Found out that I replaced wrong cat so I went and bought the passenger and just finished it. I loaded up your video to show the guy at O’Reilly he is an idiot for telling me driver side and stubbled upon the holy passenger heat shield in your video. When I saw you cutting it was when I got stuck trying to take it out. I didn’t have shears, took me two hours to wedge, pry, beat and cuss at to get out. The rest was easy as driver side. @eminiscalperpro97292 жыл бұрын
@@AGuyandHisProjects mine is an 05 xterra. on one end of the studs, the end the nut screws on to, is what looks like that of a torx bit head, it's 10mm. I recently had an exhaust leak at the flange between the front converter(the one you changed) and the rear converter. I wanted to change the O-ring gasket, but the previous owner had welded in aftermarket converters, so the rear flange, where I would normally unbolt the rear converter, so that I could move it back enough to get passed the studs to drop it down and get to the gasket, was not there, it was all welded together. I put the 10mm socket on my battery impact and popped the studs right out, allowing me to drop the rear converter enough to get the gasket in. if not I was going to have a tuff time dealing with it. Did you leave the exhaust manifold without any heat shield and did you have any issue with that? Good Job, can you put the part numbers or links to the different exhaust gaskets? Also, was the new hardware you bought grade 8 metric or standard? And 1 suggestion; when you torqued your lugnuts, you should always use a criss cross pattern to spread the load I was always taught YMMV! ;-)

Yes there are two sensors. Four, actually, two in front cats and two in back cats. As you can see there is not real big to get there to sensors, it's like 20% of work, so I'll recommend don't replace thing if it works well. Just unscrew it in 2-3 stage, first when you turn it one time - if it goes easy, go ahead. If it stuck really hard as in this video, don't rush, use thread oil to spill it in between sensor and cat.conv., wait extra 20 minutes and continue.

@@JG-no4qr there are various ones out there, I'd be shy of a wooden one. I have a 6 inch tall 4 in wide cylindrical one I use as a spacer. Found that in a junkyard. I have a rubber one I bought that goes around the pinch weld. Pretty sure I got it from Amazon but that was a hot minute ago

@@glassimageproduction I am getting ready to do my 05 Xterra. Did you have issue with heat shield? Were you able to get it off and back on? Thanks
@glassimageproduction3 жыл бұрын
@@jennifersaylors3952 Yeah, the bolt heads holding the heat shields in had broken off on both sides when I tried to remove them to gain access to the cat bolts. The heat shields came loose at least, but I had to tap new threads into the exhaust manifolds after the loose heat shields starting rattling while driving. Personally, I wouldn’t rip out the heat shield with tin snips like this guy did. I imagine Nissan put the shields in there for a reason.

What was the cause of you having to replace the Cat? Bad 02 sensor or any other issue?
@AGuyandHisProjects5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. When your cat drop below something like 95% efficient it will trigger a check engine light. I have emissions control where I live so didn't have a choice but to fix it. Some will tell you to replace the o2 sensor and it will erase the code, however that I have found to only be a temporary fix.

The heat shield is not all that important you say! I really hope you stick to only working on your own vehicles and nobody else’s! Only someone with a lack of knowledge would say something stupid like that, I guess Nissan just put it there for looks!

Thanks for watching! I am not a mechanic nor have I claimed to be. I have experienced zero negligible side effects.
@benladin6263 жыл бұрын
In this case it's not important. I replaced mine with an after market one and trust once the bolt snaps off the heat shield there is nothing you can do about it except but a new exhaust manifold which cost alot. So I left mine out and everything is fine. I've been running with out a heat shield for years and everything is OK. Look at performance headers there's no heat shield when you install it. So you'll be ok

@@AGuyandHisProjects No worries bruh. IF you were to experience excessive heat around any wires or hoses, just wrap the wires and hoses with heat wrap tape and done!
