Awesome guys. I mentioned an exhaust fan for the cooling in the summer. You could probably use a box fan hanging from the ceiling pointed at the vents furthest from the house. As for germination problems the tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, yellow squash, and zucchini its probably the cooler temps at night. They need to be warm to germinate. I say this only to try and help. Coming from someone who spent my first 24 years of life on a large farm with included greenhouses and still involved in gardening and farming now that I had to leave the farm for a public job for the last 13 years. You guys are awesome. Hope that helps.

Happy you explained it took time to get things together for your garden beds, greenhouse ect... You didn't do it all at once. People need to hear you don't have to go bankrupt buying all this stuff up front. I love what y'all have done on your farm/homestead.

To increase your germination rates, try soaking your seeds overnight before planting, spritzing with hydrogen peroxide immediately before planting to remove any fungi or mould spores...

I love my small green house. That you can grow what you love. The best thing about it is that you can have most of your garden planted. Instant garden for the win.

I think you need to cover the 'big seeds ' with soil/compost/potting mix for them to germinate well ( squashes, calendulas, sunfllowers...) + I haave never had much luck with cardboard pots either.

I never had good luck with the compostable pots. They wicked the water out of the soil so I'd have to water more and then I'd end up overwatering.
@doggiemommi224 жыл бұрын
I find with the compostable planters they dry so fast that the germination rate is much lower, or if you keep it lightly moist in they'll get moldy. More success with the soil blocks or reusable humidity dome trays.

Be sure to rip off the top edge of those peat pots when you transplant as if you don’t the peat will wick moisture away from the plant. You might want to try New Zealand spinach as it loves the heat, doesn’t bolt, tastes great, not gritty and the more it’s pinched the more it branches. It can be cooked like spinach or used raw in salads we like it better than regular spinach and is great to replace lettuce.

I wonder if your germination rate could be from using old seeds? I’ve read that the viability rate drops FAST from one year to the next in some things.... several of your starts looked to be lush and full. I’ve not heard of the lemon gem marigolds... I’ll have to look for them..

Can you germinate in your own soil? Have you ever had success making your own potting soil with peat/coco core? you have so much fertilizer going on there that i would think could save you even more. Worm Castings? Im only on my 2nd year so still learning.
