We bought the 40Kwh six months ago as our first EV. We moved from a couple of Qashqais previously and my wife loves the familiarity of the Nissan. We charge at home and rarely do any thing more than 30 miles so it's perfect for us. Nice to see some competition coming through for our next update in a couple of years. My biggest concern is the CHADEMO.. Nissan should be looking to sell an adapter for CCS if they want people to buy this car in the used market. The highlights for me are being able to warm the car up and defrost it from my bed and running a car for 2p per mile. Finally, we've been getting over 5 miles per kilowatt Strangely, when we use the e-pedal that drops below the magical five. Still loving it though.

Recently bought a 161 in highest spec with original 24kwh as second car for local trips only. Have a 58kWh Ioniq5 for long distance. Leaf is perfect for this use case in my opinion. Especially when you compare it to ICE alternatives at the same price it’s a no brainer from a spec, size and running costs perspective.
@MrBucko1990 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t touch a new one though. Nissan need to take the same approach as say VW and discount heavily. A new E-Up with 32kwh battery can be got for under €18k at the moment. It’s RRP was nearly €30k 🤯
@decimal1815 Жыл бұрын
Winter range on the "40kWh" Leaf is quite uncompetitive now. The usable range on the 40 is 36kWh. Assuming that you only want to use 90% of that battery (nobody wants to see the turtle mode while driving on the highway..) and you will likely only get 3 miles / kWh in cold and wet conditions = usable range of just 97 miles. If you factor-in some battery degradation after a couple of years, that will go down by another 10 miles. As a fair weather commuter EV for short journeys, it's fine. But for longer journeys, it's not really viable.
@-cc9ye9 ай бұрын
Exactly right, and if you're leaving a bit in reserve in case the charger you're heading for doesn't work, then you're down to about 75-80 mile hops which isn't great. And then there's the very slow charging and overheating to contend with. It really isn't suitable for longer trips (the 40).
@christinemurray1444Ай бұрын
No EV is good for longer journeys. A beater diesel from 2005 will wipe the floor with the highest spec 2024 EV on a long journey.
@decimal1815Ай бұрын
@@christinemurray1444 yes, but diesel cars are being phased out, so it's good that longer range EVs are becoming available. It's not difficult to charge up with a modern EV. Everybody needs to stop after about 200 miles, or should do anyway.

Bought the 40KWh new in 2021, loved it but traded it in for an ID4 in August. Chademo was my main concern as I was going to keep the car long term. I would recommend the Leaf to anyone but you need to know that the range is really about 200kms in mixed driving and 250+ in just city driving. I am glad I changed to the ID4 but it was nearly twice the price.

Just bought a new Leaf 40kwh, and even though I live in Indonesia (which is considerably hotter in terms of weather) I do get around the same numbers on the kwh/100km! Though I feel like a bit of a knob, buying a Japanese import Leaf over a locally assembled Ioniq5 base model standard range that's only 2500 euro more expensive. Then again the Ioniq5 is a bit too wide for our roads, and the base model didn't came with 360 camera so it's going to be a bit of a hassle navigating it on tight roads. Overall, its our family's second car and the range is enough for us to putter around town. Most charging points here are AC, so I can still charge almost anywhere I go but not as quick obviously.
@connclissmann6514 Жыл бұрын
You could buy it today but could you trade in or sell one in 3 or 5 years time, for a decent price? I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Big battery over 40k? Tesla's inventory online today has a well configured Model Y for 45.5k. Thanks for the review. What are Nissan thinking?

I have the 40kWh SVE in the 2022 facelift. Love it, excellent urban car, but since recently moving over 200km outside of Dublin and needing to do that round trip every few weeks, the range is well below my needs now. This wasn't the case when I bought it, just had a lot unexpected changes in the last year. Originally I was planning to buy it out when the PCP is up, hoping for a good trade value or sell it privately, but they've depreciated massively this year and I don't see that being worth trying anymore - by 2025 it might be extremely hard to sell with CHAdeMO and uncompetitive range vs alternatives, so maybe handing the keys back will be the best thing.

In winter in minus temperatures, doing just some short journeys around 2-5 miles, your efficiency will drop to around 2 mil/kw or sometimes even less. It’s not the value it once was, and I’d probably opt now to go with CCS and a bit faster charging. All I can say particularly as I do live in the North that it'd be a definite no for this one based on the older charging tech and the price alone not to mention insurance costs. My brother who lives across the water uses these cars occasionally in work but in his case they're work vehicles and so the company has charging for them negating the poor infrastructure for chademo. The price for these will I do agree have to come down if for no other reason than there's a new one on the way and as is the case with alot of newer cars it's going to be an SUV, not sure when it's being released but as and when it's announced given the older tech that the current Leaf has I'd expect the current model to come down after that.
