They are chronically cheap with their IP. They want the biggest squeeze for the lowest possible investment, which is good as far as profit goes but ultimately ends up making some really, really bad slop. Hammer and Bolter for example was terrible.

@draketheduelist2 сағат бұрын
No. TTS was a labor of love, willing to take 40k as it was and poke fun at it, which GW would never allow, lest it affect their bottom line. What made TTS so good was that Alfa was one of _us,_ and it showed. He saw 40k as we did. As we were _allowed_ to. If he became one of them, it wouldn't be the same. Plus, y'know... the Emperor is literally canonically dead, so how _could_ TTS continue?

Hammer & Bolter has to be one of the saddest pieces of animation out there. I'd take a 2007 KZbin animation made in Paint over it.

What I hate the most that inspite how many official "Astartess wannabe" animations we have, none of it is about "Loyal Marine vs Traitor Marine" Seriously its just the marines vs anything horde-like usually but not their freakin' counterpart, it feels like playing DMC 3 without Vergil boss fights

If you’ve read the space wolves novels then you realize that some space marines infact do act exactly like the secret level marines, particularly space wolves and other more individual chapters like the Black Templars. And if I recall correctly the Tyranids did back off and run from Gabriel Seth when he went full black rage mode on em.
@RecoveringLoLAddictСағат бұрын
It's more of a Ultramarines problem, GW wants them to be the best of at everything and quirky and relatable. It's sickening. Space Marine 2 teammates are Black rage Ultramarine and Leandros 2 Electric Boogaloo. I really disliked how bland and uninspired they were, which is quite the recurring trend with every single primaris character.

I have been saying this exact thing. I did enjoy the secret level episode, however the constant posing and playing to the camera felt wrong to me. This is why I constantly say Astartes was better. The presentation of the marines felt cold, calculated, like forces of nature unwilling to yield. Not like a hollywood action film making sure to do the cool thing for the camera.
@jarlwilliam9932Сағат бұрын
I mean the secret level episode is exactly how certain space marine chapters are described in the novels. For instance in the sixth Ragnar book, Sven slow action walks out of an artillery barrage with a grin on his face as his pack mates whoop and holler and the guardsmen cheer him on. Ragnar who was one of his pack mates and even has an inner monologue about how dumb and cool Sven is and calls him a lucky idiot.
@theRemyLunaСағат бұрын
@jarlwilliam9932 I am certain you could find more evidence of specific chapters or individual marines doing crazy or show off things. However for a mass audience introduction, or even normally would your average astartes act like this? I would venture to say no. And to be fair the space wolves are, in the opinion of many in the imperium, a hairs breadth away from being heretical.

Imagine - a fan animation single handedly boosts the 40k IP more than anything else has done in a long time - with non fans watching it even. Said animation also stays true to the lore and vibe, proving that sticking to the essence of the IP is enough to satisfy fans and bring in new comers. What does GW do with this? Hide everything behind a paywall, technically neuter the artist and continue releasing watered down cinematic that are kinda cool but feel like warcraft or league of legends with 40k skin, rather than actual unique 40K. Gods...

the video shown at 2:00 bothered me with all the flair. as you said with the pauses, it reminds me of jackie chan, how they'd make constant little pauses in the choreography for the sake of the viewer to understand whats happening. which is fine in something so slapstick as jackie chan. but seeing an astartes do that repeatedly just feels gross
@weasel003gaming73 сағат бұрын
From what I understand, Syama Pederson also helped out with Secret Level's "And They Shall Know No Fear", hence why there's a lot of weight with the Astartes and Titus even while they zip around like bats outta Hell, as well a us FINALLY getting a really good representation of some of the shit The Warp fights you, it's imo on-par with Astartes but that's two animations out of however many SINCE Astartes that it feels like we only have two gems and the rest that's mediocre is... fan animations.
@adrianoss.bougas37202 сағат бұрын
i think it is not on par but I do agree the quality comes closes in most departments and you can feel his influence in there. There is however other dumb things like the axe spin etc, a lot of weightless and out of character movements - a lot of chit chat. It is a bit more warcraft than 40k.
@weasel003gaming7Сағат бұрын
@@adrianoss.bougas3720 Not a lot of chapters are like the Retributors, and this time Syama wasn't the only person working on it, so it makes the Retributors stand out a bit more. The whole "weightless" statement feels null, though, as Astartes has a lot of scenes itself where Astartes seems to just practically fly with speed and yet are still called "weighty" because of the movement still giving the feeling thanks to how much effort you get from startup. The only part I'd say where there's "weightlessness" in the Secret Level is where Titus just no-prep jumps like, twice his height to shank the psyker, but that's about it I'd say. There's definitely still much more weight there than every other animation except Astartes, and the bits of flashiness somewhat give a personality of the Astartes outside of the Retributors, which is a very niche pov of The Astartes in all honesty, given that they don't even have paint on their armor aside from the absolute necessary bits to signify rank.

Bro, WH40K supposed to be cheesy. You want tactical marines doing tactical shit being serious and tactical - go HALO. Warhammer is about everything turned to 12. We have a guy who's angry all the time, and his name is Angron. Really serious shit here, kids.
@draketheduelist2 сағат бұрын
While the grimdark thing is a lot more subjective (and occasionally even situational; some factions clearly get to be grimmer than others...), this is a point with much better grounding. Primaris are just so... unprofessional. The thing where they pause and mug for the camera is somewhat inevitable for any official GW-licensed product. The _Space Marine 2_ trailer is a literal ad. What GW sees as cool about Space Marines is not what the _fans_ see as cool about Space Marines and, whether out of frustration with the old guard or slowly becoming more and more out of touch and ignorant, GW lost the plot. In particular, they seem to be writing Space Marines as more and more human, probably on some notion that they need to be more relatable. While even in the _good_ lore, Space Marines are a lot more human than they let on, they don't like to _think_ of themselves as human, regardless of their allegiance. Either you're a loyalist and you think of yourself as an incorruptible tool of destruction, or you're a heretic and you think you're some kind of demigod. Too much Thaddeus, not enough Tarkus, if I had to put it succinctly. Perhaps this is inevitable, even didactic, to write Space Marines as these immature children, given most Space Marines alive today are these noob Primaris still draped in shards of their eggshells, but GW was never under any obligation to write them this way in the first place. Space Marines get new marks of power armor all the time, which is all the "Primaris" really needed to be if GW was dead-set on using the design. If you _must_ address it, just make it a Land Raider Crusader thing, where the Ultramarines discovered a new STC of Marine armaments and proliferated the pattern around to other techpriests. There didn't have to be any super-secret project of uber-Marines going on under everyone's noses, only to be doled out to various chapters in the Imperium's greatest hour of need since the Horus Heresy, especially when most chapters should have executed these abominable mutations on the spot. You can _never_ be too careful in this universe.
@jarlwilliam9932Сағат бұрын
I mean they’ve been written this way for a long time, particularly the more individualistic chapters like Space Wolves and Black Templars where personal glory is just as important as the mission itself.
