I'm not an obsession fixated fan but Weller deserves heaps of respect not only for his sublime songwriting and guitar playing but also for his dignity and low-profile attitude over the years. Being a Londoner he could rant and rave about how the city has changed but he lets his music do the talking. Those first few albums are classics but even the stuff 10 and 15 years down the line was worthy.

Weller is`nt actually a Londoner he hails from Woking about 25 miles from the city.

Paul Weller is made of granite. He almost smiled here, did you see that? He's great, I love how he gets on with it. I heard that he once angrily confronted a record company guy that he had a problem with by saying "don't fuck with me - I'm from Woking!". Well, if that doesn't scare you, what will?

Get what he means about the type of music you listen to as you get older, I was 13 when I first started listening to the jam and that kind of genre of music, I'm 53 now, and I listen to, mellow, soft rock, some past folk, etc, not deliberately, but I just simply like it now, always listen to the jam though, whatever happens.

Changing Lanes /Changing ‘Styles ‘ /Being eclectic- and coming from pop or having been in it can create a prejudice that can be lifelong - and re change , for example look how pissed the world was when Dylan changed from Folk to Electric 😊 I like Paul Weller and he is ageing music wise just fine . The Celeste duet and the Billy E cover ( What was I made for ) were great recently

I didn't realise he was that well known, let alone liked, in the US. That's good. The Brits that do like him REALLY like him, and when the Jam were in full flow (c. 1980) the band's fans treated him like God, which almost put me off the guy . . . almost. Instead it put me off the sycophants. He's written some shit here and there, sure, but also some utter classics.

+bobst657 the years have gone making some great records.... nothing sad about it, if anything it should be joyful still seeing him at it. One of Britains greatest songwriters up there with Lennon/McCartney, Bowie etc. - in my humble opinion...... how many others have had such a career? not many. Celebrate it & enjoy the music.

Hes far from being illumanti, if he was that clued up when he was young. It is noticeable that since the highs of the (rightly) praised Stanley Road, Weller started believing his own press, being heralded as the Modfather, hanging out with all the young turks and started with this whole "man" rubbish. Heavy Soul being played live at the Southbank - trying to emulate The Beatles. Ever since then he's begun a slow and inevitable decline. And it pains me to say it as a fan since 77 through all his changes. But maybe he needs to drop the sycophants.
