Octopath Traveler - Dreisang the Archmagus Battle Strategy (Recommended lv. 40+)

Octopath Traveler - In order to unlock the powerful Sorcerer job, you need to get past Dreisang the Archmagus first! Thankfully, he is arguably the easiest out of the four secret job shrine bosses, and I highly recommend making him your first target.
Having two clerics with "Reflective Veil" is essential for your success, while making use of the Hunter's "Leghold Trap" ensures your party has the maximum amount of moves before Dreisang can retaliate.
Be sure to use Therion's steal ability to nab a few extra Energizing Pomegranate (M) to help ensure boosted Reflected Veils, turning this battle into a cakewalk.

I'm planning on taking on the rest of the bosses with these series, but I'm wondering how you guys would prefer how we do this: - More use on Divine Skills/Secret Jobs, requiring more EXP/JP grinding? (mind you, we're doing this all on Chapter 2, so no badges are available!) - Bare-bones setups for the purposes of getting the classes as early as possible? Lemme know what you guys think.

In my experience, using Olberic's divine skill with the Battle Tested Blade, Abide and Corrosive Armor can allow him to hit the enemy for around 40,000 damage by the time he's in his early 50 levels. I think these shrine bosses have around 100k HP, or something like that. So this combo rips out nearly half their life bar in one shot!

What about Sealticge's Seduction + Reflective Veil? Easier set up. Have Dancer use Sealticge's Seduction as soon as possible (when the No-Buff Debuff is down) and then have the Cleric (who the Dancer used Sealticge's Seduction on) boost 3 times and then use reflective veil on everyone. Much more reliable IMO.

All he needs to do is use the Dancer's divine skill, Sealticge's Seduction and use it on the cleric, then the cleric can use Reflective Veil on ALL the party members, especially when fully boosted and Dreisang's shield is broken for a total of 12 hits, 24 if you have 2 clerics that you use Sealticge's Seduction on. He has to make sure that all of his party members' BP are nearly full most of the time. The thief skill, Armor Corrosive is good too, it would help greatly against Dreisang's weaknesses and for when his shield is broken. Keep Leghold Trap within the strategy and you should be good to go

I used Therion the apothecary, H'aanit the warrior, Cyrus the merchant, and Ophilia the dancer and breezed this boss quite easily at level 45/46ish. Thought I only had 1 cleric (Ophilia) who keep every one healed aside from the time he purple stated and tried to wipe my party witch only killed Therion. Thought then I capitalized on that by slamming the boss for approx 7k worth of damage from Last Stand (Apothecary Axe skill) after I rezed Therion at 1 life. I did use reflective veil for some shield breaks but not as much since his weaknesses where lining up perfectly for my party. Thought I like how u said weapon attacks do a little damage when i hit the boss for over 12k with Therion Divine and H'aanit Divine (Max boosted) after i broke him.

I used Primrose as a cleric and spammed reflective veil with the divine skill buff on her, after i got rekted by him the first time i tried. And leghold trap is a GOD ABILITY with saving grace, it saved me so many times with this boss and everyone else afterward.

I fought Dreisang with Ophilia merchant, Cyrus cleric, Tressa hunter and Therion dancer all below lv50 (I think they were 45-46 and Therion was 41). I didn't even use Reflective Veil all that much, only in the beginning of the fight. Then I just gave BP to Ophilia and Cyrus, used Auspicies on Cyrus with Ophilia (he had passive that prolonged all status effects casted on him) and just broke Dreisang with Cyrus and somitemes Tressa (Bow, Light and Dark stage of the fight) and Therion. Auspicies are VERY helpful even when using cleric skills as Cyrus. It was really easy fight because Dreisang couldn't attack me more than once per turn (and that was right after the break after which I was breaking him again). I hope this can help someone. I really liked that party setup. Planning to go to Runelord next with this party.

The only thing I did differently is waiting an extra turn for the first break (Dreisang starts with attack. Also the no boost wears out sooner and using sealticge's seduction on 1 cleric instead of 2. This means you can have 4-5 reflections meaning damage is minimal but healing grape bunches work for that. My party was: Olberic - Hunter - Level 42, mainly for breaks and occasional Brand's Thunders Cyrus - Cleric - Level 41, mainly for reflective veil and some breaks Therion - Apothecary - Level 39, mainly for breaks Primrose - Merchant - Level 39, the true MVP. Donate BP and Sealticge's Seduction were the main things which helped.

LOL Yup! It's crazy how easily you can take on these (formerly) seemingly impossible bosses far below the level. However, seeing as the JP grind takes longer then EXP grinds, I decided to recommend a ballpark 40 since there's a good chance you'll be at that level by the time you have the support skills/active skills needed.

Wouldn't this be much easier to facilitate this with Alfyn's Concoct and someone with Sealticge's Seduction? Pomegranate Panacea giving 2 BP to everyone would make it much easier to get BP to both the Cleric and the Dancer, at which point the Cleric can get the Sealticge's Seduction and just spread a 3 BP boosted Reflective Veil with much less setup. Honestly, Alfyn can enable a lot of cheap, easy tactics because Concoct is ridiculously powerful. Maybe he can be a focused on a bit in future vids?

i used olberic hunter (which i use all the time anyways) for leghole trap (honestly as just as much mvp-skil as reflective veil) breaking, and using Brands thunder every time i broke this guy Tressa Apothecary for extra heals and the BP for breaks and skills Cyrus cleric for magic damage cover, main heals, and reflective veil primrose thief for dagger coverage, (a little extra sword was nice too) Lion Dance (for brand's thunder) and armor corrosive (also for brand's thunder) essentially i had 3 supports and buffed the ever loving crap out of Brand's thunder's damage output when possible and was perfectly fine never used sealticge's seduction. just never considered using it. didnt think it would work for reflective veil like i see people suggest since it specifically says its for skills used on foes" while reflective veil is a buff on allies if i managed to ave corrosive o him and give olberic lion dance. i was hitting about 30k each time. but i had olberic a bit over-leveled for this even so with reflective veil reflecting damage, and leghole trap giving me ampt time to break and set up all the time, i think even level 40 olberic would be fine

Easy strategy for this one, two clerics (one for actual healing) a dancer and alfyn. Use alfyns concoctions to keep everyones bp full, use the dancer to cast sealticges seduction on your cleric who can than put up to 4 reflective veils on each character per turn if you are keeping their bp stocked with alfyns concoctions. Dreisang is entirely magic based so each of his attacks should bounce back on him 3 times per character for about 1300 each. Once you start stacking reflective veils youve won. The hardest part will be surviving that first debuff that wont allow you to buff your characters. Once you get your first set of 3 reflective veils up it should be an easy ko with a steady supply of veils.

Using the Reflect Veil strategy helped me take down Ophelia's final boss. But I can't get it to work for the Sorcerer. As soon as the fight started, he launched right into nullifying my support skills!

I had Tressa (Hunter), Cyrus (Cleric), H'aanit (Warrior) and Alfyn (Merchant). I had Leghold Trap on both Tressa and H'aanit, and I had a few Ruinous Seeds and a lot of Injuring ones for Alfyn. I always made sure I use Leghold Trap, and then I would have time to break his shield or most of it. I had Saving Grace on Cyrus, which combined with a Purfiying Seed and an Essence of Grape from Alfyn, gave him 9999 health, which is EXTREMELY useful, since Cyrus has very low HP (works with Ophilia as well). I eventually went on with this simple strategy, and I won. Not the best strategy, and Tressa was LVL 56 with others being LVL 48, but it works. Sorcerer on Cyrus looks AMAZING.

pro tip (not really) if the rightmost weakness of ann enemy is fire, you know the remaining weaknesses are physical, because fire is always leftmost out of the elemental. similarly, you can rule out potential weaknesses by the leftmost

I beat this guy at lv 45 by constantly putting up reflects with Cyrus and Ophilia. I had Tressa and Primrose as a Merchant, and used them to multihit with hired help. Since there will always be at least one hired help option that he is weak to at a time. Of course, this was due to me always sticking with my favorite characters, instead of optimal builds, so I had to find a way to make them work. But, I did have a similar mindset of reflecting, and breaking as quickly as possible. They only difference is that I had sub apothecary on Tressa so I could poison the boss through the whole fight. My favorite was when he was weak to daggers, because the Dancer Hired Help was able to take care of the poisoning for me.

I find that using the dancer's Sealticge's Seduction with the elemental def up from the cleric is actually better, efficiency wise. With a max boosted veil you only get 4 reflects as compared to 9 turns of elemental def up. Elemental def up also increases heal power of your clerics as well, on a saving grace team its all you need.

Not even close. If you do it right, you won't even need to heal. If you keep breaking him, he'll keep attacking only once every two turns. Keeping 3 veils on everyone is super easy. In addition, you are also damaging him in as well (speeding up the fight). (Bonus: if you are lucky, you can immediately break him with his own attack.)

i did something different. i made tressa with cleric subclass equiped with high magic def items (with SP Saver and Second Wind) she's basically unkillable and let alfyn(with scholar subclass) poison the sh*t out of Dreisang, basically my tressa becomes a fountain of life/ resurrection whenever the boss kills my other party members.. it may take a little bit longer but poison really killed the archmage. lol

This may be one year old, but I had to wait for the PC release, Undervalueing alfric auspices is a big mistake in this fight, if you use it on the merchant you can generate incredible amounts of bp, let a dancer cast hus ultimate ability on the cleric, which then spams reflective veil and getting bp from the merchant, a fully boosted reflective veil will gibe 4 reflects on euch character, he will almost never hit you with his elemental attacks this way, all that for aelphric auspices on a merchant

Alfyn instead of Cyrus could Heal party BP with Purifying Dust + Essence of Pom Gives everyone 2 BP... Using it on turn 1 should allow you to Reflective Vale Earlier... you want to boost Alfyn's Speed as high as possible...

I beat this guy at Lv.40 by cheesing it with Super Healer Cleric Alfyn. Keep H’aanit alive by buffing Elem. Def. and Elem. Reflects. Do Leghold then revive and smash.

Sealticge's Seduction is very useful for this fight, yes. The problem with giving everyone "Saving Grace" is that you consume a lot of JP, but I'll need it just in case any mistakes are made. But I wanted to set up the party in such a way that there's a minimal JP grind, but people already have Primrose's dancer skills maxed out, then they should totally go for it!

you get the Cleric sub job shrine, then spend JP to unlock the Passive skill on each of your party members. You can still change back to other sub jobs and keep Saving Grace. Late game, another good one is Warrior's Surpassing Power, which lets your heavy hitters break the damage cap of 9999.

You can buy one from an old shopkeeper in Stonegard Valleys for 6,000 (or stolen). A second one can be found from an NPC in the Atlasdam palace, but you may have to progress Cyrus' story first.
