NJ's Best Burger Slider: White Mana vs White Manna | Brunch Boys

For generations New Jersey locals have been at odds over which institution serves NJ's best Sliders, White Mana or White Manna. Both are very similar both in terms of food, location, and aesthetic, but I went to Jersey to try and figure out which one was actually best!

Jersey girl here- born and bred. I’ve been to both locations multiple times and I agree with you hands down- Hackensack is the better White Manna. After my last visit to Jersey City (about a year ago) I decided that it really just came down to the ingredients. In better days, I have sat at both counters numerous times and watched the burgers being made. They are both made in the same style so I think the Hackensack location just uses better quality beef, better buns (martin’s potato rolls) and has better fries. it’s all those details that I believe make a better burger. I live in Jersey City and I love the White Mana Diners burger, I will try the White Manna burger today. The lady getting out of the semi truck video bombed your shot. All I can say about that is welcome to Jersey City baby!

Every trip the wife and I make down to Paramus(container store) we head over to WM in Hackensack for the sliders... Just phenomenal and even more impressive is how the cook keeps up with all of the orders.

My family is from Jersey City, and I want to be loyal to my roots (even though I was raised in Morristown and am currently a Montclairian), but White Manna in Hackensack gets my vote. ‎ Also, how the hell are you making it from Hackensack to Jersey City in 15 minutes?! That's easily a 20-25 minute drive!

I lived 15 minutes away from the JC location for years' however I must admit the Hackensack location is the winner hands down. The JC spot was more like a truck stop rather than a sit down & enjoy your meal type of vibe.

Been to both many times, Hackensack by far is better. One thing you didn’t mention is the pickles. In my opinion, that is one of the differentiators in addition to the potato bun.

I found the double and the fries to be a waste of my time when I went there. Took up prime real estate that could've been occupied by the single sliders.

OK, since I am a taxi driver, I'll visit Mana in JC when I'm near Tonelle & Manhattan ave., but stop by Manna in Hackensack when I'm near River Ave. At least I USED to stop by Hackensack - can't anymore, since I don't have the time to waste. I've waited 45 minutes for them to get to my order. I can't really blame the place - it's the area. It is all business and commerce - industries with people hungry for lunch. They place phone orders (for everyone) so if you stop by Manna, you'll watch them preparing bag after bag of take out orders, before they get to you. Power to them. On the other hand, Mana in JC is in a quiet, industrial area; not as much business (auto repair stores, factories, motels), and so they don't get the crowds. I never had a problem in JC. Probably a more dangerous neigborhood. Now to the food review. Mana in JC: meat tastes more like fresh beef; meatier, beefier. Staff is very friendly and accomodating - they once made a 'special request' omelette for me (with ground beef, cheese, onions) that was HEAVENLY. Also, their milk shakes are machine-made, but still GREAT! I never had the fries, can't add any comments about pickles or onions. Ireland brand coffee quite good. I should also mention that Mana is THE ORIGINAL, dating back to the 1939 World's Fair. Manna in Hackensack: did I mention the waiting time? Staff is way rushed, and maybe would be friendly if they weren't so busy, but I didn't get that vibe. Meat does not taste as good to me as Mana in JC. I haven't had the fries. It appears that people buy whole cupfuls of pickle chips there; probably good, but I haven't tried. Two best features I will mention are the rolls (delicious potato bread) and the onions. Hell - maybe the best fried onions I've ever had in my life! So while Manna has some points, the winner for me is THE MEAT, and that means White Mana in Jersey City.

This is dope. Totally agree with you on the tongue out layup. I love both spots - I go to them for different kinds of cravings. Looks like at White Manna - the hackensack spot - you got singles. I will argue the single patty doesn't balance the ingredients as effectively as the double. Esp with that amount of onions and potato bun. But 100% agree, 8/10 I'm going to White Manna in Hackensack, mainly bc of the potato buns and 50yo grease.

Problem in New Jersey with finding great food?!?!? Hundreds of Portuguese Restaurants, great diners still exist, excellent pizza statewide, ethnic deli’s I know 10 great Steak places within 10 miles of the GWB. Hoboken is loaded with great mom and pops. I know offices in the city (NYC) take the PATH over for food! So try to take your head out of your and actually look!
