The LFA was in the top class! last year they were somehow slower, comparable to the cup. This year they were really fast! not as much as the top cars but not that far either! They had a very good race indeed.

These are 2 full on racing cars! Both derived from street but definitely racing cars. The images you see are recorded during a 24h race. This is endurance racing! The GTR competes in the SP8-T class and our car in SP7, according to the ADAC 24h regulation.

Yes i was also surprised at how the GTR was marginally quicker on the straight. Most likely running higher boost than standard? Anyway great driving from both parties in one of the best racing events in the world! Enjoyed the clip from start to end, thank you.

Incredible video. I watched ever second of the 19.04 vid. I did notice towards the end, the sound and video got out of sync a bit with sound being about .75/second ahead of the video. Nonetheless I loved this vid.

Great duel. Still amazed about the GTR though, I believe it's not far off from standard production form in the race so it's around 300kg heavier than the GT3, so for a car that heavy to keep in front is just astonishing!

you can find the final position on the 24h official site. Porsche came 21st overall. GT-R only 70th or 80th. I guess they had some issues. I can tell you that the GT-R drivers were really nailing it every corner, pushing as hard as they could. On the other hand we did try to preserve the car as much as possible! No curbs, no high revs, no extras gear shifts and easy on the braking. Ir you have no issues you save more time than lapping 5/10 seconds faster... that explains the result.

My old track R34 GTR that was heavily modified used to keep up with Porsche cup cars and it was street registered, but only for a class bracket I was running in, but I love the pedigree of the Porsche, simply beautiful cars. Thank you for the Video, great stuff !!!

consider that both cars have the same displacement, but the GTR has his filled by two turbos. Wondering about the suspension parts, I once heard 'Ring race teams prefer switching to tubular steel parts, as those tend to bent, not break like normal cast parts during hard impacts.

GT-R has All wheel Drive (a plus) but a heavy car, the Gt3 is a race car. Is the Gt-R a a modified street street car or a purpose built racer? Many contributing factors.

The LFA is in the SP8 class and runs detuned as per class rules 491 hp and weighs 1450 kg.But does have professional drivers though. Any way great vid and you and the GTR run very well.

Roll cages are mandatory in any racing car. Stock or not. What they mean on the GT-R is that it was not highly tuned as many other cars out there. The porsche is stock as well but is not derived from the series model. The GT3 Cup version is born as a one class racer.

GT-R is incredibly fast in the highspeed sections. Though it looks like you could've attacked him under braking at some points. But I don't know what the circumstances were like of course. Your tires, his tires. Video ends with a pitstop as well, maybe it was time for a driver change. It's hard to make a full attack after a long time behind the wheel... anyway, well driven by both! Good movie, good job!

LFA destroyed both the GTR and GT3 Cup without even trying hard. Gazoo LFA is amazing! A well deserved overall 15th place for the Gazoo LFA.

Superb both cars have strong and weak points at different section of the track. Gotta give it the Nissan guys for first try with new car prepped for this. No prior data. no sharing notes... Can't wait to see them back in next year this time with a proper GT3 spec car. instead of the more production based entry in 2012.

Maybe is my english...! kers as the electric assistance for the car. kerbs as the race track extensions found on the side of turns and in the middle. The second one is what I was referring to. By the wa there was a hybrid car! the P4/5 Competizione... very good looking!

The GT-R was in SP8 T class. The weight for SP8T is 1300 kg. Our car was only 50kg lighter according to the specific rules of each class. I do no know what specs they were driving but it makes no sense to enter a racing class with 400kg more than you should have! If you begin the race by being uncompetitive why bother racing at all? Don't forget that this is not a street car... it's a proper racing machine with professional drivers inside!

It really depends on the car / category one wants to compete in. I would say from 7-8k EUR upwards per pilot.

I am not sure what the difference is. What I can tell you is that the regulations give a minimum weight of 1250kg for the Porsche and 1300 for the SP8T class, the class where the GTR was racing.

Hi, the car was intentionally set up for an easy drive. No high revs, no hard braking, no curbs and far from reaching the limits. It’s a 24h, time is gained marginally on track. Where we gained massively is by reducing stops for maintenance and brake pad changes. We finished 21st the Nissan arrived few laps and many places back. They drove to the limit all the time and were also in a slower category

I was instructed by the team... no Full Gas in the foxhole, Scwedenkreuz and Antonius buche :(... No kerbs, no red lights... No downshifting with high revs, easy on the brakes. If it's the beast unleashed you want to see than you need to watch this VLN Lauf 5 11 June 2011 :)))

I'm not sure about the weight as they are racing in SP6T class. That is definitely NOT standard! we had standarg GTRs before in VLN and they are far slower than this one! What I found incredible is that he could pull away on the Dottinger Hohe straight... The cup Porsche is one of the fastest cars in straight. being in his slipstream and seeing him pulling away was... frustrating. Ont he toher hand we were not using kerbs and full engine revs to "save the car".

and to add i do not feel the need to insult other car manufacturers or the cars or the drives or where they come from. The RIng is one hell of a track tight corners high speeds and a true test of what a vehicle is made of. so my hat is off to the GTR guys and the other guys who build these race cars to make them hold up to 24 hrs worth of pure abuse

I know, I know also the drivers and the car very well. This is a standard Nissan GT-R Track edition with just other brakes and a Wing plus cage, Slicks and some cooling tweaks. It would be a dream if the car would just have 1300kg .. but that's not possible to reduce so much weight from a 1750kg car :-( They driving anyway alone in the class so there is no competitor anyway ;-)

again its a Porsche GT3 CUP car so its a full on race car, the GTR on the other hand was a street version with stock suspension and engine...it kept up b/c the racecar is obviously lighter..with shorter gears then stock

Porsche is sequential (just pull to upshift, and use the clutch to down shift while you push the lever) I can tell you that by the end of the race my arm and hand where really acking!

this GTR has nothing to do with the streetcar! i was there and the interior room was completely empty, only a sheet and a half dashboard are inside (like the gt3 cup) also marcolon windows was installed and many many other modification! the same care (also driven at the 24hours) you can buy at the german mobile site ~200.000€

All cars in this race are using racing steel disks as far as I konw. The porsche has steel disks and "endless" brake pads.

I did not state the porsche has KERS!!!! The Hybrid Porsche did not participate to the 2012 24h. And even if they did I would not ba allower anywhere near it!!! Our car is a standard 997 GT3 CUP car, the same that takes part to the Porsche Carrera Cup.

It seems the only place the GTR has a slight advantage is on the straights. As soon as a few curves come along, the 911 is right on his butt again. The GTR reminds me of American muscle cars...better in a straight line due to HP. A GT3 Cup car has 450 HP to a GTR's over 500 HP. Not bad, Porsche!

Why "R.I.P Logic"? The GT-R entered in the 2012 N24 was not a stock road-legal car. It was a 2012 GT-R with track package (brakes, suspension, carbon body panels, aero, removed rear seats) plus roll cage, race-spec fuel tank, centre-lock wheels and slick tyres. All that plus the stock powertrain (more power than the regulation-restricted actual race cars racing there) plus all-wheel drive (not allowed for the race-cars) make it a very fast and impressive car around the track especially in adverse conditions like here, but it's not a stock street car.

The Porsche is an actual race car, built only for that. The GT-R is a modified road car. It did quite well considering the difference.
