more reliable than BMW double vanos. I think these things are direct injected too, although that is not exactly a plus. Love the honesty and unbiased nature of the videos.

This has been out since 2010 globally, and is the third update. Much better effort than the Toyota Sequoia. These sell like hot cakes in the Middle East. In the market I'm in it's got the highest resale value of any used car.

Love my Armada! Best bang for your buck and with a 4x4 there are very few places I can’t drive through. Interior space is more than enough for a family including Dogs. The infotainment system works great and with Apple/Android play you honestly need nothing else. I can see view my work calendar for the day as I’m dropping the kids off for school and if I need to take a meeting from the car, no problem!

Armada. I drove mine to Woodstock, in the day, man. Good then good now. [Inhales deeply, holds, exhales smoke in the direction of the futon where Susie is sitting cross-legged, tie dye dress riding on her thighs. Switches on the Sony 8-track and plays Inna Gadda Miata. Susie’s looking good since her front at rear bumpers were updated this year].

Last time I checked, aluminum corrodes unless protective coatings are used..just like steel..in many cases, worse than steel..Aircraft runways are NEVER salted etc. for that reason. The under body coverings are not proven to reduce corrosion and in fact may trap corrosive substances above them and not allow flushing that occurs in a car wash or a heavy rain.

This SUV sells like corolla in the middle east, this and the land cruiser are the off road kings over there and is also famous in Australia and Africa, I guess over there people prefer the basics than all the gimicky SUVs available in North America.

Surprised how decent it is. The powertrain should actually be fairly good, as the main issues with Nissan automatics all lie in the CVT realm. The 5 and 7 speeds of the past were always decent. Nissan also typically makes a good naturally aspirated engine. (Looking at you VQ) Thanks for sharing.
