Excellent video. I usually open 1.Nf3 & only use the KIA if Black replies c5, as 2.d4 might lead into the Hedgehog Defense which has a solid reputation at for white often requires long careful maneuvering to have any hope of bringing home the full point. By transposing to a closed Sicilian/KIA structure I switch away from d4 openings to an e4 opening & avoid all the prep of Hedgehog Def aficionados & get a playable game on turf I’m more familiar with. NM Ramirez’s excellent video series on the KIA have been a blessing as they’re always easy to follow and chuck full of positional and tactical pointers. This is one of the very best channels out there for consistent well-made content. Bravo!

I got a chance to play this opening vs a 2900 rated bullet player and he trounced me 10-1 :P, the one game I won was a dirty flag and I was down a piece in that game. He basically premoved the entire game. It was kind of insane. Though Opperwezen usually is :P It is a good setup but I think it is too passive vs 2600+ players on lichess.

only learn these side line opening when you are at least 1200+ (just 8 to 10 move and the idea) and get more serious when you r at 1800+ , if you are not that high as i noticed , you should only play normal opening like italian or something
@allannortje64404 ай бұрын
Learn the Italian, the bishops opening, the two and four knights, and also the traps and tricks like the fried liver, the cotage trap, and the traxxler. After that, learn your pawn structures, and read a endgame book, learn your endgames well, opposition, pawn islands, and how to manuveur your king. Your king becomes a piece when exactly in a game, and also learn your squares, which squares are weak, strong etc. Learn all of your chess tactics, like skewers, pins, x rays, etc. Learn how to outpost your knights, and also learn to calculate all of your pieces each move, and opponent, and move on then to the Vienna opening and also the King and queen gambits. Then move to the scotch, and grandprix . Go on from there write this down I am trying to help you saying you are 800 elo

First of all, I'm not a Grandmaster. But I am a big KIA fan. What i like about the KIA is that not only is it a great opening in its own right, it can also dovetail into other systems, which is important if you play tournaments and your games end up in databases. You might need a White opening repertoire rather than one predictable system. So 1. Nf3 c5....you can go into an English wth 2. c4. After 1. Nf3 d5 you can play 2.c4 and a Reti. Some opponents will hold their centre pawns back so you could play Nf3, g3, Bg2 and in some cases d4 & c4 and have a Catalan. Very flexible - I have noticed some strong players will play 1. Nf3 d6 and go for a e5, f5 (a Philidor Defence like structure) and try and open the f-file for their Rook. I've not had good results against this and so started playing 1. Nf3 d6 and then 2. d4 - don't give them what they want.

4:14 - instead of going c5, would it be dangerous for White if Black did dxe4? This is the sequence i had visualized. 4. Nf3 dxe4 5. dxe4 Nxe4 With this, Black is up with a pawn. If White decides to go Nxe4, then Black can go queen to queen and White loses castling rights. Is dxe4 a good choice?
@NMRobertRamirez2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Two things about that. If they give us a knight for the e4-pawn, we are happy to take it even if it means leaving our king in the center. Likewise, castling is not so crucial once queens are off the board 👍

NM Robert Ramirez is my favorite chess instructor, but something's missing. When you say 3.Nd2, explain why--because us C players don't know why, and knowing why prevents an out-of-order move. The reason is so that if Black plays ...dxe5, White can play dx35 without allowing Black to trade queens.

Great content, Robert! Having played a lot of KIA as white, I found that the most annoying response from Black is to castle queen side. Very hard to crack... Any ideas?

Hello Jiangwei! And thank you 👍Regarding that variation, I just treat it the way I mentioned towards the end of this lesson. Taking on d5 makes the black pieces think twice before castling queenside. And if they still do it, you have a nice set up to attack their king. Hope this makes sense.

Robert, thank you very much. I was wondering if you have any suggestions -- or games to point me to -- for playing the Kings Indian Attack when Black plays a kind of reverse London system, and puts his Bishop on f5.

Hello! I am sure we have had lessons where I have played against it, but I am not sure now. I will let you know if I find it or any games online. With that said, what I do is that I play it the same way I play the King's Indian Defense vs the London. And since I am White I am one tempo ahead. Feel free to check out lesson # 87 and let me know if it helps 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHKVeqWlbKaeha8
