Just saw your video! I just subscribed. What attracted me was how similar your bench work is to the layout I started in April of 2020, when I was stuck at home for a good part of that year. At the time I was able to get 1/2” MDF to use for my tabletops at an inexpensive cost. I also did use 1/2” foam glued to the tabletop and Gargraves track. For your “duck under” consider using an MTH arch bridge and hinge it to one side, or get the Mianne lift section. Either way will make life easier to get into the middle of your rail empire.
@marcsoscaletrains6 ай бұрын
Thanks Bob. Definitely looking into a couple options for the duck under section. With 3 tracks going over that area I will definitely need to look at some options.

Nice introduction to your layout. You have a lot to work with and those long runs are going to be awesome. I liked that you mentioned what your focus will be and are looking ahead to the future. If I ever get the opportunity to build another layout there will be several changes including access, climbing, and bending issues. I know how challenging it can be to document your progress but if you could share your layout milestones with us that would be great. Congratulations!

Thanks Phil, I'm actually a big proponent of smaller sized layouts. I feel they are not so overwhelming when folks come to see it. They can really focus on the work and detail and not the size. I just got a bit carried away. :)

This is going to be a fabulous lay out. I would like to ask you to consider one thing as you progress along that almost every KZbin, and layout creator dismisses. There are a couple of us that are really interested in how the transformer lay out panel is equipped. We don’t think about it, but we spend a lot of time looking at our transformers And our switch controllers and all of the things that it takes to make the layout great. If you go to any KZbin video, you may never see how the layout is powered whether you use new equipment or old equipment or a combination, layout panels, how they are laid out, where they are laid out, is actually pretty interesting. It may not be a focus of one of your videos, but I would like to see you include it for those few of us that are interested. Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Layout start looks great. Wish I had enough room for a 50 ft run! I agree with you on track choice, I too purchased a lot of atlas when it came out years ago but yeah, it's expensive. While the tie size is more prototypical the rail heads are too wide making it look almost like narrow gauge. But it was the flex track that really changed my choice to GG. Man it was tough to flex. GG, so much easier to flex (and cut). Thanks for the video, I found it very interesting, hope you'll provide some updates.

Marc...new subscriber here from Maine. I find your videos informative. Keep'em rolling please. A question on plywood... I'm putting together a 16' x 8' layout. Four sheets of plywood placed but not permanently attached on four 8' tables. Therefore I'm looking for plywood that won't warp and remain level. Would OSB be suffice or do you recommend something more solid ? I'm strictly conventional, four loops, four Z1000 transformers for now. Thank you for your advice. 👍
@marcsoscaletrains10 сағат бұрын
I think it depends on your location, humidity etc. Plywood would probably be best in your case as it is pretty dense and if it's lying flat it shouldn't warp. It would be best to screw it down just to make certain it doesn't, but I'd wait and see. You can always throw some screws down if it does start to warp, but I don't think it will. Appreciate the comment.

Subscribed and looking forward to more videos. I was wondering what you're using for roadbed? Can you give details on the cut saw. If you could include a shot of the underneath bench work in the next video, that'd be great. I'm just starting on my 3rd layout. It will be 10'x24'. I'm using Gargraves track, and ross switches. I have 3/4 inch plywood for most of the table top (it is all from last layout). I used Homasote on my first layout and debating on using it on current build.

@marcsoscaletrains4 ай бұрын
I avoid marking it kid friendly. It’s just too risky for the youtube internet police to hit your channel if they hear something they consider not kid friendly. That could be something as simple as you saying the word stupid or dang it! Yeah it’s that bad.
