No.108 Trains Around Werrington Junction 3rd to 10th October 2023

A few workings from Cock Lane and Hurn Road with a rare visit to Foxcovert Road where the lineside vegetation is getting worse around the footbridge. We see a VolkerRail tamper plying the Joint Line on route learning duties and 66589 also being used for route learning on the Stamford Line. At Cock Lane we see Network Rail's repurposed class 153's converted to video inspection units for checking track and switches. Vintage Trains 7029 Clun Castle on a day tour from Kings Cross to Lincoln puts on a spirited display on its return journey via the ECML passing Hurn Road. One has to wonder how the Castle would have performed had it been given the Up Fast down Stoke Bank instead of the Up Slow.
The Rail Head Treatment Train is out and about, although rather premature in my opinion as the leaves are still on the trees. Whilst this years good weather still prevails we see the farmers busy sowing next years crops all aided by GPS these days and the old wily fox prowling the four foot at Hurn Road with no high vis. He doesn't care though, he's just looking for a place to take an afternoon nap and chooses a nice warm spot just feet away from those noisy trains.

Ah, that was good. I often wondered if anyone watches the whole video from end to end.😄 Is that a good working to be on compared to containers?

@@werringtonjunction It’s something different which is good, going to Skegness and working in and out of Sleaford station in various directions. It’s just a bit boring at times, particularly in some sections where we are required to spray at a slower speed than line/train speed. For instance between Bessacarr Jn and Gainsborough we have to spray at 40 mph, train speed is 60 and line speed for freight is 70 most of the way so it just feels you are getting nowhere fast. And heading towards Boston and Skegness the speed limit for freight is basically 35 from Sleaford to Firsby, then 25 from Firsby curve, short burst of 50 after Wainfleet, but spraying speed is max 40. So don’t mind doing it for a change, but after 4 days on it like this week you’re ready to let someone else have a turn.

@@S2RUF I guees it does become monotonous doing the same route day after day, although at those slower speeds you do get to view the lovely Lincolnshire countryside.😄 I did turn around and view your train going off towards Werrington Junction straight into the sun. Although the jetting is directed downwards I was amazed how the whole train gets enveloped in the overspray and outwards too as far as the opposite line, something you don't usually see under normal lighting.
