Frank Marchese of Dandy Engines gives us the lowdown on Speedpro Distributors’ new Ford Windsor small block V8 engine. The engine is fitted in an Ford XD Falcon that has run in the low 9-second naturally aspirated. This new build now features billet cylinder heads by NXTGEN, a Fueltech EFI conversion and a custom single stage dry nitrous system.

HOW is 12.5 to 1 on 98 ron..or 93 octane here in the states....possible? Yes static compression is one thing, dynamic another. However, seems like your taking timing away for pump gas. Something has to give. Great vids you guys post.

yeah I'm pretty sure its a raised intake runner head, and the exhaust is also raised about a foot lol.

hey guys, i'm just learning engine building. Can you add 100 cubic inches to a small block 351 Windsor with a stroker kit without cracking the block itself ? just asking, it seems that small block Ford might crack somewhere ?

Andrew Murray no you definitely need aftermarket block . Dart for Windsor or Dart or Arrow for Cleveland

I wonder if he got off th N2o at the end- it fell over so hard. 900RPM after peak power it had lost 300hp!!! I suppose when you look at it as a % it's not all that different to any other big RPM N/A motor

Sometimes even after purging the nitrous you can get some gaseous instead of liquid nitrous coming down the line... that's the cause of the little stumbles... but they are rich stumbles... not lean!! How do I know this...... I could smell it!!!

Why does the engine get so jumpy when the nitrous is used? Like the rpm keeps going up and down as it climbs?

It's the dyno, not the engine.

disagree I saw blow by through the valve covers and it ran so rough after the 2nd dyno run. you almost blew it to pieces

Loading and unloading and engine like that at maximum power is not good for it. You would come down from peak torque then slap straight into it again without ramping up. Shit would have been all over the floor

Yeah I think it would be the retarder (water brake) in the dyno adjusting to the very sudden power jump when the nitrous is introduced. If you can imagine the water acting against the rotor inside it, a sudden power increase would take it by surprise if you know what I mean.

It didn't hurt the engine... LOL! They go through much more while in the car being raced. If it blew up from that it wouldn't last if you had to pedal it once at the track. It only ran rough because it went form a full load, high RPM pull to jumping off the throttle suddenly and going back to idle a little too fast for the carby. That's really common in that situation. Engines can stall doing that

They didn't hurt it. It's just went from full load high RPM pull to off the throttle and back to idle very suddenly. Most V8 carby engines will behave like that if you suddenly drop off the gas at high load, high RPM. You can make them stall doing that... You see it with guys doing burnouts at the drags and jumping off it all of a sudden. If you don't blip the throttle while the revs are on the way back down or save it with a blip when it gets to idle they spit the dummy and stall

I have a 408 windsor ford in a 72 Mach 1 and 406 sbc in a 79 corvette. I have built fords and chevy motors. The Lsx combines good engine strategies with good breathing aluminum heads in an engine with modern vastly improved seals. you can get a salvage yard ls, do a cam swap and make the kind of power you would have to work hard for in an older motor. You can actually buy a low mileage used ls for less than the cost of comparable heads for a ford. The lsx is probably the best most cost effective motor ever produced. Ford has a great motor in the coyote but the cost to keep up with the lsx power makes it second to the ls in my opinion. Doubt you will find this a year later.

C C the LS engine is basically designed from several different Ford engines,and the large cubic inch gives them alot of torque..

The LS was designed by Albert Einstein jr . Cousin of Victor jr. He took all the bad parts out of the ford and called it an LS. ..... His friends.....Stephen Hawkings and the like told him to use the first and last letters of of the most fitting name. ... ( L udicrou S).... and such is history!!!
