The sun Joe is economical and really brings out a lot. Saves me a lot of work. I never use the catcher with it. But do go over lawn with that catcher because it would fill up too fast on the sun Joe and would have to stop too often. Just like you have shown. This came up Sept 20, 2024 trying to do a full renovation but just did this three weeks ago for overseeding. Your lawn looks so lovely green. Sorry about the tree😢

I have a video request: a compilation by season, with the best steps you've taken, by week, with links, using old videos. Start with autumn. I'm not a video editor, so this may be a huge request. If so, ignore. But it'd be nice to have "1st week of September, I did this. 2nd week of September, I did that." You turned that lawn around from a couple of years ago.

Question I just got a sunjoe and getting ready to do this process so no need to put a top soil. To keep birds eating the seeds. New to lawn and that just what I was told before also with the sun Joe do you just use the wire wheel or blade wheel
@LawnAmateur

I don't put any top soil down but I use to put some peat moss down to cover the seed and help the existing soil out but as of late I just put the seed down and I don't worry about the birds too much they will eat some seed but I usually put down a little more because I know the birds will eat some. You could also buy a statue owl and place it in the yard and they'll keep the birds away also. Yea I only use the wire wheel.

It's 100+ degrees, but should be back to the 80s in a day or so. Just a reminder that summer is still here. I will hopefully do this early September. Btw, the tree is gone and it's sunny back there. 😅

I would recommend cutting the grass down a bit before dethatching. Also, make sure the grass is not wet.

You don’t throw down some fert with your overseeding? Some Phos at least.
@LawnAmateur
@LawnAmateur Жыл бұрын
No I like to wait atleast 7-10 days afterwards, especially for overseeding because the existing grass will eat it up and grow faster than I want it to

Most grass types get thatch
@kingposeidon9362
@kingposeidon9362 Жыл бұрын
Tall fescue does not tend to accumulate thatch. It appears that what he is removing is what is sometims referred to as "debris", which consists of grass clippings, tree debris (twigs, nuts/seeds, mulched leaves), dead grass/weeds, etc. Despite the name of the SunJoe tool, I think that it is really better described as a power rake versus a dethatcher, at least when using the attachment with tines. The scarifier attachment could be used as a true dethatcher (i.e., removing a true thatch layer (not just lawn debris) for those grasses that do tend to accumulate thatch or it could be used as a verticutter, which can be beneficial for rhizomatous or stoloniferous grasses. For tall fescue, after power raking with the tines attachment, I would use the scarifier attachment to dig grooves in the soil to improve the seed-to-soil contact for the overseeding.
