Nissan Maxima: Has a knocking noise at startup

Some people think the red oil light is when you need to check the oil. 😢. Engine doesn't sound very nice.

My sister in law asked me what does this gravy boat on my dash mean?? I was like wtf are you talking about. I go look at it. It's the freaking oil light. Chev hhr 3 and a half quarts low. I said keep that up and your guaranteed to ruin the engine. Just a matter of time. I know her

Oh my goodness 😔I have an 03 and a 2009 Maxima and both burn oil but something about the 03 where the more you drive it, the more oil you must add! And even though not as bad, the 09 needs about half a quart every 500 to 1,000 miles or so. You must definitely, without the shadow of a doubt, keep an eye on the oil level on the vq 3.5 or else 😵🤯

I'm surprised the Check Engine light wasn't on....coworker of mine had an Infiniti with a similar VQ V6 and higher miles...ran it low on oil and was getting a rattling sound and a check engine light....his mechanic pulled a code for the variable valve timing...wasn't getting enough pressure to function correctly due to the low oil level....needless to say, he was very vigilant about checking oil after that...the car was over 200K miles.

i go between 5000 to 6000. Then, I still check the fluids every fill up.

I change my oil in my Maxima every 3200 miles she’s got 152,000 miles on it still runs like a clock they don’t make these 3.5 like they used to

I ran my Maxima down to a QT was in it. Added three quarts to it then went n got a oil change. Added 1oz. Of seafoam in it and my car immediately started knocking. WHAT WHEN WRONG . I'VE HAD THE TIMMING REPLACED VERY RECENTLY. 166K
