Truth! The church is not a building, it's God's people. I left a church where the pastor said when sharing the gospel don't tell people they are a sinner and using Romans Road is "old school" just tell them your story. Well, we can use our testimony, but we need to back it up with scripture, and the whole point of the gospel is to understand that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and there is One full of grace that stands ready to receive you.

Honestly, when we do lessons at home, it’s a more enjoyable experience of talks leading to other concepts. I honestly don’t know how to feel about that. This was going on in my "church" that I was a member of for several yrs. The "pastor" watered down the sermons to attract new people, but it never fed the long time members. For one thing the "pastor" himself was/isn't qualified to be a pastor. He was a new convert who was quickly selected to be a pastor by the church network founder & never was properly educated and trained. The "pastor" even mentioned the elimination of traditional Christian terms because they were hurdles for new people. This "way of doing church" was carried over into small groups as well. By God's mercy He opened my eyes, realizing I had not grown/matured in the Word because it's the same topics recycled yr after yr. One has to seriously discern what's coming from the pulpit.

Churches are just tax-free businesses 99% of the time. They don't make any money by going out and preaching repentance and faith in Jesus. And if they allowed the Church to have genuine fellowship the charlatans wouldn't be able to fleece them for all they're worth either. So they run it like a theater -- church theater. No one can say anything except the showman on stage.

I'm not sure if I agree with this. Inviting unbelievers to church, they hear the word preached and witness the love of Christ between fellow Christians. The holy spirit is moving in his church. The love Christians have for one another is a witness. I honestly don't think there is a hard and fast rule. God can move in many ways and treats everyone individually.

Wow, that’s really interesting. Earlier this summer, my husband and i attended a church we had only been to a couple of times. They preceded in the parable of the seeds. To us, it seemed like a message for new people. It was so simple and without any meat for those of us who have heard it over and over again. My husband and I said we wished there were churches for new believers, and churches for established believers. However, you have changed my mind!! You’re right. That is NOT the gospel. If a new person, at the end of that message, was invited to be baptized (which they do) they may have done the ritual, but would not be saved or transformed. These people “don’t know what they’re signing up for” of all they’re getting is a watered down message without repentance and redemption. What happens when they later come across a sermon they don’t agree with? Anyhow, great perspective!

Another issue is visitors to the Church taking part in the Lord's Table/Communion without recognizing the seriousness (i.e. inviting divine discipline, sickness or ultimately, death) of taking part in these sacred elements (1 Corinthians 11:27-30). I fellowship at a church in NZ where the teaching is mostly good (as sometimes we have women preach) but the leadership does not mention anything about the importance of taking part in the Lord's Table worthily. I believe the leadership is partly responsible for judgment that falls upon those who take part in these sacred elements improperly.

Thanks for posting this message. Imho, every church service must contain the gospel of Jesus Christ: everyone is separated from God because of our sin, Jesus took on all our sin for us, Jesus actually became sin and therefore paid the price. The price being sent to hell and He conquered death and rose again after three days. He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven. He will return to judge everyone, the believers will enter into heaven the unbelievers He sends to hell. Every sermon must contain that message in some form or another. Remember, God’s people die through lack of knowledge.

You are absolutely correct in everything you say - God Bless You I too have a personal relationship with the Divine through Jesus. I try to be an empty vessel for Him to fill me with the Holy Spirit so I can accomplish whatever He wants me to do. I therefore have no personal ambition except to do whatever I feel He is compelling me to do. I am under continual attack and temptation from Satan, but my general strategy to avoid the evil one is to only do things which require me to make more effort or to suffer in some way, but without expectation of any human recognition or reward. The last words Jesus spoke were 'it is done' and the curtain to the forbidden inner sanctum of the temple was ripped in half meaning that anybody can have direct access to God and Him without any need for anybody to get in your way. The only thing that true believers need to serve their God is to adhere to Jesus teaching as given in Matthew 22:37-40. There should therefore be no such thing as a retired clergyman or bishop.

In the early church people who were learning about the faith were called catechumens. Before they could be baptized, and enter fully into fellowship, they needed to complete their "basic training". And, while we're at it, I am bothered by the fact that so many churches distribute the gospel of John to unbelievers and new believers. That's like giving a book on thermodynamics to a first-grader. John, along with Romans, is the apogee of New Testament theology. Better to give them the gospel of Mark or Luke, which are more direct and comprehensible as introductions to the faith in Jesus.

Interesting. I am going to take my comment in a different direction though, I hope you don't mind. I became a believer completely outside of the church. As a very young child, I had been exposed to church Sunday school etc, but the family stopped going to church for some years. I grew up during the Vietnam war era & in that time, there were protest against conscription etc. Killing people is wrong & I wanted nothing to do with that. In that time, there were protests against the countries involvement in the war. I recall one incident in which a local priest got defrocked for attending a protest rally. I thought that extremely poor that he was defrocked for standing up for the teachings of Jesus. Anyway, I got to thinking about the consequences of unbelief & of faith & decided that I needed to find out if this Jesus was real or not. So I started reading the Gospels because I knew that is where I'd find out about him. I also prayed "If you are real, please reveal yourself to me, that I may believe more." I don't know how to explain it, but he did just that in a relational way, answering my questions about life, salvation, faith & answering my prayers. It was many years before I ever went to church though. I find the church sadly divided & largely missing the point about a personal faith relationship. The whole political orientation thing in churches is just completely wrong. It is an evil idolatry. We cannot serve 2 masters, we cannot serve both a political alliance & God. Just stop it, please just stop this insanity. Politics is of the world & the world is evil. It is the very 1st commandment to worship God & Him alone. Throughout my lifetime, the church has only got worse in this regard, with ever failing attendance. As far as I can see, it deserves to die unless it turns back to God & Him alone.

I do understand what you’re saying here but at the other hand I have some experiences where preachers went into the opposite direction. In my former church I had a preacher whose sermons revolved a lot around trashing the congregation. For example he kept being mad at us who were present there listening expectantly to his message but he kept telling us smthg like this:” you’re all here in the pews thinking about I would rather be shopping right now or I would rather watch a football game or I want to go home for my Sunday dinner!” Like I’m here waiting for a meaningful message and this is what I get? #2 at the same former church I invited a family member to come and preacher was constantly going on about death and dying. Later on I invited the same person again and guess what? He was again going on and on about death and dying. #3 at my current church (I haven’t been to in months but that’s another story) a guest preacher spent the whole time stomping on the congregation how we’re all selfish and heartless never helping people in need without knowing us since he was a guest preacher. In today’s world there are so many discouraged, lonely, depressed and otherwise oppressed people living without daily joy that the church certainly needs better attunement to the ppls needs and a balance when preaching the message

Sorry dont agree with you Matt. Not every church gives a watered down view of the gospel. There is nothing wrong with inviting unbelievers to church. The body of Christ is there. My husband became a christian a year ago and hes 67. He fully understands jesus died for his sins. He had a hard heart and cant believe what has happened to him. Family members pray for unsaved family and that could have been years of prayer and coming to church was enough to experience the saving grace of Jesus. There is no hard and fast rule otherwise we are the judge of how people will be saved

ROFL. it's great how these cultists can't agree how to treat new members. C.S. Lewis said to lie to potential converts since finding out about how splintered and contradictory christanity is would put them off.

I thank God that Jesus has proved himself reliable to answer all the big questions of life: origins, destination, morality, and meaning. Attempts to undermine the veracity of the Bible have failed for millennia. The Bible has been proven reliable historically and archaeologically, and fulfilled prophecy proves its Divine origin. The historic resurrection proves that Jesus is in fact, God. He fulfilled numerous specific prophecies, claimed to be God in the flesh, and then backed it up by rising from the dead. When anyone claims that we can’t know the answers, or something is not possible, they don’t realise that the answers have already been revealed. All of this truth is well-established, and even a cursory look on the Internet will reveal the evidence for this. The problem is that they don’t want to believe. They set up an arbitrary, subjective standard of evidence, (which means nothing), so in their minds they feel justified in not believing. But all the evidence is there 😃 See the channel: “Testify”, for evidence ⬇️ youtube.com/@testifyapologetics?si=sFJn_7F7ZvX-2EYp If you can believe this, there are actually people today (and I mean full grown adults!!), who believe that our ancestors are fish and bacteria!! I’m not joking 🤦🏼♂️

I don’t see the problem. Unbelievers don’t go to church. I assume you mean people who are interested in following Christianity and think churches are gearing their sermons to people who are at an early stage in their spiritual life. I’m guessing some churches just have a lot of people like that and some have more mature believers who want a more serious sermon. They can’t please everybody all of the time

For new people they should start of studying the Gospel of John(4th book of the New Testament). Gospel of John is the Most Important Book out of the whole Bible for Gentiles, to hear the True Gospel of Christ. Mathew, Mark and Luke are predominantly for Jews Audience and can be hard for new people(Gentiles) to understand. After that they should study, Genesis(Story of how sin entered the world and flesh by Adam and Eve, story of Noah and the Great flood, story of Abraham and his faith by willing to sacrifice his son for God, But God commanded him to stop in just a split second and was pleased with his Faith , that is a representation of God sending his only begotten son to be sacrificed on the cross for our sins) The book of Job(Tribulation and his Faith challenged by Satan) , and the book of Jonah(God wanting the wicked people to repent and be saved) also. and the book of revelation (What is to come in the future) . Afterwards. After that the rest of the Bible. (New Testament first)

Using the term new people is confusing. Are you meaning new converts or new unsaved people coming to visit the church. Church is not for the unsaved. It is for the believer in Christ, as you stated in your opening words. For fellowship, communion, worship, teaching, growing and ministry for the Christian. Jesus said to go out and preach the good news, not call them in. It leads to a weak gospel being preached (seeker friendly) that does an injustice to everyone who hears.
@lionoffirerawАй бұрын
I agree with you. To be honest with you, I was actually confused when the pastor used the term “new people.” I think the main point is, as you stated, regardless, we are to preach the uncompromised gospel.

@@lionoffireraw I never watch the videos but read the titles and comments , you did a video awhile back titled stop trying to be a better Christian and I seen it and thought hmmm and last.night the HOLY SPIRIT led me to Romans chapters 6 and 7 and then the teaching of those two chapters by watchman nee and I still struggle with sin. Just saying. GOD BLESS YOU.

Unbelievers do not belong in church, they are welcome to attend, but really there is nothing there for them. The people who are attending the church have already received the gospel, the good news. Church is for worshiping God, encouraging believers, praying, and fellowshiping in the love of Christ. There is nothing in the bible that says invite unbelievers to your meeting. It says Go Ye into all the world... not into your local religious social club.
@newbeginning3571Ай бұрын
The church is the best place to go to have people to try to mess your faith up especially if your unlearned in scriptures.
@johnsmit5999Ай бұрын
That is the problem with trying to friend someone into Christianity. The friendship takes precedence over the message of Scripture. Of course we should be friendly when proclaiming the gospel. Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed.

Sorry to disagree. Church is for worship. Fellowship, learning the word etc. is for later, outside the space where worship occurs. The only way to worship is to offer the sacrifice that makes up for our sins. That is how we gain forgiveness for our offences, by uniting ourselves with the perfect, sinless victim who died for us. Studying the Bible cannot do this. It’s good to learn, surely, but that doesn’t count as worship. Same for fellowship. He commanded that we eat his body and drink his blood. Commanded. Not suggested or requested. Obey or die. This is how we may have eternal life.
@lionoffirerawАй бұрын
I don’t see the Bible say anywhere that church is exclusively for worship. In fact the verses I quoted state the opposite. You’d have to provide a verse stating that church is exclusively for worship. There are actually no verses that state this. So it simply cannot be supported biblically!

Church isn’t a building or even a meeting on a set day on a set hour. Sadly, some Christians forget the true meaning and would benefit from studying Koine Greek.

@@b.t.3406 Neither is it some impossibly refined abstraction. It is Christ’s body on earth. He became incarnate and part of his mission was to leave behind a body of believers meant to teach and instruct. We are meant to gather in His name. The church is a physical reality, visible and recognisable by signs, as well as an invisible one. Think about the significance of God becoming incarnate. He took on the form of a man. The Word became flesh. So too with His church. It proclaims and bears His light in the darkness.
@paulmcnamara7975Ай бұрын
@@lionoffireraw when we learn about God so that our understanding develops, a natural impulse is to worship Him. Fall to our knees and praise and thank him, but more than that, to obey Him and love Him and serve Him. He commanded us to eat His body and drink His blood. We want to unite ourselves with Him because we love Him. We do that in a unique way during the Eucharistic worship and it is this more than anything else that defines us as Christians. Bible study of course helps us hugely. But approaching God in the Eucharist and uniting ourselves with Him should be done in reverence and with awe. It’s not at all surprising that a special place is set aside for this. We call such a consecrated place a church
