I have followed you two for several years.. I am in New Zealand and want to say I have taken onboard in what you have filmed. You are heading into spring and we are heading into autumn. We have only been on this property for 2yrs and following you our produce is so successful we could feed communities. All back to listening.. thank you deeply for inspiring us.

During the summer months, we always have to pick our veggies before the bugs get them. We have to pick the tomatoes green, pick the corn early before the worms set in, etc. This is a great way to winter garden and avoid the bugs!

Randy Ranchero We have to pick early too because of bugs. Never thought to do this during the winter!

I love looking at your super-healthy, black soil! Awesome! Here in Florida, we had major weed pressure - I almost lost a great deal of my Fall/Winter garden this year. I did a little research and bought a wheel hoe from Hoss Tools - If you don't have one, you need one! They're amazing!

I'm kicking myself so hard for not planting a lot for a winter garden. I was burnt out and only got some radishes in the ground. I was itching for fresh greens this whole winter. ETA: If any of those weeds are chickweed, pig weed, or dandelion, just throw those in the soup pot! Free nutritious veggies from God! Also, maybe just throw mulch on top of the weeds? Wayyyy easier I found last year instead of tediously weeding. Plus it'll insulate and feed the plants you want.

I bet much of those weeds were chickweed. I wonder if that’s how it got its name; fresh greens for the chickens in the spring because it grows all winter.
@gelwood995 жыл бұрын
Many people eats it but I choose to give it to my chickens for fresh greens after the long winter. Mine are now coming up strong! I personally do not like to eat chickweed but man it grows like crazy and chickens sure do gobble it up!

Low tunnels work great starting the season early or extending the season but once I have 6ft of snow on the ground, they're useless!

I live in AZ.. working on starting a garden.. I noticed that if I worked to protect my tomato plants from the few weeks of frost they stayed Alice and now are producing tomatoes (it's early march). I'm planting a few other things.. but you've got me thinking of how to farm during next winter.. dealing with the excessive heat in summer will be my issue. I think I could possibly have a fall, winter, spring growing.. with a short break for deadly summer heat.. curious if you have any advice?

Winter gardening . . . a hidden secret for sure. We live in northern British Columbia, Canada. The First Nations translation of my town is 'People of the Snow'. That gives an idea of winter gardening for us. But . . we're happy that y'all can get away with it !!!
@PartTimePermies5 жыл бұрын
We winter garden in Michigan, but we have to use plastic for the tunnels rather than agrabond as the snow shreds the agrabond. We get more sunlight in the winter in our area than southern France (latitude 42), though we get more snow. The extra sun helps more than the snow hinders anything.
@LDH20905 жыл бұрын
What about getting some greenhouses or poly tunnels. They would definitely last longer.
@sweetolyve5 жыл бұрын
What all did you grow in winter under there? We live in a climate where we don't really need those in the winter and I'm wondering if you can grow what we grow here in the south. Things such as turnips, collards, spinach, carrots, celery, beets, and other leafy greens.
