Bought one brand new in 1981 exactly like yours. Took it to Germany in 1982, ran it on the autobahn, brought it back in 1985 and traded it in Washington State in 1986. I remember it had 8 spark plugs for that upright 4-cylinder. Was a good running rear wheel driver.

My dad had this beautiful car that never broke down or had any problems with it...till this day he regrets my mom bugging him to get rid of it because it was an older model...i was 13 when he ended up selling it:( TILL THIS DAY HE REGRETS SELLING IT ...surely misses his first truly reliable car. I really want to come across one and buy it just to surprise him.

My first new car. A powder blue 1980, I bought it not knowing how to drive a standard. I learned fast and was overjoyed by its fuel injection (also a first). Loved it so much that I dream about it to this day. (I park it and then can’t find later!!??)

First brand new car I ever bought was a 1982 200SX. Brown with the light brown interior. I bought it stripped with just A.C. I put my own radio in. Paid $7,650 for it. At the time the interest rate was 17.5% on new cars!!! Payment was $183.50. Don't ask why I remember details like that. I just do. Drove off the lot after never having driven a stick before. That was an interesting ride home. Dealer was like 60 miles from my house. Sold it in 1987 with 140,000 miles on it. Never did anything but oil and filter, and 1 set of tires. Never spent another dollar on it. I saw the car again 4 years later. Parked next to it at a mall. I remembered the guy saying he worked at a shoe store. I went in and found him. Car was now over 200,000 miles and he said he put a battery and a set of tires.... but that's it. Loved that car. Would love to find one locally, even just to go for a drive.

Beautiful car. This was the first car I ever bought on my own. Back in '85 for 3200 dollars. Great car with lots of features. The only thing that was troublesome was keeping the power antenna working! I learned how to replace a clutch plate on this car and do a head gasket job! I live in the Northeast, so rust ended up killing the car. It was still running the day the guy came and towed it away. Sad day.

This Datsun , same color but a 1983 2.2L auto was my first car. She spoke when ya opened the door too. I loved it! How it handled, the power to weight ratio and mpg made it a great first car.

I had this same car, color and year in high school and college. I owned it from 1992-1999. I got into a bad wreck and wound up selling it for $250..Great memories!

Nice, what a beauty. My dad had almost that exact model, but an '80. Same paint job, interior color (but my dad's had the checkerboard fabric mentioned in another comment below), everything down to the hood scoops. I loved riding in that car growing up. So much fun. That dinging sound when you open the door brings back a lot of memories. That's one car I would like to own some day, but they are soooooo rare to find.

This one is identical to the one I bought used in 1985 when I re-enlisted at Ft. Riley Kansas. It was a great little car, I ran it all over Kansas and took it with me when I was transferred to Germany. Ran it like a crazy man on the Autobahn for 3 years and then sold it to a guy in my unit when I rotated back to the states. It really was a great little car.

I bought this exact car used in ‘84 as my first car. With the 2.2l engine, this was a hoot to drive. In winter, I had to put 250lbs of rocks in a duffle bag in the truck to help with traction. Sadly, it was totaled when a flat bed truck lost its brakes and backed up into my parked car; took the entire windshield and roof clean off just above to body. I still miss that car.

lowtempo711 mine is an 83, white and automatic. I know most will hate on the automatic and I most certainly can drive a stick, but I digress. Bottom line, it's never let me down, it's taken me up and down the east coast without a problem. Maintain it, keep the undercarriage treated to keep the salt and rust away and it will always bring you home.
@IncogNito-gg6uh2 жыл бұрын
We bought a 200SX after a couple of months on the waiting list for a 510. We thought the front buckets were uncomfortable. With the automatic the engine was sluggish. We had ignition problems the dealership could never sort out. One good thing, when I got rear-ended at a stop light the seat back collapsed. It left me staring up at the roof liner, but probably saved me from serious whiplash! :D

Looks identical to the brochure car for 81 as I recall.Always liked the look of the notchback coupe instead of the hatch.Also looks cool with those alloys and 2 tone paint.

I had a 1982, different bumpers (body color and black, very kewl) that I modded with Mikuni sidedraft carburetors, lowered suspension, black-out trim, etc... but never did get rid of the lady that kept telling me my door was a "jar" lol
@magic25067 жыл бұрын
I had it the first year they changed the lines in 1980. Really turned heads at the time. Handled extremely well on dry ground. On wet ground or snow, you would have to be real careful. In the rain, it lost traction if you turned to hard or had to stop quickly. In the snow it had no traction unless you added about 300 lbs of sandbags to the trunk.

I had a white 81 with a 5 speed. They made a kit to make the small plugs fire with the main ones. It was about 50 bucks and about 30 hp. That car would hit 55 in 2nd gear! Couldn't find body parts anymore especially tail lights. Traded it straight across for a Buick regal. I hated that Buick turd!

That's not the original interior fabric though right? I recall my father's having a small checkerboard like pattern.
@Slightlyevil6 жыл бұрын
It was original aside from the tops of the back seat which had been replaced due to sun damage. The checker fabric was probably just an option.
