The original XTerra was a hit because it was a very basic, no frills, rugged SUV at a price that undercut the completion. The raised rear roof mimicked the Land Rover Discovery and it just worked. With the way prices on comparable rigs are going, there is definitely room to come in under them price wise. Just stick to the OG Xterra’s formula.
@brandon_buildsDIY9 ай бұрын
This is Nissan’s chance to basically save the brand. The new Xterra has to have that frontier frame and drivetrain. It also has to start at like 36k-45k topped out. The new frontier needs a telescoping steering wheel and updated camera that’s it!!!! The Nissan frontier is now the best mid size truck to buy by a landslide. You can find brand new PR04X’s for up to 4k off MSRP. If the new Xterra has the fancy roof it will be a volume seller for sure, Nissan is now in the prime spot to take advantage. It’s a shame the Nissan titan is getting discontinued, I think the Pro4x fully spec’d out trim with 10-15k miles used you can find for like 40-45k used is now the best truck to buy in my opinion. Yes ik it’s a bigger truck but the gas mileage is not that much different, tows 10k big ol very reliable V8 and a 9sp trans. As of right now the titan, frontier, armada and the new pathfinders are the most reliable and criminally underrated vehicles in their respective class. I would not buy any other Nissan if not listed above.

@aerynlovell47549 ай бұрын
I think it's funny how they always try to make people think that naturally aspirated engines are inferior antique technology that are not fuel efficient. There are plenty of things you can do to a naturally aspirated engine to improve fuel economy. But you can't improve the fuel economy of a turbocharged engine because it uses fuel as an engine coolant and dumps the unburned fuel into the catalytic converter. Small displacement turbocharged engines in trucks are bigger gas guzzling pigs than a V8. If Nissan offers a free flowing performance intake/exhaust, high flow catalytic converter, and adjusts the engine tune, they could improve fuel economy and horsepower/torque. After I replaced the stock muffler on my truck with a Cherrybomb Vortex, my fuel economy improved by 2 MPG. However, then I replaced the 16-inch rims with 18-inch rims and fuel economy dropped by 2 MPG.
@CodyLeslie9 ай бұрын
@@aerynlovell4754what? Unburned fuel doesn’t get dumped into the cat unless there is a problem. Also, I don’t doubt that you got better mpg with a free flowing exhaust, it also was very likely worse on emissions which is the other component of why manufacturers are resorting to small displacement turbo engines. It’s not just fuel economy. If not for the emissions and fuel economy standards, Toyota would put the diesel from the Hilux in these.

Pickup trucks get a break on emissions, as for giant SUVs over 7,000 lb (I think it's 7,000 lb). That's why vehicle manufacturers are putting 4 cylinder or twin turbo V6 engines in midsized, truck frame, off road SUVs. Hopefully a new XTerra comes sooner, rather than later. Nissan also needs to update the Frontier a little to get closer to equipment levels of the new batch of midsize trucks. There is likely some room above the Pro4X for something with a front locker and a lift to compete more with the higher end ones.
@justaname1099 ай бұрын
I have a 23 pro 4x and honestly wouldn’t want more than I have. There’s aftermarket front lockers available for it, but the vast majority of people buying trucks won’t even use the rear locker, let alone have the need a front. I actually use mine off roading and honestly for the majority of what I do, a suspension upgrade and tires is all I needed to be fairly capable. Even after lift, upper control arms, wheels and tires, I’m still 10k under a $60k stock TRD pro. As far as tech, I genuinely don’t know what else you would need
@lesfoster41278 ай бұрын
@@justaname109 adding more features like a factory lift and front locker won’t replace the pro4x, add a trim above it. Like the Pro4x warrior. Give people the option, there’s no reason to cede ground to Ford, GM and Toyota. For tech, definitely update the screen. Make it a little taller, add some more features like maps that’ll let you record your route off road. Give us wireless CarPlay and wireless charging on more trims. Lastly, add some engine options. A turbo 4 would be nice to see. Would be even better if Nissan would slap the new twin turbo 3.8l in there for the highest trims as an option to compete with the Raptor, h.o. 2.7l from GM and the TRD Pro iforce hybrid. In 22, the Frontier was a seriously competitive vehicle, now… it’s falling behind a bit from every other truck that has been refreshed.
@justaname1098 ай бұрын
@@lesfoster4127 I mostly agree here except for the turbo 4 and my 23 pro 4x came with wireless CarPlay and wireless charging already, so it already has those option. For off road, I use the OnX app, so I don’t need any additional features for offroad tech. I’m also quite happy with the naturally aspirated v6. To be honest, if they had an engine option, I’d rather it have a v8 titan motor. Everyone is doing the 4cyl turbo thing right now. I’ve owned quite a few turbo vehicles from Subarus to Volvos and it’s refreshing to just have a naturally aspirated and fairly simple engine. You may say it’s falling behind, I still like my 23 pro 4x better than any other midsize truck on the market.
@lesfoster41278 ай бұрын
@@justaname109 a v8 would be cool, but doubt that would happen. A turbo v6 would compete very well with the high output midsize trucks. Have some engine options will open up the list of perspective buyers a little. Wireless CarPlay and charging is so far only available on the pro4x. Would be nice to see that trickle down to lower trims or even be a kit that could be installed later. Still having a factory map would be nice, especially when phones hit dead zones. A little larger screen to compete more and also integrated trail brake controller would be nice. These are things a lot of the other midsize trucks have. If Nissan wants to remain competitive, they need to start adding to the frontier. You or I may like the truck as is, but we’re not the general buying public who’s wanting more and nicer things.

I think Nissan has a real good opportunity here. What they need to do is save money and go old school and be one of the only off-roaders that's old school where you have a manual transmission option. You have a manual transfer case manual hubs. It needs to have at least a rear locker. I'd recommend having a front locker too though, And I know there's probably not a chance of getting a manual cable or linkage engaged locker in an oem car even though I think that would be awesome. And I would totally trade in my car and buy that if there was one like that where everything was manual And then you wouldn't have to worry about airlines getting cut or electronics not working or putting it in drive in reverse 15 times to try and get the locker to engage or disengage you could actually feel it happening and I think people who buy those off-roaders would really like that. especially the way that everything's getting automated like I heard with the Toyota how you can't lock the rear diff unless you're in low range. that's just ridiculous or like if you use the terrain select you can't manually change other things and if they could make stuff more. A la carte like I love Ford bronco with the Sasquatch package because you could get a base model and throw on the Sasquatch package and you have a almost unstoppable off-roader and you don't have to get the crazy upper trims to do it but that would be. My recommendation is to keep everything as manual as possible and that should cut the cost too. And then they could also just stick with the 3.8 engine. It's cheaper. It's less complex, although I'd love to see a straight six. I know that's not going to happen and maybe even at Diesel option. Although you can't beat that instant torque in a gas engine at least from a turbo four banger with a tiny turbo.

We even did the occasional roadtrip with 3 adults and the carseat. A roof-box and a hitch-rack make it easy, but we often didn't even need either. I use a Crosstrek similarly now. Our 1st-gen Highlander easily fits its full capacity of 7ppl and their luggage too, for trips to/from the airport. For trips with all the toys, either vehicle can also pull a trailer. I want Honda to hop in as well. The passport and Ridgeline need to go body on frame for that size class. If they want unibody offroaders they can always make more smaller models like the Ford Maverick.
@johnnymason24609 ай бұрын
Don't count on Honda doing that. They care too much about FWD and fuel efficiency.

Honda body on frame would be funny asf.

I still see Xterra’s everywhere here in Colorado.

I think it's one of the few SUVs that will last forever Nissan xterra
@roberthoyt79219 ай бұрын
Besides the Xterra, Nissan should aim for the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 (or Prado Mk5 in markets such as Australia) with an old-school sub-Y63 BoF SUV inspired by older Patrol SUVs such as the one found in George Michael's holiday classic Last Christmas. It may be called Patrol Sport or Patrol Safari in markets where Patrol Y63 is sold, and simply Patrol all across Europe and perhaps in North America. It could also be sold in Japan as the revived Safari.
@johnnymason24609 ай бұрын
The Patrol is already here. It's called the Armada. A version similar to the Land Cruiser Prado is unlikely since that would interfere with the Xterra.
@roberthoyt79219 ай бұрын
@@johnnymason2460 The Y62 Patrol/Armada is more of a Middle East/Australia-friendly behemoth rather than a North American one. The Y63 Armada could end up with the same fate as the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 back in 2021. The Patrol-based LC250/Prado rival isn't related to the North American Frontier pickup at all.

Are you guys doing the 2025 Infinity QX80?!

I'd love to see the Xterra come back, but also would love to see Ford bring the Everest to North America. 4Runner just doesn't have any competition in the body on frame SUV category other than other Toyota/Lexus products.
@johnnymason24609 ай бұрын
The Everest needs to come here as a 5-passenger off-road capable SUV. The Explorer already covers the 7-passenger family crossover market.

A Frontier Xterra $5-8k less than a 4Runner will gain a lot of new customers

Here in east / Asia, we have body on frame SUV Nissan TERRA, (maybe modern X-terra in diesel) that beats Toyota Fortuner (4runner in diesel / HILUX SUV) in comfort, interior space in cheaper price. The looks is kinda same in the concept photo in video. just like Frontier or Navarra but in suv form. u can search it. (In middle east, they called it X-terra too)

I don't care how they price it.... if manufacturers don't STOP cramming excessive computerization into vehicles I won't be buying any more new ones. Just build something that's simply engineered and reliable. Technology doesn't age well, and as much as vehicles cost these days, they have to last 10‐15 years. No more laptops on wheels, please.

1990’s were excellent… nice to see them making another run!!

They're going to bring it back as a front wheel drive CVT commuter with some black cladding and call it an off-road vehicle

Unfortunately I think you are probably right...

Wouldn't that just be the Pathfinder though? I'm really hoping they intend to create some real differentiation in the lineup with a new Xterra.
@chadgraber45759 ай бұрын
Nah, they already have the Pathfinder and Rogue. They know not to do what Chevy did with the "Blazer"

My 2015 TRD- OFF ROAD with the 4 liter would spank some V-8s. It was also ALOT lighter. Nissan, cut the weight and keep the non turbo V-6 and gas mileage and performance will put you on top. Full Stop!!

Would buy before a Toyota for certain. Nissans are decent if avoid their cvts

The Xterrible was the smaller-ish brother of another once legendary vehicle that Nissan turned into a dog's breakfast: The Pathfinder. Pathfinder was the true competitor to the 4Runner, not the Xterra. Xterra was more after Cherokee sales.
@cmcb72309 ай бұрын
Yeah the original pathfinder was essentially a suv 2/4 door hardbody.
@aredman229 ай бұрын
I'll disagree with you on that. The Cherokee wasn't even offered during most of the XTerra's run. I bought an XTerra because I couldn't afford a 4Runner at the time. It served me well for almost 18 years and was still ran great when I sold it. I replaced it with a 5th gen 4Runner because it had most of the features I liked about the XTerra, minus the manual transmission 😢.
@colep.8330Күн бұрын
Xterra is way more capable than any pathfinder. Don’t disrespect them

Hurry hurry hurry Nissan! Call me nuts but I think a hybrid 3 liter v6 would be awesome

I liked my Xterra, was a great truck/SUV. simple. interior was a little lame....plastic. Recently replaced it with a 23' Frontier Pro4x. Love my new truck. got 3k off. was about $40k plus TT&L. good luck getting a deal on a new taco. A new Xterra would be cool. Nissan.....Please....if you make a new Xterra.....KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't make it overly complicated and $60k.
@crushbaseball42709 ай бұрын
Well, we got the pricing of the new Trd Pro Tacoma and if the 4Runner is still more expensive than the Tacoma like it used to be the trd pro will probably be 70,000
