Thought I'd share this story, in case it helps anyone else experiencing the same issue. Garage replaced my 2007 Outlander radiator for $800+, but I quickly discovered the AC wasn't working when I drove away (in 100+ degree weather). They checked over the car and told me the compressor had failed - which would be another $1K+ to replace. I said it was just TOO coincidental, but they assured me the compressor was no way near the radiator that they'd worked on. I'm not a mechanic, but after watching your videos and doing a little more online self-study, realized that there were things like the high-pressure sensor that connected from the condenser in front of the radiator to the compressor. Something that would stop the compressor clutch from engaging if damaged/unplugged. Returned to the garage and asked them to show me where the high-pressure sensor was on my car. The mechanic reached in past a panel and lifted a wire to discover a disconnected plug at the end! He stared at it for a moment, then turned to look at me sheepishly before plugging it in. Car's ice-cold AC immediately back in action. Glad to have saved myself $1K, and I still don't want to be crawling around cars myself in 100-degree weather, but this was either incompetence or an intentional effort to rip customers off. I'm not sure which is worse.

Very thorough man. Most shops would have just checked freon pressure and if good told the lady "yeah you need a complete compressor assembly" without testing OR looking around for aftermarket clutch kits for her. I can't tell you , even as a man, when I was younger how many different shops would lie or not properly troubleshoot and just throw parts at a problem. That is why I taught myself how to fix cars. Wish you were local I'd use you for some repairs as I am older now, have no lift, and my body is falling apart on me.

I had the exact same scenario in this video on my 1993 Miata except my "refrigerant temperature switch" was bad. I looked into wiring diagrams and the switch was no where to be found. Apparently they come built in the compressors and are non-serviceable. My solution? I cut the power wire in to the switch and the power wire out of the switch and connected them together. First try after that and the A/C clutch kicked on and out the vents came ice cold air. I had the car 3 years prior to this with no A/C and finally got around to looking into it. I can't believe that was all the problem was and that my car still has the original R12 system going strong. Sure one day the consequences of that switch not being in line could come to haunt me, but I would have had to replace the compressor anyway to fix the switch.

Wow, now with voice over? You are getting too professional now on the video editing!! I was expecting the rock music..:-) Finally a Mitsu on the shop, it seems they don't break down often (I own a 2009 Lancer) Or maybe they are not many out there. It's a sahme that the clutch can't be bought separately. Usually Mistu A/C is good as it's a in-house unit made by Mistubishi itself. Carpartking has a new compressor for $380, compared with the $600 that rockauto is selling it for seems a deal

Hi Eric re your comment about the cost of OEM parts. Car manufacturers worked out long ago the most profitable side of the business is spare parts. No money to be made selling cars these days, just slug the buyer when its time for OEM parts. They get you in the end. The rust belt of North America is obviously very profitable! Cheers

Hey dude. Sorry for the randomness... But when it comes to rear drum brakes, I have a 2005 cavalier that one of them went for a good while with metal to metal. I didn't have the money to replace the drum at the time, so i just put new pads on that side. I am pretty sure they have wore down pretty well pretty fast because of that, and wondered, can I just replace the drum on that side and be fine? I know you aren't supposed to for disc brakes, but I have limited knowledge about drums. Likewise should do new pads if they aren't wore all the way? I wont know until i get them off of course, but want to plan ahead. It was such a pain in the ass to get the drum off that last time. Hours. Probably because metal to metal I guess... Thanks

AC seasons haa... better get a denso compressor cheap and high quality. OR a junkyard one but its risky

K Brought a junkyard compressor for my Ford Ranger and when I sold the Ranger, the AC was still cold enough to hang meat in front of the vents. Just don't buy one from a car that was in a front end collision.

Upallnight oh yeah. I do actually advice to look for a low milage junk yard car preferably its life was ended due to a crash. As its compressor will probably be orginal

K I never ever buy denso parts because of the way they treat their employees. I worked there as a temp in 2010 (only way they will hire you in) and have family that still works there. That company completely owns you. They even have rules that dictate the way you behave outside work, and you actually can be terminated for violating them. In fact the entire time I worked there ( I did the required 6 month assignment in order to take the test to be hired) there were 2 lines that worked 7 days a week, 12 to 16 hour shifts with no day off. 6 months with zero days off. That was the seatbelt line and the starter armature line. Most lines including the one I worked on would frequently work 2 to3 weeks straight with some back to back 20 hour days, with most averaging 14 to 16. Now the plant nearest me has recently built many amenities such as a medical center and gym, in order to control their employees further. Now I'm in no way lazy or a chronic complainer. I understand overtime is a part of any job, and that there are rules with any job, but I have never seen more miserable people in a job in my life. And for what? Money? $18 an hour should not require that much sacrifice. I think it takes 5 years to make that even.

Jacksonkellyfreak Welcome to the new world order. And everybody was happy when Regan killed the unions by breaking the Airline Controllers Strike. How happy are they now? America is on a one way ticket to the bottom, unless you're rich in which case life is good, since workers no longer have representation or any power whatsoever.

SATAMAN Schmidt exactly. I actually was in a union and let me tell you, they bent over backwards to keep us happy. Unfortunately the company went under in 2008, but it was great until then. I can't convey how utterly miserable that place is. Rereading my comment just sounds like whining and pissing about a job that I didn't like, but it was far far more than I can put into words. Plus when you have people on shifts like that, you can't expect quality. And if a part fails by so much, on the order of thousandths of an inch, it has to be scrapped and remade. Well, it's a vicious cycle because the more they work the more they get behind, therefore necessitating more overtime. Also they only run 2 shifts on most lines, one on some, and the actual answer I got straight from the head of the plant was that adding a 3rd shift (technically it would be a 2nd shift hour wise) would cut production because of the downtime between shift changes and having to do part checks where you inspect a random part on each line and test it to failure. You could imagine the relief it would bring to these people. In 6 months I knew 3 people who got divorced. And the family member I mentioned? He lives 5 miles away and I only see him a handful of times per year.
