@MrPatdeeee7 жыл бұрын
Hi Urban Adventures. I am pleased as punch that you now completely "rebuild" Nissan CVT's. Here is why: In the fall of 2007, I purchased a brand new 2007 Nissan Maxima with CVT, of course. I have had a terrible experience; in that the transmission from day ONE vibrates the entire car; at low speeds. The dealer, "Gwinnett Place Nissan" in Duluth, Ga; has told me repeatedly there is NO cure for that very "common" problem. So I hate it, but I deal with that, but I really do NOT believe them. Anyway: The car has only 30,000 miles on it and looks like a brand new car, believe it or not; and I am scared to death that my transmission is going to fail; and I will not be able to get mine repaired; without spending thousands of dollars for a rebuilt transmission, that may not work or at lest for very long . There is a 120,000 mile and/or a 10 yr warranty on my transmission. IN September the 10 yrs is up. Thus the 120K then is of NO use, since it was "120K or 10 yr's; which ever comes first". I hope that since your company will now rebuild them; that this means other dealers will rebuild AND/OR repair them also What are your thoughts? Also do you agree that there is NO cure for the vibration at slow speeds (up to 30 MPH); which MANY are complaining about on this model Nissan? Thanks

You can try to change the step motor. I have seen nissan murano with problems with the pulleys. The step motor is attached to something that follows the drive pulley up and down. If the pulley does not move up and down then the step motor will not do its job. I have seen problems like this.However, this involve taking the transmission out the vehicle and disassembling the transmission.

+chris123church Ha ha, we have one in the shop now. They is no best way, there is only one way, and that way is going to take you probably one day and a half because you are not familiar with the process. You are going to have to take things loose from the top. Then you are going to have to chain the motor then take loose things from the bottom. All of this is best shown on a video. However, the video will be long. I have not the time to do this yet.

You only have to take the transmission out. You will have to disconnect things from the top first. Then you will have to chain the motor so that it will not fall out when you remove the frame on the bottom.

Seems like good work is done here and the man knows his stuff. Is this a transmission repair shop business? If so where?
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
rkgsd Hello, yes this is a transmission shop. We are in Cleveland Ohio. As far as "knowing my stuff" , well, according to some of the warranty inspectors who come into the shop, not to many shops deal with the cvt transmission. However, I will get into any transmission that is made if it comes my way. Other shops will have to follow because cvts are not going anywhere! The only thing that we will have to start doing is protesting against the auto manufactures for keeping the parts so that aftermarket shops cannot repair these units. The parts not being available is the main issue that drives the price to repair high.
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
rkgsd Also, I may add, to the transmission rebuilding industry, cvt transmission are relatively new, more so here in America ,although not in Europe. As a result, problems that will make themselves known have yet to do so. Things like valve body issues have yet to be see. However, when they do, valves will have to be made to address the issues. Right now the only thing that we can do is change the whole valve body with a good used one, if we can find one. This leads to chasing used parts. Therefore, I guess that I am one of the few pioneers and pioneers who came into this country had to clear the land, in other words I expect to face hard-to-solve problems in the future!
@rkgsd9 жыл бұрын
questioning3 Thanks for the detailed reply.Well guess I'll have to pass on the 2016 Nissan Murano since CVT is the only choice. They can only hold on to it for so long. If they want to survive as a company, it has to go 3rd party repair eventually just like standard trannys. I can't wait until all the long time owners start showing up needing repairs only to find out the dealer has a lock on repairs. That's when the customer feedback will really start to hit them hard.
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
rkgsd To tell you the truth rkgsd, the car manufactures do not care and since the dealerships are an extension of them, the dealerships do not car also. What is going to have to happen is, people are going to have to stop buying vehicles with these transmission in them. When this happens on a large scale, then they will start to release parts. There are people who are suppose to fight for the aftermarket, I think ASA. However, they are not effective because they go to dinner with the enemy too much. I have a long battle but my goal is to touch as many people as I can about this problem, and help those who are already involved. Throw-away-vehicles is what the manufactures would like to have, and this is exactly what some are doing when part are not available.

2007 Nissan Murano S 3.5L AWD- Took a trip to Utah about a week ago and as soon as we were pulling back into the city we live in, I started hearing a clicking sound. The faster I went, as did the clicking sound. The next day, I decided to jack it up and get under it. I didn't notice anything wrong off underneath. At this point I assumed it was a CV axel. Get a little more than half way across town and my car felt like it was pulling to accelerate (almost like the timing belt/chain skipped a tooth) as I continue to my destination, I pull to a stop sign. As I push the accelerator pedal, I get nothing. I'm moving, but less than what Idle speed normally is. Shortly after, the check engine light comes on and reads code P0746. "Pressure line control solenoid A not functioning properly or stuck off." I cleared the code after the car had sat in the same position for over an hour. Turned it on and drove it to my destination (about 4 or 5 blocks away). Everything, but the clicking sound, was fine. Not slipping or anything noticeable relative to transmission problems. Drove the car a total of 12 blocks upon discovering the code and found that it was almost dry of transmission fluid. A friend of mine and I are going to replace the solenoid and change the transmission fluid and get it back to normal. Like I said the transmission doesn't feel like its done for. He said it should be okay once we replace the solenoid and get new fluid in it and fill it up. Would you agree?
@Jordo09234 жыл бұрын
With all of the research that I have done based upon symptoms of a bad line pressure solenoid, is having low fluid or dirty fluid, and the car may be stuck in neutral. Seems to be exactly what was happening and then BOOM, I get that code.
@thisisyourtransmission4 жыл бұрын
No, I would not agree. I don't wishful think. I try things and see what happens! So, you have your starting point. If it works then you know what it was. If it doesn't, then you know what it wasn't. If the transmission was low, then why do the solenoid need changing?

There are bearings in the transmission. There is a bearing kit that can be bought. However, the transmission has to come out of the vehicle and disassembled to change the bearings. At that point, might as well do the other modifications.

hillybillymitch this is a long shot, but I have heard that some have solved problems by changing filters on this transmission. there are two filters. there is one in the bottom of the pan but the one you really want to get to is a small canister type of filter in the side of the transmission. aside from trying this I have limited knowledge on this transmission when it has so many miles. if it was in my shop I would take it apart and look inside for damage. then I would go from there.

However, if it was here, I would disassemble it anyway. Look, there are a lot of transmissions made. However, you must realize this important fact, they are all similar in construction. Why, because the principle and physics of what makes a transmission a transmission. As a result, if you fix one, you will be able to fix the other. Just see what is similar when you tear it apart. Now, by this qashqai being a Nissan, it will probably not vary to much from how Nissan makes its cvts.

Dear sir, I have nissan murano (year 2006, 90000 miles), and some cvt problems. When the car is cold it works ok, but when you drive it for some time (especially uphill, when transmission gets a bit warmer) it starts to make problems, it doesn't shift gears and it seems to me like it will stop, but when you turn downhill, and the transmission gets colder it gets better, and when you let the car to cool him self completely, it works ok again. As I mostly drive car on short distances, I noticed this problem a few days ago when I went on a longer trip, but the problem maybe exists for a longer period of time. I changed transmission fluid, but the problem remains. Could it be some cooling issues? The car has been tested in official dealer shop and it shows that everything is ok. They said that problem is mechanical and they can only install completely new gearbox. Can I do something or new box is only option? I would be very grateful for any advice.
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
+SuperTiana85 I take things apart and look at them. The dealer does not do this. It is a waste of time to them. If I find something damaged, then I try to repair it. If you have no service engine light on, then diagnosis is difficult and time consuming. However, I would first have your exhaust system checked. A restricted exhaust can slow your vehicle down. If the exhaust is not the problem, and it is indeed the transmission, the only choices you have are the dealer or and aftermarket shop, if the aftermarket shop wants to take this project on. But remember, the parts are hard to get.

HOW COULD I TEST THE CVT THAT CAME OUT OF MY CAR , if it's good or bad with out installing it in a car? 2. do you think just because i switched a new transmission , i have to change a TCM?
@thisisyourtransmission7 жыл бұрын
First, the best test was in the vehicle. The transmission was changed and the problem was the same. The tcm was changed and the problem was fixed. Therefore, I would hypothesize that the transmission that came out of our vehicle originally was ok. Second, sometimes both have to be switched, depending on the situation. I had an audi that had a bad transmission. It had no reverse. After, changing the transmission, it had reverse but it would not shift. The tcm was bad. However, in this situation, the tcm went bad first and the customer kept driving in failsafe mode until the transmission went bad. In you case, I am not sure if yours was like this situation. This can only be determined by the one who fixes your vehicle. The only way to see if your previous transmission is working is to install it in a vehicle that has a good tcm. If it works, then it was ok.

@amcgee-dl3cj5 жыл бұрын
that description isn't really a part per se. its talking about a literal electrical circuit the system uses. it probably has an "open" or "short" and needs further investigation. what that code means is the car needs to be checked out further in that area to find the circuit problem to repair the circuit. unfortunately what that means is there isn't just some specific part to just buy and replace with a specific dollar amount to handle the problem. you have to have a qualified mechanic check it out further to even know what its going to take specifically to fix it.

Also Where are you located? How much would you charge to "rebuild" a transmission?
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
+chris123church I don't rebuild this transmission. I only repair it. Now, the reason I tell customers that I repair only is that I cannot get every part of this transmission new, new solenoids, reman valvebodies. If I could get everything new like I wanted to then I would call it a rebuilt unit. Right now, the aftermarket is trying to make some things available, however, they are still slow. As a result, I only repair to get the vehicle running again.

Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise - high pitched, whining noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end accident - quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car hit me from the back at around 40km/h... also i was on the full break as I just stopped - the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company questions this and suggesting wear and tear... is there any thing connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident? thanks m

That is hard to answer here. Noises need to be hear by the ear of a mechanic. It is best for you to take it to a shop the the mechanic can do a test drive. You may have to leave it for a day.

+Soran Mohammed First things first, do you have a check engine light on? If you do, then you need to have the vehicle scanned. There is no guessing with new vehicles there is testing. Therefore, you will not just be able to shop for parts for this transmission as you would others. I try to make this clear. Now question, how many miles are on your vehicle?
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
Wil C Not many have focused strictly on this transmission (or any cvts for that matter). Welcome, and join the adventure. I will not even began to lie to you and make you think that I am a master of this transmission. However, I am willing to share my experiences and problems and fixes that I have encountered along the way. With this transmission, there is going to be a lot of trial and errors. So, having said this, how would I approach this in the shop? Hmm, I know the code is a pressure code. Furthermore, I also know that problems with pressure that I have experienced have been internal with the pulleys, drums, and bearings, all around 155,000 miles. I have yet to experience one that had a solenoid or a valvebody problem like many other transmissions that I am working on. I guess the easy steps are trying a solenoid or a valvebody (if you can get one) but forever keeping it in the back of your mind that you may need to fix or replace the transmission itself.

I never thought much of the idea of a CVT in a vehicle as heavy and powerful as an automobile. They are fine in snowmobile but didn't think they would hold up in a car. Which has been the case. The manufacturers went to them because of cost to make. When they break the repair costs pretty much means the vehicle is scrap. Repair parts unavailable. This is planned obsolescence . Will never buy a car with a CVT.

I watched the video to the point that the CVT pulleys were removed. I was waiting to hear: "here is why the CVT failed" and point out severe wear of parts or failed belt, pulley seized on shaft etc. Was pump pressure tested? Was valve body tested? computer? As a casual viewer, I am trying to understand how you were absolutely certain it was the variable assembly as opposed to anything else.
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
+newjerseybt Ok, let me answer all of your questions. Then, I am going to tell you why I put this video on youtube. First, was pump pressure tested? No. Second, was valve body tested?,No. Third, was computer tested? No. Lastly, you were trying to understand how I was absolutely certain that it was the variable assembly as opposed to anything else. I was not certain. Now, why did I put this video on youtube. I put this video on youtube so that people (including you) can see how to disassemble this transmission. This transmission is new to a lot of rebuilders, some ( and I get this from Insurance/warranty companies) will not touch this transmission. Therefore, I am (and others like me who are not afraid to take this unit apart and make mistakes) a pioneer. As a result of being a pioneer, their are somethings that I will not know, like a lot of answers to your questions. As to the question of how I knew that the variators were the problem with this transmission, when I fixed the variators (only) the transmission worked, and it is still working right now. This is how I know that nothing else was the problem. Now as for me, I am not afraid to take a transmission out to disassemble it, even if it is ok. Therefore allow my pioneering spirit to pave a smooth path for you.

Bills automatic transmissions in Cleveland Ohio. Regarding cvts, these transmissions are relatively new in the market for rebuilders. Although they are simple to repair, the parts are not always available (on purpose by the manufactures) to repair them adequately to be called a rebuilt transmission. As a result, I only consider it a repair. Furthermore, I only repair those that have low mileage. We have yet to understand what wears on these units at very high mileage, I mean parts that are not easily seen (valvebodies) or easy to get (electronics-solenoids and stepper motors).

Nissan took a dump when Renault got involved. CVT's are only one of the many issues. I bet this Murano also suffers from oil consumption, had the timing chain tensioner issue, had cam and crankshaft sensors go bad, had the alternator go bad, motor mounts crap out, transfer case fail, and the engine subframe rust. Nissan makes some good looking cars, the problem is french management sourced junked-out parts from the lowest bidder and these cars become money pits as a result. STAY AWAY!! Carlos Ghson is the CEO of Renault who is now the CEO of Nissan. They will continue to produce junk until people wise up and stop buying junk.
@thisisyourtransmission9 жыл бұрын
+TruAgape1234 The longevity of the Nissan Murano cvt is not bad. It is the same as I see in other transmissions. The dealer for Chrysler, Honda, Caddilac, gives no more than 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on their new cars. If A cvt last for 100,000 to 150,000 miles, it has done its job. That is 8 to 12 years of service if one drives 12,000 miles a year. The BIG PROBLEM IS when it breaks, there are no new parts to get to fix it!!! This is by design to make it a throw away vehicle. For this reason, I tell people to not buy a vehicle with a cvt until the parts are there to fix it.
@Mabeylater2939 жыл бұрын
100,000-150,000 miles for a cvt is setting the bar low. Many Toyotas and older Maximas rack up over 200,000 miles on the same transmission. I expect a higher level of reliability, and thankfully their are manufactures that deliver on those higher expectations.

Quentyn73 Not true. Cvt is a good transmission if it is used within its ability. However, the manufactures are hogging all of the parts. This is what makes the situation bad. And because of the manufactures purposely hiding the parts, it is best to stay away from cvts. When people start doing this, they will stop their games.

Quentyn73"cvts will be gone soon". It Is best to live in the now then to speculate about an unknown future. Right now, we have a 2007 Nissan sentra in the shop that needs a transmission, and it is a cvt. So far manufactures are putting them in the later vehicles. So, it is best to be familiar with them and try to master them since they are here.

questioning3 There's no way to master a broken piece of metal. I learned than from "mastering" scooters which have the same exact principle. It reaches a point where you just have to replace everything - pulleys, belt, tension pulleys, bearings, etc. The design of a CVT is to work for no more than 120,000 miles. You can try to master it, it is your choice how you spend your time. I'm just saying that this entire gearbox needs replacing around that time or less. This is going to happen more and more often, and it will be easier to just scrap it all and put a new one right in. But not right now. Maybe after a decade of people like you who would try to master and salvage what's usable and left behind.

Quentyn73 Hmmm, I have seen a lot of cvt lasting 155,000 miles. The cvt although the same in principle as the scooter is not the same in complete design. Bearings are no different in the cvt as in any other transmission. Furthermore, a cvt is simple to fix! There is not many moving parts, clutches, planets, sungears, bands, etc to worry about. This is why the auto industry is keeping the parts hidden. If the parts were available and cheap, everyone would be on the road in no time. Chrysler's warranty is 35,000miles for a new vehicle, and a lot more manufactures have this low warranty. If a cvt will get 100,000 miles, they don't care how you feel. Therefore, master them and make them better.

questioning3 Lasting but at what cost? Servicing every 20,000, being driven on highways only. Nissan extended their warranty to 120,000 but who can say that a NYC tax has 155,000 miles on their cvt. Right now there are some running over 250 with a few trans oil changes and that's it.

Hi, I have a 2006 a S Nissan Murano and it only runs up to 35 miles and about 3.5 rpm and it doesn’t shift up. I took it to autozone to have it scanned but there are no codes and the check light isn’t on. What do you think the problem could be?

Most of the time, 98% of the time, the transmission is bad, if it has a CVT transmission. However, don't trust AutoZone scanner, take it to a transmission shop and have them do a diagnostic.

Hello I just bought an 09 murano. the car when I press on the has will not make the car go faster than 20 miles an hour at 3500 to 4000 rpm. So I quit driving it right away. I took it to auto zone and it came up with some codes. indicating Its the valve body. I was wondering is pressing on gas and getting no gear changing past first a symptom of a bad throttle body.

what were the codes?

questioning3 p1777 p0507 computer screen at auto zone said. suggest replacing valve body.
@thisisyourtransmission7 жыл бұрын
The p0507 has something to do with the engine. You probably need to have this checked at a quality mechanic shop. The p1777 is a code directed at the transmissions stepper motor, not so sure if they both set at the same time or one after the other. However, the one for the stepper motor means that the computer cannot see any variator movement. It could be the motor or it could be bad variator. It the balls are bad in the variator, then it will throw a stepper motor code. Most change the motor first, then they go the next step, which is removing the transmission. How many miles on the vehicle?

The computer at autozone and a transmission specialist both said it's the item you removed in the video. right now I put some lucas oil stop slip into the tranny to see if it could losen up any of the solenoids and allow fluid to pass through to allow the change to the next gear. right now Its still won't go past 20 to 25 at 4000 rpms with me pushing it which I don't do but to test what I put in it to see if it will change for me. when I start it cold and shift to drive nothing happens at all until a short time later then I would feel the kick of the tranny.I tried it on low gear and still the same thing. I do know if it were anything else besides what you show in the video I would gear noises from the tranny. But right now Its pretty much silent. So I'm going to have somebody take it out and put a volt meter to each solenoid to test if they are giving out the proper voltage. As for the motor. Its fine and in great condition.
