Creative maneuver...The fix of course is to monitor 5v ref at ecm and disconnect associated sensors one by one until 5v ref returns and you have then identified which sensor is bringing down the 5v ref... P.S. I learned the hard way thinking pcm had internal 5v regulator problem, fortunately, the pcm was not costly but lesson learned.

@@debramartin9396 my pcm was $500 at the auto parts store then it was $200 to have it flashed. The pcm's you are seeing online most likely are cheap knock offs and still have to be flashed with the programming.
@DavidGuns2 жыл бұрын
@Jack miller that's no true, the PCM/ECU sold online from websites are rebuilt. These Dodges are known for the circuit boards to crack and sometimes when a cold start they will start and run till they warm up, then the heat from the engine heats up the circuit board and opens the crack causing the engine to die and no bus. There are many great companies that do a great job rebuilding these, flashing them for you when you give them your vin and mileage. The place I been using for years gives me a lifetime warranty on these and cost range from $150 up to $350. I have had to many problems with Cardone ones with flashing them, lasting less then a year.

Parents gave me their old 2000 Durango, only 138K miles. Drove it about 4 months, then the problems started.....Been a lawn ornament since March. Started to randomly shut off, no error/codes while driving-no matter if it's highway, at idle, just driving through town. Just tried something else out on it, thinking something to do with oil pressure, and just got that no bus code when it shut off again. Hate to junk the car, it's pristine looks wise interior/exterior, drives great-when it does. But thinking just not worth it to toss money in any chrysler product.

@@Christy.1 have you done anything with it since your last comment?
@Christy.14 жыл бұрын
@@patrickwayne3701 Yep done lots lol. So much for a free vehicle....The issue above was the PCM. I picked one up on ebay from a place called Flashmasters, was $200. They have a shop in Ohio. Very easy to install, disconnect battery, 3 plugs on the PCM. Did that, about month and half ago. Then I found out my radiator was leaking on the bottom so wasn't able to test out the PCM initially. Then thermostat needed replaced. Finally, I've been driving it all over/regularly now about 3 weeks. And knock on wood, no issues. Also, I replaced the ignition coil too just prior to breaking down and buying the PCM hoping it was just that. The guy that does most of the work on my car has a '99 Durango. He cut & bent a license plate and curved it around to protect the ignition coil from the heat from the exhaust manifold since it's right there behind it. Owner of the shop gave me some, not sure what it's called, but some stuff steel factory uses on their furnaces. Can withstand super heat, it's like a weird cotton-type thing. As for PCM's, if that's what you're looking at, from my researching around a lot of places for whatever reason are having lots of customer complaint issues. Parts not working, can't get a hold of people to replace, not honoring warranties, ridiculous restock fees, etc. So check out reviews and BBB where ever you buy from. The reviews on ebay on that one I chose were all good.

Okay so let me get this straight , you chose a 5 v wire on anything that carries it in other words a wire on one of the sensors ? So you used a USB cigarette lighter adapter cause its output thru USB is 5 v ? And even if you have a short in the 5 v line somewhere , it will bypass it ? If so that is fantastic!! I subscribed cause that's the type of intelligence I need to learn from.

My 2016 Jeep Patriot had a accident about a year ago it supposedly caused the TIPM to need to be replaced which the Jeep Dealership said they replaced but within 3 weeks after they replaced the Tipm all my lights on the dash started lighting up periodically almost like a Christmas tree...and I started receiving the no bus message where the mileage is read when I took the vehicle back to the dealership they told me to replace the battery which I did with a brand new one from there at the dealership it drove fine for a week and then everything started happening AGAIN.. when I returned to the dealership they said basically that my warranty had expired and that there was nothing else they could do to help me unless I wanted to pay out of pocket for a $150 a hr diagnosis and they couldn't estimate how long it would take them to diagnose my vehicle! But I feel that they should cover the diagnosis since they never actually fix the problem while it was under warranty they replaced the tipm when most likely it didn't need it hot.. Is there any way that I can make the dealership fix my problem? Since then my air condition went out I had to replace the fan motor also the lock actuator on the back hatch went out as well as the windshield wiper comes on intermittently by itself they also replace the windshield wiper motor while it was under warranty but it has since then gone out and when I try to turn my windshield wipers on it comes on but whenever I turn it off the windshield wipers park right in the middle of my windshield it doesn't go down like it's supposed to I don't know if all the other problems have to do with the electrical short that my vehicle has but I think it does..... my registration to my vehicle just went out this month but I can't get it registered or inspected because of the engine light constantly staying on do I have any way of making the dealership fix this? Any help or advice that anyone can give me what could be greatly appreciated thank you
@RespectAutoWorks5 жыл бұрын
Rhondavas1977 Sorry to hear about your troubles. It sounds like you may be experiencing a Shorted or Open Circuit from the initial collision. If they claimed that your Warranty is expired in a span of weeks or a month, then I would be skeptical of their policy. You may want to review the original Repair Order/Invoice Disclaimers to make sure their claim is accurate. If you live in CA, then I would advise you to contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). But if you live in another state, then look into any Consumer Affair Agencies relating to the Auto Industry. I understand that Collisions may tend to mess with a great amount of electrical components and may get overwhelming, but they should stand by their word/policy when it comes to diagnosing the source of the original problem. We have had some cases where the Electrical Damage (along with Cosmetic Damage) on a vehicle exceeds the overall value of the vehicle: deemed Total Loss. So you may also want to get in touch with your Insurance to express that the vehicle is still not properly repaired after collision. Thanks for watching, and I hope this info helps!

Problem 6 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Governor Pressure Sensor. Also check your grounds on the heads/firewall and fenders. And lastly as mentioned by the video the PCM may have broken solder joints due to heating and cooling of the main PCB. Not to blame Dodge/Chrysler, this is a pretty common problem with many electronic devices. Any electronics that gets hot then cools is going to flex the main PCB and break the non lead solder that is used in electronics. If you want to take apart and repair the PCM check "Keenan Laws" KZbin videos on repairing the Dodge PCM

Keith S Yes! You should be able to leave it that way if you wish. I believe Amazon sells 12v to 5v Converters to hard-wire into the Harness. Although I would recommend to diagnose the actual issue to prevent any future issues with the bypass. In my case, the scan tool indicated that the IAC was out of range. So I replaced the IAC, and problem was solved. Results may vary, depending on where your short may be located. It’ll either be a defective component, or an actual short in the Wiring Harness. Gary Kovach I would look into checking for Voltage at the Starter Signal when the Key is turned to the Cranking Position. If there’s Battery Voltage, then you Starter may be at fault. If there is no Voltage, then you can suspect Starter Relay, Ignition Switch, Transmission Range Sensor, or possible Aftermarket Alarm. There may also be some items I’m missing... but that’s a good place to start. Hope this helps if you haven’t gotten it figured out yet. Thanks for watching!

Obviously this is temporary. How do you trouble shoot the real cause? My car randomly dies while slowing down and I get the"no bus" error. However, if I wait long enough, it'll start up again. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue right now! Did you ever find anything out?

@@Lvl7Scared yeah I replaced the computer and it solved the problem. I started with a lot of sensors first. Computer was the problem.

This my 2k dodge Dakota,4.7/v8. Just got it out the shop. It was the crank shaft position sensor.
@tyronewalker57643 жыл бұрын
It was the PCM, not the crank shaft position sensor.

What gauge wire did u use. I want to try this out. Thanks. Great video buddy

Paul Vast Thanks! Yeah my quick fix got me back to the shop with a 22g Wire from the USB. Replacing the IACV didn’t repair the loss of 5v from the PCM. I then used a universal 12v-5v Converter from Amazon (16g Wires). Still running til this day without having to replace the PCM (Customer was on a tight budget). 🤷🏾♂️

Respect Auto Works thanks for getting back to me. I got that same no bus code on my 2002 dodge Dakota 4.7L. I’m at the end of my rope for this truck. So I’m about to try this technique or urs. God I hope it works. I’ll keep u posted. Thanks bud.

Thanks so much for this video. But my truck wouldn’t run if I kept it the power plugged in. I had to unplug the power after a few seconds or else it would start sputtering and almost dying but would go back to running normal after I unplugged the usb. If your smart enough to figure this out maybe your smart enough to give a good guess as to my issue.

And now it starts with out the fix?
@RespectAutoWorks6 жыл бұрын
Brian Missens sounds like you may have either an intermittent shorted circuit, or a damaged PCM. The short may either come from the Wiring Harness/engine vibration or a intermittently failed component. It’s best to perform the bypass immediately after the stalling with a scan tool already hooked up. And do not turn the Ignition off or disconnect the battery to prevent PCM memory loss. Hope this helps!

@@RespectAutoWorks I went out try to start it last night and it reverted to the no bus. So this AM I reconnect the fix and tried to start it and now the fix doesn't work

@@RespectAutoWorks I now went out left the fix hooked up and the key on and my scan tool on. And still had a no bus . I went to the pcm and pull on the harness going into the pcm (1st left row ) and I heard the relay click and it started

I have been looking for a wiring schematic for my 2002 Durango and Dakota which, when I went to try this trick on the Durango, which has the No Bus error, the wires are different coloured. The wire that goes to the same pin on the TPS is orange. Would you or anyone know if that is the 5 volt wire into which I should tap to feed 5 volts?

Put engine size also, easier for someone to look it up usually.
