Nice to see these faces again. Richard Hatch died way too young. I met him a few times at San Diego Comic Con and then again through my friend who made a movie with him. He was a real sweetheart.

Me, too. I remember how MAD I was when the series was cancelled! I wrote a letter to the executives at ABC, asking them to bring the show back, but they never bothered to answer. I do remember hearing in the evening news, that 2 kids had hanged themselves after Battlestar Galactica was cancelled. The series was cancelled, not due to low ratings, but it was way too expensive (1 million dollars per episode) to produce for the late 1970s.

I was 5 when the original series came out, I was a big fan, loved it. Was so upset when it got cancelled. I made sure to watch as many re-runs as I could in the 80's. Miss that era of TV, it was a lot of fun.

Battlestar Galactica 1978 was a terrific show and was consistantly high ratings. The special effects were budgeted at $1million per episode, an unheard of sum back them. although the show was always a top 20 show in the Neilson ratings, ABC cancelled the show because the budget was so high. That was the first time a network did that. I too never liked the new version of the show. I really miss the original.

The old Battlestar Galactica special effects may not compare to new CGI graphics but they were groundbreaking at the time, and they still hold up decently to me. The fight scenes needed more new/different ones is all. I like the original BG and Star Wars better than the new ones! They and the actors have more charm to me. Lorne Greene was such a great actor, a perfect Adama. Richard Hatch as Apollo too. They all were great! Lines for the females could`ve been better though in some scenes.

This is my all time special favorite space galactic adventure, action, drama science fiction show (Battlestar Galactica (1978 version) & Battlestar Galactica 1980) of all times! I'm very sad & angry that the show didn't last for at least over five to ten years. It's a very, very good show of survival and the search for hope! I personally don't like the 2004 Battlestar Galactica show much because it has too many dramatics, fowl languages (figurative), etc. I love the original show it felt of hope
@STP43FAN114 жыл бұрын
The entirety of the cast on Galactica was superb. It is funny in that John Colicos was the unsung driving force in that show and it always annoyed me when he was captured by the Fleet - he drove the show even more when he was in direct command of the Cylons. The mid-1990s comic book incarnation wisely put him back in command of Cylon forces (though I think Colicos laughed at the long hair they gave him there!)
@jesman115 жыл бұрын
I just love the original Battlestar Galactica. It for sure had it`s charm and good actors. It was funny/humorous too. Shame on ABC for cutting it only after a year! We could`ve had many more great episodes. Also losing Jane Seymore after only two episodes was a tragic loss. I felt her and Richard had really great chemistry off each other. Ever wonder how Cassiopia went from being a socialator to a medic? Kinda funny. Love her. Sheba too.

A bit more sci-fi trivia for you, john colicos who played baltar on battle star galactia, was the very first person to play a Klingon in star trek history. He played a Klingon officer called kor. From the episode errand of mercy, march 23rd 1967 Star trek the original series. He later reprised the role again in 3 episodes of star trek deep space nine.

I loved how they constantly bickered with each other. And when Lucifer basically stabbed Baltar in the back by attacking the pyramids on kobol and almost killing him and wrecking his plans. Baltar's absolutely losing his mind pinned under the concrete on what he's going to do to Lucifer. It would have been hilarious if he were back in the basestar in the next episode with an entirely new robot instead of Lucifer.

You don't get that caliber of actors from Hollywood these days. The old greats had presence and knew how to use it. Even the actors who were young at the time of the original BGS learned a lot from the big names on this show.

Ho hell yeah they do!! I HATE the over relyance on CGI nowadays. It's like a form of the Film maker's art has been lost or tossed away before a propper replacement has been forund. That's why the outer space scenes look so good in Star Wars.It's the old thing about throwing away the reliable old tool in favour of the new one when the old tool was much better and more robust. I forget what the saying is.

I was going to mention him actually. I couldn't remember the name of the guy with the crystalline head. By your command and all that stuff. That was pretty cool effects for its day too! I wonder what they'd do today if they wanted to create that character.

@angiedickinsonski Anne Lockhart (Sheba's) dad was not an actor but her mother June Lockhart was a famous actress, her grandparents as well. Lorne Green, a Canadian Jew was not a Shakespearean actor. However his commanding voice earned him the nickname of "The Voice of Doom" and "The Voice of Canada" in his first career as a radio newsreader, and similarly served him well in his role as Adama.

I loved the original series and the the new one. Probably get some hate for it but I don't care. You have to remember that although it's Sifi, the old series was a reflection of society at that time. The new one had to be different, it could not be remade with 70s/80s values and be successful. Oldies like myself would get it, but it would not be as popular with the younger generation.
@erikpiron6 жыл бұрын
I loved both series too. The original is really innocent, black & white, the evil cylons vs. the good humans. The new show the polar opposite, every had a dark side but noone was pure evil. (except maybe cavill, but he was just an angry kid that never learned any morals from his parents (final five, mainly Ellen Tigh) The cylons were slaves of the 12 colonies until they became self aware. Until the last season, with the exception of Athena, all cylons were treated as things, when they had become persons a long time ago. Captured cylons are killed soon after interrogation. The cylons were still evolving from children to adults up until the final season, when the rebels learned to coexist & respect humans even while many of those human would rather see them all dead. After seeing the episode where Admiral Adama tells his son about the covert mission where they sent a stealth ship beyond the armistice line to scout for cylons, it was becoming more & more clear to me that the human (at least those in power) were not the good guys at all & the cylons has just cause to go to war twice.

Yeah, I mean I get it that they were probably trying to inject the show with a little realism with the silent battle scenes, cause as the saying goes ; in space no one can hear you scream, but it made for a sort of boring action sequence. And why turn Starbuck in to a woman????
@homerelesperance285711 жыл бұрын
That's another thing that sucks about the 2004 version (Battlestar Galactica), they made Starbuck in to a woman, lol. They should as well made Adama into Santa Claus, Apollo as Jack the Ripper and the rest of the entire characters into the seven dwarfs', LMAO! What a fiascal the 2004 (Battlestar Galactica) version is, wickedly wickedly whack! Adama have major anger issue, Starbuck have a fowl mouth, Colonel Tigh a white grouchy old guy, Boomer a girl, Baltar a mild mannered scientist - WTF! 8O

In this day of age, writers don't know how to write a good science fiction, galactic-space adventure, action-drama show. They should have hired George Lucas or the original writer or writers of Battlestar Galactica (version 1978 & 1980) rather than writers who are probably on LSD, on a very bad, awful acid trip or tainted marijuana joint! My eight year old fraternal nephew & niece have better vision & imagination than these writers of Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009, TV) writers put together! :)
