Watch 'Rise and Fall of Grab' here: • Grab: The Rise of Uber...
Nissan, was propelled as a global brand when it won races against big names like Porsche. But in 1999, the iconic Japanese car maker was on the verge of bankruptcy, with billions in debt and outdated cars. Behind the scenes insight reveals how one man drove Nissan's dramatic turnaround.
Big businesses rise and fall every day. Inside the Storm: Back from the Brink, is a documentary series that follows the lifecycle of four of the biggest industry players, revealing intimate details on how these major companies were run, and their survival techniques when they nearly fell into the depths.
Supplemented by interviews from industry players and professionals from around the world, this series documents how these business titans survived despite the odds and turbulence hitting them where it matters. Marvel: breaking into the film industry saved the comics publishing giant; Olympus: Japan's largest optical company overcame one of the largest accounting scandal; Philips: innovating out-of-the-box ensured the survival of this technology giant; and Nissan: the iconic Japanese car brand saved by one of the most charismatic and loved CEOs in Asia.

@@donaldhudson2235 Agreed. Datsuns were excellent cars compared to their American counterparts. There were other good realiable Japanese designs. I loved my 1978 Mazda RX-7. It would have made a good long term splash in the market place if it hadn't been for the rotary engine not getting good gas mileage. Other than that, the engine was rock solid. Today, Nissans have reliability problems, but Mazdas are great cars with innovative engine designs.

It’s really sad to see how Nissan has failed over the last 15 years. As a 40 year retired auto mechanic I can attest to how well made Nissans used to be. We rarely would have any major driveline component failures all throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. Everything was great right up to about 2005. It’s been a slow death for them since then. It’s really a shame that gross mismanagement has virtually destroyed this once top notch brand.

For years I bought used Nissans and Toyotas, considering them both reliable and well-built.Then, in 2000 (a year after Carlos Ghosn took over), I bought a new Nissan Frontier pickup truck. What a disaster! First, the glue that held on the cabin ceiling liner melted and the liner fabric just fell off. Then the two sun visors on the front windshield just broke off: The swiveling brackets that held them on were just plastic, not the usual steel. Apparently hot sun weakened the plastic. But those, of course, were minor problems. Then one day, the engine ran out of coolant and destroyed itself after less than 80,000 miles. Why? The metal part that connected the lower coolant hose to the radiator had a tiny hole in it. Lack of quality control on this $15 fitting caused thousands of dollars of damage and put the truck out of commission for weeks . All of these failures were the result of a formerly reputable company switching to garbage parts and materials to cut costs and increase profits. I have since then owned several cars, all Toyotas, none of which have EVER broken down from manufacturing failures ... or for any other reason. Nissan robbed me when I bought that pickup truck. I will never ... ever ... buy another Nissan product.
