Those specs you showed were for the regular titan. The XD diesel for 2018, even the pro4x package, have a 11,960lb tow rating (and the gas pro4x having 10,950) with numbers for both only going up the lower trim you get. So this thing is very capable and unlike half tons, is actually able to tow its rated number in real world scenarios comfortably as you said, but its still a lot higher than you listed in the video. Hopefully that mistake didn't cost nissan any sales

I bought a 2108 CC XD with the Cummings about 10 days ago. I would agree the screen needs to be larger. I was shopping for a 3/4 ton and knew of the Titan. I was going for overkill for towing capacity in the big three thinking if we ever got a larger RV I wouldn’t need to upgrade trucks. Well no one wanted to deal at any of the big three dealerships. Nissan folks did and I was looking at a nicer trim package with the Titan for less money. My bumper pull weights 9k and I know I’m at the top range for this truck even though the owners manual says 12,100. Lots of things to like about this truck.

What many people miss, is this truck comes standard with a lot of things, you have to order or step up into the other three manufacturers, the goose neck being one of them. The ride quality I'll disagree with you, I think it rides far far better than any 3/4ton truck I've ever been in. The screen size doesn't bother me, but the no apple car play was a major phopa! I've had mine almost a year now, the front is growing on me. It's nice tho, not having the same generic truck as everyone else and for me that means something. Plus, i'd put it up against any Gm Ford or Dodge in its class any day. Super glad you got to review one. The towing number of that xd diesel is close to 12,300lbs I believe.

its a heavy duty from 12 years ago....its for people who want more than half ton but less than heavy duty.....I here people say fords half ton will pull just as much......bullshit!!!.....try pulling 10000 with a half ton ford then pull with this you will see the difference!!!.....my only problem with this truck is price.....but if your a diehard chevy ford or ram fan you wont like this truck.....but for people like me I think this is a good truck and apparently people seem to agree because Nissan truck sales have shot up 140% since this truck came out in 2016....so im sure the engineers at Nissan who came up with the idea to make this truck got a pretty good bonus at Nissan.........

Good review. I think your analogy of an over built 1/2 ton is spot on. Those are impressive specs though for a 1/2 ton considering my 2006 F250 diesel had 325 HP and 540 ft. Lb. natively before tuning. Those 1/2 ton specs put that Nissan on par with some of the older 3/4 and 1 ton trucks still on the road today.

Going through the comments, what seems to be lost on folks is that Nissan wanted to create a niche they felt untapped in the truck market. The XD was never meant to compete head to head with 3/4-tons. Their mission was to provide an option for folks who needed more capacity than was available in the 1/2-ton market (at that time) yet didn't require the house-moving grunt of a 3/4-ton on a daily basis. Much like the Dodge Dakota back in the day.

For Father’s Day, my wife bought me a 2017 XD turbo diesel. It’s one of the family models with four doors, leather, and some fancy trim. Hands down, it has been the nicest truck I’ve ever owned. My truck is the crew cab model, so it probably weighs in close to 7800 lbs. I couldn’t imagine beating it around in an off-road extravaganza. I mainly use it to pull a 6500 lb. travel trailer and some commuting. It’s not a daily driver. It pulls the travel trailer as if it weren’t even there behind the truck. I’m glad I opted for the diesel over the gas engine. Snappy horsepower is nice, but torque does the work. It has been super reliable, and fuel mileage for around town is right at 15.5, and upwards of 22 on the highway on the flats. I would definitely classify it as a really beefy half ton truck. I also own a 2006 Titan which I passed down to my 17 year old son. It has also been flawless for the last thirteen years.

Once you understand this wasn't built as a 3/4 ton competitor and more of a "this does everything a half ton, but better" kind of truck you realize this is actually a good truck. I think it looks good too, but that's personal preference

Me too, I wonder if the specs are quoted accurately. I tested an XD when towing 8.5k#, but was rated for 12k# towing. I found it to be an excellent tow vehicle: very stable, lots of power. Other points not mentioned: 1/ no recalls! 2/ longest warranty. 3/ largest brakes for the rated capacity [safety]. 4/ best seats [zero gravity]. What I found missing is the exhaust brake: no problems for 6% grades, as the brakes are great, but could be useful for steeper grades. Also, a larger fuel tank would be beneficial. The XD is the ONLY 3/4 truck with the Cummins/Aisin combo: once people get educated about this, sales should increase.

I've been a titan owner since 2010 and I'm on my 4th one now, the 3rd one being an XD SV Gas model, I think the XD model is a good truck and I agree with you on the way it drives and feels like a 3/4 ton. I found that the gas engine while towing gave horrible gas millage while towing our 7800 pound travel trailer, When I bought my new 2017 Titan (non xd) , I got the yellow pro4x Crew cab and was surprised at the increase in gas millage and was a smoother ride then the xd, I might go back to a XD model if they ever bite the bullet and give it the ratings for a 3/4 ton to compete with the big 3. Awesome review but I may be bias because I am a fan of Nissan Titans

Theirs a guy i watch who points out alot of the flawe's modern vehicles will have with huge touch screens. One, they are distracting while driving and focuses the user to look at a screen vs the road. Having buttons in a truck of today is a good thing because you will gain muscle memory where your buttons are. No brand is going to software update these things so once it stops working or has a error with something your SOL. Dealer will need to be contacted for future fixing $$$. I have my Nissan Sentra and what they do right is the steering wheel got alot of the radio, cruise control,volume control and quick screen selection(hands-free calling) on there. It's handy and keeps my eyes on the Road. Copying what Tesla does with big screens isn't the safe route they doing that to simplify their production and reduce costs overall, plus they do constant software updates to keep those screens and programs running smoothly. Heres a link to where i been educated about this, does say modern cars but all vehicles are following this template. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2SpdahugNuLhck

I like this truck overall, especially in the Pro4x package. There are a few things, like any vehicle, that i found i was not crazy about, but most could be overlooked. The thing for me is the power specs and capacities. I can’t see spending the money on this truck when for a little more i can get one of the big three, with alot more power. I would also wait a couple more years before buying one of these since they are still new and trying to work out the “bugs.” Plus our local ford dealerships provide much better experiences than the local nissan dealership.

I’ve been waiting for this review for a long while on this channel. I have followed the development of the RAM VM Motori 3.0 and the Cummins 5.0, you can do the research, in short I think Nissan was trying for a niche market I’m inclined to believe they were trying to build a truck that was “in between” and capitalize on the Cummins name plate. Unfortunately the 5.0 Cummins just couldn’t get the MPG numbers compared to the RAM’s 3.0 and although the output 5.0 is respectable the Nissan can definitely fill a void personally I’m not pleased with big 3’s engine options in the 1500 series trucks except for RAM who still offers the vulnerable 5.7 Hemi without buying a premium, GM, truck with a big gasser. All in all it’s ultimately up to the user and Nissan builds good vehicles.

I do really agree with you on the spec's just done seem to fit the truck, I know that Nissan makes a city van in a 3500 model that has some really respectable payload and towing capacity. And this is one expensive unit that just doesn't have the classification, that it needs to fit what it really could be. Nice truck all and all just to pricey to not get the capability of a 3/4 Ton truck.

Good, solid review BTBRV... thanks! I've been shopping pick-ups for some time now, and I really like the Nissan but when compared to the Big 3, you can tell Nissan skimped on a lot of things. Many you mentioned here (i.e., the infotainment system, motorized mirrors, etc.). For example, Nissan engineers threw in an awesome diesel power plant but did not equip it with a exhaust brake. Why? While they say it's not needed, if you want to swim with the big boys you have to include like functions. I've driven these the Titan's several times and their really nice, solid trucks, but when compared with the other (especially Ram), the interiors really seem dated. Bottom line, it doesn't appear Nissan was truly committed to creating a competitive product... and I think the recent sales numbers show that. What do you think?

Good unbiased review. We all have a favorite " brand " truck and I like most of them. I'm always looking for the truck that gives me the best service once the warranty runs out! Hi, there! My question would be, "Who is this truck aimed at? Who is its demografic?", because it seems to fall in a niche between the 1/2 and the 3/4 ton (a 5/8 ton). Is there an application where it is the best option?
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you tow heavier trailers on the regular, the XD handles the weight and is alot more stable than a half ton, but rides alot better than a 3/4 ton. So if you tow let's say 8,000-10,000lbs you get better stability with this truck without the rough ride and higher price of a 3/4 ton.
@josephfelder33
@josephfelder33 2 жыл бұрын
This works well for me as an in-betweener. I have a family, and a 5,000lb bumper pull, and I ride motorcycles. When putting all that together, it is too much for most 1/2 ton pickups. However, I don't really need the massive towing/payload of modern 3/4 tons. With the 5/8 ton/1500HD capacity here, I can load up my kids, some dirtbikes in the bed, and hitch a light trailer to the back and haul it all into the mountains comfortably. I also like off-roading, so getting upgraded suspension along with a proven transmission, and 4 wheel drive with a locking differential is cool. I became a believer in diesel after Hurricane Katrina. Those with gassers were stranded, but diesel didn't run out, and is less volatile of course, so those with 4x4 diesels retained their mobility during catastrophe.

I had my 08 for 4 years. The only significant issue was the rear diff picked up noise. The whole axle was replaced under warranty. The old one was shipped to Nissan's research center to figure out what happened. The other issue was that the rear ceiling console was comming down. Repair cost was 600 bucks for a chunk of plastic. Fortunately my good relationship with the dealer afforded me to sweet talk nissan national customer service to pick up the tab. Otherwise I had a really good ownership experience.

I am completely biased to this truck since have owned my 2017 Nissan Titan XD S Gas (Crew Cab 7' bed) for a year now and have towed about 7000 of the 25000 miles that are on it. For the price I paid which was 26500+TTL brand new off the transport. I tow two trailers Mainly one pretty light Bumper pull cargo trailer that I max out around 6200lbs and my 24 travel trailer that is 5600lbs fully loaded. And what I can tell you is you cannot get a big three truck for that price with less than 40K miles and that will be at 1/2 ton tuck. Secondly I have towed my travel trailer, which is really a poor aerodynamic design, with the Ford F-150 V6 Twin turbo and while I have the torque and power the suspension swayed and shook like I was pulling it with a jeep. Also 2018 is really just the second really year of production and it is every bit as capable as a 2004-2006 F-250. Give Nissan a few years and they will get up to snuff to the Super Duty Standard

1600 lbs payload? Not a 5/8 ton truck. Definitely a half ton. If you are looking for a truck to legally handle a larger trailer or toy hauler, this would not allow you to be legal while towing. I would rather opt for a 3/4 ton Chevy, Dodge or Ford, or perhaps their max tow version half ton. I'm sorry but this Titan XD with the Cummins engine is a joke. And if Nissan thinks this truck will play ball with the big boys, it's not going to hang.

Wireman134 car and driver has the f250 weighting 8300lbs on their scales, and the 2012 f250 at 7900lbs. I've also seen power wagons on TFL weighting around 7300ish pounds if my memory serves me correctly. The cummins weights 1150 lbs without 3 gallons of oil and the excessive emissions equipment and its more robust transmission. The 6.4 hemi is 500 lbs. Links provided. But against trucks from 10 years ago(and the current chevy), I think you're right. www.google.com/amp/s/www.caranddriver.com/amp/reviews/2017-ford-f-250-super-duty-diesel-4x4-crew-cab-test-review www.ramforum.com/threads/cummins-vs-hemi-weight.112416/
