@18:19 This is the very reason I got out of drag racing for the last 30 years!! Fix, break, fix, break, fix, break, money, money, money, fix, break, money, money. Yep, totally know the feeling!! We're now building a new vehicle (an S10),. We're focused on running 11'os-10:90's, and that's all it's doing! It's being built as a go have fun, don't break the bank, bracket car, weekend street fun hotrod, and building to last for years! It's just for fun, and it's all about enjoying our build and project, to hell with all the money out-go, and all of the stress over how fast it is nonsense!! Love what you do, but I totally understand the frustration! Peace!

4l60e transmissions are famous for their lack of durability. I'd be more suspicious if that than anything. That being said, perhaps bellhousing is offset somehow and pushing the pump off center or something like that.

Would a powerglide for the 1/8 mile events be feasible?
@andrewnelson3733
@andrewnelson3733 2 жыл бұрын
PG with current gears would work. With better prep you throw more power at it. The TH400 gives you more power with the gear multiplication. If you gear it for the 1/8 with anticipation of good prep you need both the steep rear gear and the trans gearing. If not, a PG and steep rear gear OR a 1/4 rear and TH400 first works well. It becomes very difficult to kill that much gearing with turning down the engine it creates a whole new challenge.

If there is a bright side... transmissions usually fail because there was too much horsepower and it usually is the weakest link. If you can afford it a clutch and a 3 speed manual planetary gear set , just use the clutch on the start and shift manually without the clutch that's what Garrett Mitchell uses on Ruby his 1/8th mile car. He's got a five speed but he's running a 3.73 rear he ran a junkyard 4.7 liter in that for 2 years, but no matter what engine, drive train combination you use you're gonna wheely on some tracks and come unglued on others and sometimes it's the ambient temp.
