@tufty19903 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinion perhaps: I completely agree with Ian Lewis I don't think it was handled particularly gracefully but I really can't stand it on Robot Wars or Battlebots when teams go in for hits with destructive weapons after the opponent has been defeated. It is just creating work and expense for people for no benefit. These roboteers don't get rebates or cash to keep putting their expensive machines in a show that makes the producers a lot of money. I'll caveat this immediately by saying I don't think the Pussycat team were malicious, destructive weapons were still very new at this point, etiquette wasn't clear, the Captain was clearly a very excitable guy and the other two were obviously extremely young, I think they got a little carried away on the emotion of defeating such a legend. Despite the vengeance match in extreme and all that I think it's notable that they never attacked a robot after it was immobilized again after this. People saying it's hypocritical of Razer, well I disagree there too, I never recall them laying into a robot after they'd been counted out, according to those involved Milly asked them to go easy on their delicate electronics so they took the cheap wheels off. Just my opinion
@cr100012 жыл бұрын
Yet the house robots completely smash up *some* poor immobilised robots (but not all). What Pussycat did to Razer was nothing compared to what the house thugbots did to Atomic in the previous heat. Yet the owners of those wrecked bots seem to be required to just accept that their bots will get trashed by the house thugs. And in fact some of that damage to Razer was done by the house thugbots. Of course it is becoming very apparent that what JP blathers on about, and the edited version we see, may or may not bear much resemblance to reality...
@tufty19902 жыл бұрын
@@cr10001 Oh I agree completely, some of the damage the House Robots do is well beyond the pail and hardly encourages people to get involved. Like you say there's a lot of picking and choosing who gets pitted immediately and who suffers the fate of all the house robots going at it for three or four minutes. I much preferred the detached vibe of the House Robots in the reboot. They were deadly, they attacked when being utilized as a hazard but there was no five minutes of house robots wailing on and completely destroying peoples hard work when their machine was already beaten. Much more like a proper sport/tournament.
@cr100012 жыл бұрын
@@tufty1990 I agree. I think (in the original series) the producers tried to establish the house robots as 'personalities', with kids holding up banners for 'Sir Killalot' etc. The problem with that is, who wants be a fan of a bully? - a bot that weighs twice as much as the ones it's attacking, only picks on damaged or disabled ones, and is part of a gang of heavyweight bots? That offends all notions of 'fairness'.
@tufty19902 жыл бұрын
@@cr10001 That is a very interesting view, and also completely mirroring bullying behaviour was the development. In the really early series it didn't seem that much of a problem, the house robots damaged armour with a slice or an axe hole, the expensive stuff generally survives, later on it really was pummeling them into nothing, destroying sensitive electronics, breaking beyond repair a years worth of work. It didn't seem to occur to them at all that people might be interested in seeing actual robot combat as a sport. I'd much rather watch a battle that turns out to be a bit dull than chucking in the bully bots as you say to 'liven it up'
@cr100012 жыл бұрын
@@tufty1990 Indeed. I think the producers were more in mind of 'Roman Coliseum' than 'Olympic Games'. I must admit I don't like Razer, simply because its form of attack is so slow (once it gets a grip) but so inescapable. It's rather horrible. Other destructo-bots (if I can call them that) like Hypno-Disc or Carbide (or Pussycat) come in, do devastating damage with one blow, and retreat again. Even if they attack again, it's brief. However, unlike the house bots, Razer is subject to the same rules and limitations as the other competing bots, so I can't legitimately claim their design is 'unfair' in any way. Also, I wasn't aware, watching, that Razer ever limited their damage. If so, that makes me dislike their bot rather less. Watching Razer slowly dissect Milly-Ann-Bug was like watching a kid pulling the wings off a fly, and of course JP's appalling commentary and the editing just encouraged that impression. Maybe I should reserve my ire for JP rathwer than Ian Lewis :)

Ah good, lets have the same old arguments from 1999 all over again Lets face it, Pussycat did what it did because they didn't like the razer team and wanted to stick it to them They probably got caught up in the heat of the moment and thought they were creating another Hypnodisc vs Robogeddon moment. the razer team would traditionally meet their opponents before the fight, look over their robot, find out where the expensive bits were and agree to avoid them. If Pussycat entered into an agreement then reneged on it after Razer were already immobile, didier pironi style, well that's a bit weak really But ho hum, nearly 20 years ago, that fire has long since burnt itself out ;)
@ryanodonovan94977 жыл бұрын
The reason Pussycat continued to attack Razer in spite of their mutual agreement wasn't because they disliked the Razer team, or because they wanted to equal Hypno-Disc destroying Robogeddon. They simply wanted to make sure Razer was fully immobile as they weren't sure of it immediately. Ian Lewis took offense at this as he thought the Pussycat team thought "fuck it", but he was made aware of the truth later on. In any case, you're right that this feud's been over for many years (if you could even call it a legitimate feud when it was nothing more than a simple misunderstanding on a TV show).
