Alison Krauss with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is exquisite. Who else will keep this music alive?
@EchosLens4 жыл бұрын
Oh my, there are so many musicians, singer-songwriters, out there but in relative obscurity. A bunch of those people are women who have been redefining bluegrass, and country. I don't know where to start with a list, but let me know if you are interested and I will point you in the direction of folks playing some badass songs and such. One thing, have you ever seen Sierra Hull play mandolin and sing? She was helped up into the music industry by performing with Alison Krauss when she (Sierra) was in about the 2nd grade. Alison was brought up and out into prominence in the same way; very young. Sierra Hull is all grown up now, still playing mandolin with her band, performing, and blazing new trails for women, in bluegrass and mandolin playing. Both of those fields have been male dominated for a very long time.

Then you get it my friend. This was written in '72 and obviously meant to bring unity. I live in Vicksburg, I am a white male and don't subscribe to any form of racism. Slowly things are changing. I live in Vicksburg, MS and see a lot of love between whites and blacks. I also see a lot of ignorant people stuck in backwards mentalities, both black and white. Like I said, things are changing slowly but surely. Actions speak louder than words, and as long as some of us continue to bring love, that backwards thinking will dissolve.

How can a simple song with 3 chords in 4/4 time be so moving? One word - talent. Great lyrics (RIP Johnny Russell). Great band with fantastic harmony vocals (NGDB). Talented musicians (Randy Scruggs, Jerry Douglas, and Alison Krauss) who use their talent to complement the song instead of outdoing each other or showing us how good or how fast they are. The best voice on the planet sings the song. No auto tune or other electronic help. No light show, no dancers, just music. And it was live..... That, my friends is talent. Many of today’s singers could not tune the instruments for to the talent on display in this video. Incredible performance.

One correction. Johnny Russell had the original recording but the song was written by Bob McDill and Allen Reynolds.

Approximately 60 years ago I saw a nitty gritty dirt band on a sidewalk in Fairfax Virginia in front of Giant Music across the street from Jim McKay Chevrolet. Mr Bojangles had just been released and they were promoting it on AM radio. They also had a washboard and a wash tub base at that time. Truly acoustic

Wow! Allison’s voice is absolutely beautiful! My husband and I typically listen to the JGB cover of this song, but this one is fantastic. Great sound!

back when I had cable television I recorded the nitty-gritty dirt band and Alison Krauss. How much to watch that show 30 or 40 times
