Dear KZbin friends, here are the affiliate links to the plexiglass cubelets and containers that I have purchased for my displays. They are nice and sturdy in my opinion. be careful not to scratch them though since plexiglass is prone to scratches and peel off the protective foil off the surface of the plexiglass before you place them in your vitrine. 🩷 I got one set of containers and one set of cubelets. amzn.to/3xLVbnR amzn.to/4cviAJh

That's a lie. You have websites like Yoox, rue lala, Cettire, etc that sales items for way cheaper. I got a Versace coat from last year for $600 from Cettire and it was going for $1,200 elsewhere so be very smart when looking for whatever piece of clothing it is you are thinking about purchasing. I swear by Cettire and Yoox. I love them! I bought a Dolce and Gabbana sweater I love love love for $280 and the sweater is released again and this time cost $480 so I got lucky and try to catch sales as much as I can! Right now Neiman Marcus is having a good sale on Prada sneakers!

Yes it's really good to put up your bags in a display and then make an effort to use them. I rotate the display so at times I am making an effort to use certain items. When I do this I appreciate the item much more. Also renovating and restoring the leather etc.

Display is everything for designers - they are selling a lifestyle. Curating and rotating your vitrines will give you so much pleasure. There are some designers that specialize selling everything from clothing to home items, and one walks into their stores and it makes you want to live inside the store. Good for you to curate your own items. ❤

Displaying your things helps with the itch, but also go and watch unboxing videos of all your items that you already have and see others being excited about it and y you also fell in love to begin with. The two things helps. Also, avoid those that are addicting to shopping and click off their channel or unsub.

This is SUCH a great tip, and one that I have actually used. I have quite a few bags that I used hardly at all, but then watched a video of someone unboxing or reviewing it, and not only got some ideas about how to style it, but reminded myself of why I loved it enough to buy it in the first place.

Overlooked bags? I try to use them and make a deliberate effort to sort out colours in my wardrobe, fix clothes that need adjustment, and find any gaps in what I need. It could be a white shirt or a pair of jeans, or a particular colour sweater etc etc. Then I have a shopping list which I stick to religiously unless I find another way around it. As a first call I shop the sales and preloved to fill the gaps. If all his doesn't work, then I give them away. I was going to sell my own bags but find gifting much more satisfying than I expected. That way I show the recipient all the features and how to take care of it. This gives an endorphin rush every bit as good as finding a bargain/buying the dream bag/getting something unusual. The other rush is from fixing/colour changing/restoring a vintage bag. I love all of this creativity and appreciating, and especially finding and reworking my own stuff or what others have overlooked. This has been my MO for many years.

The past 2 years i spent the first 6 months of the year on a strict fashion-no-buy (new or pre-loved) and it has been absolutely eye opening. The rest of the year I allow myself a low-buy but i also keep track of everything via a spreadsheet. Total everything up at the end of the year so I can visually see what I bought for accountability. It's been a great way to curb the consumerism but also to see what I actually use, want, or don't ever need to buy again.

I kind of did the same thing for online shopping. I digitally catalogued my entire wardrobe. And when I want to browse, I browse my own wardrobe and put outfits together. Also when I’m tempted to buy eg a pink top, I look up my wardrobe, see I already have 3 pink tops, and I don’t buy it. The display is a great idea. You are NOT crazy. (Or maybe we’re all crazy!). I find it very hard to resist our consumerist culture too.

Thank you for the suggestion. I could not do a no buy, but I have learned to curate what I do buy. I do not buy full bottles anymore. I only buy travel or 30ml bottles. I limit how many of any one type of item (bucket bags, totes, etc). I have a one in one out system to handle the clutter. But we plan to make over our living room. I was dreading it. My other half is not the easiest to work with. But I believe I can swing having a little area to display what makes me happy. I love this idea and am now looking forward to the makeover.

My Ex-Husband is hands down, the King of the no spend challenge!!! He's as tight as a tick and refuses to buy anything, unless it's absolutely desperation time (not food or that stuff). Pants: 40 years old. Shirts: 40 years old, shoes - you name it, he didn't buy it. Another reason for divorce - when your spouse is dressed like an absolute bum - you don't dare want to be seen with him/her. And $ was absolutely no issue.

Yes there is a healing that comes from having all of the items out on display as we can see what we have and feel a certain kind of satisfaction. The way things are merchandised is a massive factor in the desirability of the product when we are shopping. You have inspired me to get my perfumes all sorted and on display as well. You are right-on about viewing your wardrobe and accessories because when they are organized and displayed it is as if you created your own boutique. If you bought it and love it, your closet is basically curated. Once you display all your garments and bits and bobs you can identify things you no longer want to find a new home, and really start to enjoy and wear your items more. I get excited every day about ‘shopping’ from my own closet to make that perfect OOTD♥️🥰

...in my bedroom this very moment while your video is still playing, freeing a beautiful Anselm Reyle for Dior woc from its box ( which it has been in since I bought it a long time ago) and putting it into my vitrine to be seen and admired by me and only me. Feels good!

I think no by trend is related to the economy. I know I don’t have a lot of extra to spend so it feels better to think I’m purposely just not buying.

you'll definitely learn that skipping a season of two of clothing won't hurt because you are going to find better looking clothed for a later season so, you'll look back and thank yourself and ask, what was the point? The point was being materialistic and thinking you needed it when you didn't because something new and cute always comes out with Versace or Prada, Gucci or Louis. Etc!

Creative idea❤ I wonder if to put some warm led lights inside that furniture - it could look even more glamorous, especially in evening light Thanks for Great content 🙌

I have a monthly budget for fun stuff, but over the years the income is going up but the budget is pretty much the same to stop lifestyle inflation. Our wants always exceed our need and actual pay increase, I feel motivated and saving toward future freedom. we can all do it!

This is such an amazing idea. I'm always debating between seeing my bags or keeping them inside their dustbags inside the closet. Sometimes I put them all on the table in front of the couch just so I can see them while I work. It's really funny 😂. I have like 8 bags so it doesn't look that ridiculous. 🤣

Definitely fall into the trap with Hermes scarves . They look soooooo pretty, colourful in the store hang up, but once you bring it home, it’s a different story 😅

I agree, I did this with my bags, I don't have a glass display yet (that's the next step) but I do have a display with each bag in their own cubby. It reminds me everytime I get an inch for a new bag to look at what I already have and in my mind I go over the massive amount of money I spent on the bags in my collection. It helps me to determine if I really need that new bag.

I started feeling this way in 2019. Slowly I've done no buy stretches longer and longer and now I buy nothing at all except to replace anything that has literally, physically worn out. Not for climate, not for cost of living or any external reason, I had just realized that I was surrounded by the clothes, bags, makeup etc., that I was desperate to have when I was young and poor, but I still wasn't happy. If shopping makes someone truly, deeply happy and very content in life, carry on, there's no problem. But if like me anyone is shopping to fill up an otherwise empty or dysfunctional life, or to ignore problems, do consider low / no buy and it will free up some headspace to fix more important parts of life.
