@@axvd2105 Decklists also are by far not optimized. As they said it was a very spontaneaus thing. I think for example the new affinity lists with mox or kci with saga and stuff could be a real problem

It was way too much for me. I agree voice over would have been easier to watch, for me at least. I like having interesting lines explained, but not every single decision on the game. Also, having it cut away made it feel somewhere between a reality TV show and trying to watch Crunchy Roll without paying for the service. No offense to the players or anything, just my thoughts.

as someone who doesn't play modern I think the extra detail really helped me understand what was going through their minds and that gave me a lot more entertainment value than if it was just a couple complicated lines being explained or if it was a brief voiceover during the game

@@regular_ian to be clear, I don't suggest the voiceover explanations to be shorter than what they did. I would just prefer a freezed boardstate screen instead of cutaways to people talking, so I can follow what they are saying more easily.

I think the silent MVPs here were the counterspells, a lot of the broken banned cards are a lot less unfair when you have cheaper interaction. I'd add the pitch elementals to the list as well for how good they are as answers.

Would love to have seen some Uro action, with Mystic Sanctuary, Top, Oko, GitProbe, CCommand, Counterbalance, JTMS, Mental Mistep etc. The artifact angle was cute, but clearly not strong enough. Perhaps next time ask to take a current T1 deck and allow banned cards to improve it as building a deck in 1 hour with no meta is quite hard.

I get that both of these guys are known for playing the kind of decks they came up with here. Still, in a new format, I would go for the fastest combo deck. Unsure whether that's Hogaakvine with Death Rite Shaman, Blazing Infect or Storm, or maybe even KCEggs (I actually think Hypergenesis is quite a safe unban), but I am surely not playing a control deck in an uncertain meta.

I would like to see: No ban list modern VS MH1 and MH2 modern... So you can play any banned card, even if they are in MH1 or MH2, but none of what we can play today of this sets (no ravagan, no elementals, etc). And the other deck can play "normal modern".. Lets see who wins xD

Looking at the modern banlist, they both probably could have played the good cantrips, like ponder and preodain and the delve big card draw spells, treasure cruise and Dig through time, especially without Merktide in the deck. Expressive Iteration might still be better, though 🤔

The rules on casting spells are as follows: declare the spell, declare costs, pay costs (tapping necessary lands, etc). So when you declare the cost of emry, you count the top AND the food token, even though you're sacking the food token, since sacking the food token is step 3. You can see this demonstrated in MTGO especially.

You are allowed to make mana with mana abilities during casting the spell (as opposed to making mana before casting it). Determining the amount of mana you need to pay happens in CR (comprehensive rules) 601.2f. This happens before actually making the mana, which is in CR 601.2g.

Honestly at this point, half of the banlist could be unbanned and Ragavan/DRC/elementals/cascade/EI would still be the best cards in the format. At this point Twin is so far from bannable it's funny, Dig and Cruise are not obviously better to be casting than Murktide Regent, Deathrite would not even the best 1-drop in the format, hypergenesis is just worse than footfalls or living end... Obviously a lot of the cards on the banlist would make the format worse even if they wouldn't be overpowered, but it just goes to show how insane MH2 was.

You could essentially just play Legacy UW miracles in this format. Jace, Top, Ponder, Preordain, Mystic Sanctuary, and miracles. Mental Misstep, Counterspell, and MH2 cards to interact. Seems good.
