Nitrogen Gas vs Air In Your Tyres. A Moment with Mic.

You should always fill your Tyres with Nitrogen gas. Here Mic explains Why?
Your tyres will run cooler.
You will have better handling.
Better steering, better braking, better tyre life, better fuel economy and your tyres won't oxidise.
Over time, air will still permeate the tire wall and weaken the tire's structural integrity. Known as oxidation, this process causes the tire to become brittle and lose strength.

Finally - someone who talks sense and says what I have been saying since this nitrogen nonsense first became a thing. Driving in heavy sand in Botswana, I told a travel buddy that he should blow down the tyres of his Defender to get flotation on top of the sand. He would have better control of the vehicle but would use substantially less fuel instead of pushing his rock-hard tyres through the sand. He replied that his tyres were filled with nitrogen, so he didn't want to release any because although he had a compressor with him, he didn't want to reinflate with air once we were back on paved roads. No amount of logic could persuade him to change his mind, so for about 300km he drove with his foot mashed into the floorboards most of the way.

Great video! Very factual, Tiger wheel and tyre offers free nitrogen refills so for that reason I don't mind filling with nitrogen but certainly would not pay for it.

Even the major tyre manufacturers can't agree on this subject. There is some merit for the aviation industry, primarily related to the moisture content of air.

Fully agree for usual use of 4x4 on long run tracks, but what’s about deflating,inflating on off-road…..need carrying nitrogen tank?

The whole point of the video is that nitrogen is unnecessary and makes no appreciable difference to any parameter no matter what vehicle you drive or what roads you drive it on, including off-road. But if you insist, then instead of carrying a tank of nitrogen with you, just do what I do - use your compressor to pump 79% nitrogen into your tyres. We call it air.

Honestly that’s the only time I fill my tires with nitrogen😂. Carrying a nitrogen cylinder is a lot more practical than a “practical size” air compressor. I carry it manly to run air tools but it’s also great for inflating tires. Those little 12 volt tire inflator compressor things are useless for running air tools. A cylinder of nitrogen is dirt cheap as it’s a waste product of welding gas production. I think I pay about $10 for a 150cf cylinder of nitrogen compared to $20 for oxygen and $70 for argon.
