These guitars are soooo underrated it's ridiculous! I brought mine in 93 because I couldn't afford a strat. I eventually was able to afford a strat. After I got over the strat snob stage and got a better appreciation for tone I realized that my peavy sounded more like an old strat than my strat did. I'm searching for more. Love, love, love this guitar.

Highly underrated. I had a Peavey USA Telecaster copy that I disassembled to repaint--and time passed and I never got it put back together. I know where an identical red strat, USA, is for $50 at a pawn shop, and the guy has had it for two years. Why they are so unappreciated is a mystery to me.

I have a USA Predator that I've owned for quite some years. I also have a Fender Strat which I've also had for a long time. The Predator is a very nice guitar. They're not expensive, plays well and feels good. I take it to gigs and leave it on the stage without worrying about it. Stays in tune and looks nice. I would recommend this guitar to just about anyone. The one I have is all original hardware and sounds fine.

OK, update to my original post. Decided to make a project out of the Predator. re-finished to natural wood / satin clear coat, replaced the tuners with Schaller 5041's, bridge with Super-Vee Bladerunner and pickups with Bare Knuckle "Sinner". After a fret-dressing and set-up, this guitar is a FUCKIN BEAST!! I shit you not, It plays and sounds (almost) as good as my Suhr at 1/8 the price. The luthier that did the fret work was blown away...even offered to buy it!! I'm now a Predator Fan!!

i got one of these in pieces for about 25 USD.... assembled it and after playin it for a few weeks I thought it deserved a new finish (Pearl white)..... fell in love with it and for a long time it was the guitar I had beside my desk in my home office...NOW I have 3 Predators :) For the record: My best Strat is a '86 Charvel Model 3A HH (in Red) among a few Fenders, Jacksons, Peaveys, etc.

StSimonMartyr is it the crafstmanship on them that makes them so great? with all those replacements it doesnt sound like a very good deal, but I mean it'd still beat $1400 by a longshot. I saw one at a pawnshop for under $200, you think it'd be worth it? it's an american series

No man it would be a waste of your money buy an Indonesian or Chinese strat and leave these quality Peaveys to me. ..lol. no brother just joking yes please guitars are incredibly smoking for the money all you have to do is play an American-made Peavey right beside an American-made Strat and you'll see.
@NJackDunkley13 жыл бұрын
Hi I think it was a 1996, I got from a guy who hd bought it for his son and it went unused stowed away in a cupboard for years. These predators are a really sturdy build and hold up to MIM and squiers very well indeed. You can pick em up anywhere between £50 to £150.00.
@Salieri47Ай бұрын
Yes, I can see this vid is 12 years old. Nice playing, makes me want to get my USA Predator out for some noodling around (my playing sucks). I don't remember my neck PUP being that seriously bright. Something to note: People have posted that Peavey installed pre-loaded pickguards imported from China or Korea, wherever. Another example of handcrafted (made) in the USA actually meaning assembled in the USA?
@NJackDunkleyАй бұрын
@@Salieri47 I think that’s right ‘assembled in USA’ to be honest two bits of wood bolted together a strat is a strat and after decades wood is dry, light and stable but fit and finish poor. Sounds like strat, looks like a strat.

Totally agree with NJack on this one. I've had this same model Predator for about 15 years now and it's an amazing guitar. Well built and sturdy. I've replaced the tuners, tremolo, and pickups and I guarantee my Peavey would hold up to any of the lower end American Strats and definitely blow MIM strats out of the water. Great video and demo!

Peavey predator usa models are awesome. The earlier ones are better but the later ones were great too! Either one is available for under $200 on ebay and smoke any guitar ive played that wasnt custom shop. I happen to love the original pickups and love cermaic single coils in general. You get a good clean tone but it has some bite and life to it, unlike alnico which sound a lil warm and muddy to me. I love a good single coil with some bite to it and some life to it...

This is the ultimate guitar for a learner, the neck is so easy to wrap your playing hand around and the action is very light. I have moved onto a fender jag but still love this thing, anyone have any tips on how to go about modding it? What hardware goes best into it?
@motherlovinsnuffstar10 жыл бұрын
I've seen guys swap in Wilkinson trems and Sperzel locking tuners into them for increased tunic stability. When swapping in a set of tuners into these guitars I believe you have to enlarge the holes in the headstock though. You can also use strat pick guards although you have to add a few holes to the body. The body itself is routed in the bridge position with a cavity large enough that a humbucker can be swapped in given you have the appropriate pick guard.

I have 3 Predators. Love the necks. Toss the tuners and pickups, and they become great guitars. Even the bridges are fine if you set them up right.
@sentimentalsunflowers565011 жыл бұрын
You guys obviously don't have the 1980s peavey predator that I have which was THE best time period for the peavey predators. Mine plays amazing, everything is worn out due to the years of playing. This was when peavey was taking note on how fender makes stratocasters and they copied them greatly. my peavey predator logo was in fancy cursive and the headstock is a bit smaller but exactly the same. most of you guys probably have the late 1995-2000 predators that weren't as good.
@Mr911Medic12 жыл бұрын
That's entirely possible, there's always that bad apple in the bunch...and I think the red Poly finish on it didn't help, made it look cheap too. However, I will keep my eyes open for another and give it a second chance to make a 1st impression!! But made in USA is NO guarantee the guitar will be superior to an overseas model. Case in point...the PRS SE line. AMAZING fit-n-finish. I think their QC is the best of all the imports!! I'd rather own a Chinese PRS than a USA Fender Strat.

Why start out making a bunch of racket with distortion on the guitar? Start out with a clean sound, then work your way into the noisy stuff. The distortion hides the sound of the pickup. Clean, is the best demonstration of how the pickup sounds.

Predators are NOT a desirable axe within the guitar community, which is why you can get one for under $100. I've played one and was disappointed, it felt and played like an entry-level Chinese guitar, not USA made. Now if you can find a Peavey USA Odyssey for under $400...GRAB IT!! I'm talkin the original '90-'94...NOT that gay PDX model. Best guitar Peavey ever manufactured IMHO (behind the EVH Wolfgang Standard). Fantastic build quality, superb tone...and the tops on them are SWEET!!

I found one of these in an abandoned storage unit. It was dead-mint...looked like it had never been played. After an exhaustive web search I discovered the Peavey Predator is a guitar where "Made in USA" means absolutely...SHIT!! The thing is worth about $50. So bummed!!
