Tom plays the Roy game with a pretty high heightened awareness of who they are and where he needs to stand in any given situation. I think Tom loves Shiv but he shouldn't.

Shiv loves Tom too - this much is certain. Being with him gains her basically nothing from an outsiders perspective - and her unwillingness to thrown him under the busat the end of season 2 cost her in Logan's eyes for CEO position as it shows she isn't willing to be a killer to do it.

Tom loves Shiv but he trusts Greg more. Tom & Greg are each others confidante & I absolutely love this dynamics of Tom-Greg relationship more than Tom-Shiv.

Tom is emasculated but he has power over Greg since Greg is the lowest member of the family. That's why he likes to f* with Greg. He can't talk shit to Logan or Shiv.

I think Shiv loves Tom, she needs him to support her, to restate her decision, trusts him than any other. But the fact that she thinks she owns him, will never lose him may reason her way of treating Tom. At the end of season 2, when she almost lost Tom, she was freaked out. If Shiv loses Tom, I don’t know what is really left for her.

I really think Tom is gonna be the winner of the whole game. Knows the price of milk. Too rich to be considered an underling like Greg. Not rich enough to be blinded like the Roys. He's right in the middle.

@@cgill914 I think his early venom and bullying of Greg is just him trying to adapt to the ways the Roy's do it. But he's not in a position to bully any Roys so his venom falls to Greg. I think that behavior ends for Tom if he's in a top position.

Shiv's potential was always greater in politics though. The utter lack of movement she's achieved since she abandoned politics is testament to that - Logan just wanted her under his thumb and it cost her since. She's both the worst and best character - because you can see she has potential, but it's been squandered until she returns to the fold of politics.

There was a very telling piece of dialogue between Shiv and Tom, last season if I remember correctly, which has never been discussed further.....something about Tom 'rescuing' Shiv during a particularly difficult time in her life. Anyone wanna guess what that was all about? I assumed it was drug related.

No Kendal is the one with drug addiction, Roman has sexual performance issues and shiv probably has something else. Sarah snook said in interviews that we will see shiv’s cathartic moment in her 20s. That’s it. Maybe something with a failed relationship?

Oh, that’s interesting, I forgot about that. There definitely seems to be an understanding between them. They are not head over heels for each other but they are useful to each other. However, I do think Tom genuinely loves Shiv.

In Tom and Shiv’s relationship, it seems that Tom knows he loves Shiv way more than she loves him, and he seems to be ok with that. I feel like Tom views Shiv as almost like a prize he gets to have and he gets validation from the fact that Shiv is with him.

He does love her, if he didn't he would have just gone along with Shiv's polyamorous marriage path - but he only wanted her. Even then despite her problems with sexual fidelity it's clear that Shiv loves him too. If she didn't Tom would be on the barbecue now and Shiv would be CEO.
