I've been looking forward to this since Björn first announced it. Pain is best when experienced by someone else! (I'm running a Nissan E-NV200 24 kWh as daily child hauling device now for the seventh year - so this would be like trying to do 1000 km with that piece.)

And thus the legend of TB was Bjorn. Some say he is still out there, Rolling it down a hill at Ikea to find a high voltage charger.

My 24kw Leaf will be 10 years old in November and lost one cell so far, so I have 11 cells remaining. I still get up to 90 miles charge in the summer but goes down to 75 miles in the winter. 90% of my car journeys are still done in the Leaf. Thanks for the test Bjørn, you are a very patient man and a great video.

Since the classic ioniq electric was released in 2016, I would love to see a 1000km challenge with a 10 year old Ioniq.
@AsekiBekovy
@AsekiBekovy Жыл бұрын
I think the luxury battery chemistry of the 28kWh Ioniq and the relatively high charging power make it quite a boring challenge. It's not extremely quick, but also very acceptable...
@SICHTKRAFT
@SICHTKRAFT Жыл бұрын
Björn already did a 1000km challenge with the classic ioniq. The thermal management is good enough that an ioniq with 50% battery degradation would require more stops but not significantly more time if the chargers are available to match the shorter stints. Not at all comparable and by far less interesting compared to an old Leaf with the famously bad thermal system.

Already done, 11:55. Surprisingly good because of good efficiency and reasonable charging speed. We road trip ours pretty comfortably; 1.5-2h driving, 20 min stop and repeat.

Didnt expect Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi to cameo in Bjorn's video 😅 10:37 The song literally means "Man is a traveller". That's a song from a 70's Bollywood movie. Looks like the previous owner has great taste in classical hindi songs 😀

it is normal for any car to have hotter brakes in the front as the braking split is usually done more towards front, back are just catching up + due to inertia, front wheels need to brake harder.

Amazing video. I drove home from Liverpool the other night. Arrived at M40 Beaconsfield Ionity turn off with 7% SOC with off ramp closed for overnight maintenance. Had to beg the construction staff to move the barrier and let me get to the charger which they kindly did!

first mistake with old leaf, mine heats up more then i go deep into low SOC and less when i stay above 30% or so, then again that would be way too many charging stops. But on my very long trips I do stop every 50 kms

We have 2 Nissan Leaf's a 2011 that has done 72k miles (115,872 km) and a 2015 that has done 71.5k miles. The older one is used for local runs and 40 mile commutes to work, and its been doing that for us for the last 6 years. The 2015 which has bidirectional charging not does the long runs in the summer months, but also runs our heating system ASHP in the winter months. The car although 15 year old design has been amazing for us saving us thousands of pounds on energy costs. Best investment yet!! It maybe an old design but its ongevity has proven its design and build qualities.

What next? Dacia Spring? :D Funny episode. I am wondering if it would not be faster if you were driving ~80 or even ~70km/h fewer stops (lower no. of detours, connecting/disconecting) and more time for the battery to cool down? Anyway, I am waiting for part 2 and 3 I guess :)

Coming from someone who owns a Renault Zoe with 22kW AC charging, I can guarantee you that driving at 70km/h would not be faster. And almost certainly not 80km/h either. Maybe 85 km/h though.
@broderwow
@broderwow Жыл бұрын
@swecreations when I watched this I remembered the leaf 2 test Bjorn did in Thailand and he was actually faster by going much slower because of lower consumption and because he was able to keep the battery at lower temp.

EV Driving Masterclass... what an Epic test 💪💪💪 And agree with @Lufthansa787... A comparison to the similar age Zoe Q210 with 43 kw AC load would be great. I guess it would be a lot quicker. Less degradation, more consistent charging. You can use mine... but 1700 km away from Oslo... so can´t drive it there for you for a 1000 km Test 😂

It should be possible to upgrade the very old Nissan Leaf to more modern better larger battery pack to improve range. Maybe even possible to replace and upgrade charging electronics to more modern systems for higher charging speeds. There are a lot of companies in Europe who specialise in rebuilding old cars whit fossil engine system to electric vehicles. The upgrade whit larger battery pack should be quite easy to do. Rebuilding electrical systems for high speed 100+ Kw/h charging speed is a more advanced project to realise. Video series whit upgrading the very cheap and old Nissan Leaf would be perfect video content 😇👍. The big question is it more cheap to upgrade a old electric car to modern standards then buying a newer model whit better specs . Small upgrade to 20-30 Kw/h battery pack would drastically improve range to 200-km which for a small efficient city car is acceptable. upgrading a old electrical car for better specs is more sustainable than buying new and makes a lot of sense if buyers can save money on buying re used upgraded electric cars.

I've been looking for a Type 2 to euro connector adapter so i can connect a normal mains distribution block to 4x 250W mains chargers so I can use a charging station to charge my ebike at 1kW. Ones I've seen on aliexpress don't put any voltages on the control pins, so probably won't work. Anyone any experience with these?

The adapter does not need to put volts onto CP or PP pins....just a resistor between CP and Earth.

The original Ioniq could charge with more than 60 kW and it had only a 28 kWh battery, so you could top it up quite quickly. With the later 38 kWh Ioniq charging was around 40 kW max (because of lower pack voltage) which was a dealbreaker for me.
