I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this video and share it on KZbin. I own a '07 base Sentra and I've never replaced any brake pads on any vehicle I've owned because I didn't know what I was doing. Your step-by-step break down shows just how easy it is to do.

You forgot to engage the brake pad relief tab at the tops of each brake pad. It's that wing you see sticking out. It's supposed to be hooked in to the loop of brake pad chatter device. When you release the brake pedal, this spring arm pulls the brake pads away from the rotor.
@willsrestorations4 жыл бұрын
First of all this guy's a f****** moron, he only grease one of the caliper pins at the bottom. He did not remove the top one and grease that. And you're right he did not hook in the brake tab. this is the problem you have too many f****** morons doing these videos and people wind up killing themselves thinking that that's how it's supposed to be done.

Just wanted to double check because I didn’t see it mentioned in the video or the comments below, on the Sentra I was working on the protruding tension pin was at the top on the front pad but on the bottom of the back pad. I placed the new pads with the tension pin at the top for both pads, was I wrong to do so?

Great video man, one thing I noticed, I hope that car doesn't have ABS because pushing the fluid backwards through the check valves can be bad and trigger a trouble light. I was always taught to open the bleeders then compress but that's just probably difference in training.
@olenaerhardt77252 ай бұрын
It is a very good remark and addition to the film. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I'm working on the 3rd brake sets in my DIY experience, but I've never heard about such negative effect on ABS. And the last one was 2009 Nissan Sentra w/ABS. Hopefully nothing happened, I didn't open the bleeders, when pushing the brake fluid. I didn't drive that car yet, but it is very good to know what will be the reason for the trouble light if it comes. 2 others of our cars don't have ABS. Next time I work on our Nissan front brakes, I'll definitely follow your advice. Thank you again.

I'm thinking about replacing my brakes for the first time by myself. I think I understand how to do it. My only concern is that I've seen some conflicting information about applying brake grease on the rotor and the front side of the pad where it makes contact with the rotor. Will adding the grease cause the brakes to slip on the rotor and not brake properly? Does not adding brake grease on the rotor damage my car in any way?
@CarsNToys4 жыл бұрын
Grease goes on the back side of the pad. Just do a simple google image search 'brake pad grease' and you'll find multiple images showing where the grease is placed. Cheers.
@carlosballista80114 жыл бұрын
@@CarsNToys Wow! Never would've thought of looking at the images tab. Thanks!
@gregoriopalofuego98082 жыл бұрын
You do not put grease on the rotor! This is the contact point of the pads and the rotor that makes the car stop. Grease is applied to the side of brake pads that is not in contact with the rotor. If you are unsure, don't bother with the grease. It will still be fine.
@DarkJustice19996 жыл бұрын
This is so nice and easy. Nissan wanted to charge me $200 for this. They wanted to sell me the parts for $69.99. I purchased nice ceramic pads from an auto parts store for $50. I have a friend who’s a mechanic and will put them on for me for $30. I know it’s all about the labor cost but Nissan didn’t have to try to rob me like that.

I feel like thinking about anything being wrong with my car means automatically taking it to the shop, but this video shows that a car is just a big you puzzle. Thank you so much for this!!!! But I have a question, do you have to do the wood step?? I didn't understand what that was for. Or if I can just life the caliper thing up, replace my brake pads, and skip that wood step. Or is it a must???
@CarsNToys9 жыл бұрын
Cristina Aguirre You'll need to drive the piston of the caliper back into its bore. To do that, I used a c-clamp. The piece of wood was used so I didn't damage the piston. You can also use large channel-lock pliers instead of the c-clamp.
@Flutie7NFL10 жыл бұрын
With respect, you forgot to engage that little spring tab ear at the top of pad area (and fits into the wear indicator tab) that pulls the pad away a fraction when the brakes are disengaged. There is one on the inner side as well. I forgot this once myself on a Maxima, so I understand how it can be overlooked.

@CarsNToys10 жыл бұрын
Mark Gutierrez Depends. Some of these Sentra's have drum brakes in the back instead of disc brakes. If that's the case it's completely different. However, if you have disc brakes in the rear then it's very similar. The only difference may lie with the caliper. On some Nissan's you need a special tool to drive the rear brake caliper bore. Check out my rear maxima brake pad removal video for further detail.

Anyone following this is going to do it wrong. It says, "performed by an experienced tech", but you didn't engage the relief clips at the top of the pads! Additionally, the rusty brackets should be replaced; they're only a buck or so apiece and will come with all but the cheapest pads. I'd recommend adding text that tells people about those tabs, or remove the video until you change it. You're showing people how to do it wrong.
