It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive KZbin experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...
This time, as we test a 2006 Vauxhall/Opel Corsa C 1.2 Twinport Design, we discover some missing trim, interesting dents and the original radio, talk about my former housemate's car history, find musical equipment in the boot and suggest that my friend buy a new car. Nothing untoward, then...
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

I had one , your assessment is spot on . I would add to the negative list , exposed hand brake cables fray , seat foam in the front seats disintegrates, crank sensor fails , headlights look good on your model ,but the beam produced is no better standard . Saving grace is the 1.2 engine, it is a good match for the car .

Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! Yes, the headlights were surprisingly good on this one. The engine does match the car very well, although not the happiest on the motorway.

Yes, these were extremely popular back in the day, and are still quite common in comparison with other cars of their era. Sadly, this one ended up being scrapped a few months ago...

Great review as always Sir, passed my driving test in one of these back in 2001 so seeing you drive one of these brings back memories.

I do like these because they made the Corsa B more accommodating. They had good engines and the build was good. I actually test drove a 2002 1 litre for my Brother who had just reassembled it after replacing the timing chain tensioners. So the drive was very gentle but the car was very easy to drive and seemed like decent, if very very basic, transport. Can't remember the Trim, might have been Club, lovely pale metallic green. The headlights were very good I remember. One thing I particularly liked was the flying V grille that Vauxhall used at the time. It made all the Vauxhalls look far more distinctive than the Opel's. The Fiesta Mk6 did drive better, its gearbox was smoother and it didn't rust like the Mk4/Mk5 so probably a more enjoyable daily but the Corsa is a very very close second that I would have no problem driving every day. Maintenance and running costs are untouchable for both. The Clio comes closest but will cost a bit more to keep. Indeed, all the European and Japanese options available in this Supermini class would be very interesting No Budget Reviews. 🤔

Yes, we had a Mark VI Fiesta on No Budget Reviews last year. Oh, timing chain problems on the Family 0 engine... The flying V grille came out with the Vectra B, I believe. The Corsa does have extremely low running costs, but it is a false economy to buy one in poor condition.

These are slowly getting rarer Joseph. Not my cup of tea but great video
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, sir! They will start to get rare as they get scrapped due to very low secondhand values. The Corsa Bs have been disappearing relatively quickly too.

I do like this Joseph! The size reminds me of a Chevrolet Aveo or Spark, but this has more rear cargo room. I believe what you stated about the Ecotec engine is similar to the 2.4 litre Ecotec found in certain US GM vehicles. The radio takes me back to the Saturn Astra! I also like the high level taillamps! Thank you for another fantastic review!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the design was quite good for the time. It is a bit bigger than a Spark or an Aveo. Not sure about the 2.4 Ecotec, we didn't get that over here. That is indeed a very similar radio to the Saturn Astra.

This was my second and third car. I had a green Corsa C life brand new 1.0 12v 3 cylinder 3 door with one years insurance back in 2004. I traded it in for a silver grey 2006 Corsa C SXI + 1.4 in 2008 3 door until 2013. Good little cars. Cheaper insurance for first time driver's.

One thing Vauxhall decided to do was to place the ECU on the side of the engine. Not an Ideal place outside with the extremes hot and cold plus moisture!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, my sister passed her test in a 2001 1.0 Expression, and my former housemate had a 2006 1.2 SXI for many years, which I used to use back in the day. That is not a great place to put an ECU, is it? These Corsa Cs are going to start to disappear quite quickly soon due to low values, I think.

Interesting video. I'm the proud owner of a 2004, 1.2 Energy. It's not got the twinport engine so got the original 74bhp unit. It's quite a good spec - including alloys and mines got the original Siemens CD/Radio unit which still works like new. I think it's a great little car. The engine is smooth and nippy and it's totally reliable. Not even a rattle. Mind you, mines only done 18,000 miles since new. I also own a much more recent build Vauxhall and the paintwork and build quality on my 2004 Corsa C is better.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the build quality on these is quite reasonable for the year of the car, especially on this where the mileage is relatively high. The 1.2 pulls pretty well, whether it is the Twinport or not. We also have a number of reviews of more recent Vauxhall models on the channel...

A former work colleague had a Corsa C SXi brand new in period, at the time I had the new facelift Clio 2 on a Y plate in Dynamique trim which was probable equivalent of the SXi. I had a 3 cylinder Corsa C for a few days a a courtesy car and from memory wasn't over keen on it but it was incredibly basic.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, the 1.0 three cylinder! Unless it is absolutely thrashed, no real progress can be made, and it comes in very, very low trims.

Just Subscribed...I don't do modern as i think modern cars are boring and had nothing but problems with the only modern i had witch was a 14 plate Insignia. My current daily is a 51 plate 1.8 Rover 45 1.8 auto connoisseur saloon..Im' a huge Rover fan and due to needing to have an auto due to a shoulder injury means i had to sell my other two old rovers this year a 1994 414SLi R8 and a 1989 213s SD3....but i'm looking for another auto classic rover to go with the 45

Thank you for subscribing, Lee! As my job involves sourcing cars for people, we have a variety of modern cars as well as classic ones on the channel, and if you look at the most popular videos, you will see that they are a real mixture, which is the way we like it. Many people only have interest in one or the other, though, which is fine. I have owned eight post 1990 Rovers, including our current 2003 45 V6 Connoisseur, which is now a very rare car with only around 70 left taxed on the road. I have also owned two R8s (both 216 SLi Automatics, one a 1991 and one a 1996) and I have driven an SD3 on the channel earlier this year. We have reviews of virtually every Rover on this channel from the SD3 onwards, so I think you may be in the right place! I have done four 45 and ZS reviews alone, and we have two more classic Rovers coming up next week.

Believe it or not, the Holden Barina version won the Australian Wheels magazine Car of the Year Award in 2001... The shape was around for a relatively long time. Great choice! Yes, we had them in New Zealand. Haven't seen one for a while though.

@@alaricbragg7843 , the exchange rate was unfavourable, I think, and it cost a lot to import this generation of Barina, so they switched to the Chevrolet Aveo based one, which was much worse, but it was cheaper!
