The true gift of tongues exists (in another known human language), but the “tongues” that we see today in many churches is not biblical at all. I’ve demonstrated this definitively in the video below! There is not a single instance in Scripture of “tongues” as a private prayer language. This form of tongues simply doesn’t exist, biblically, and is actually a 19th Century invention! kzbin.info/www/bejne/paesd595gtiap68si=LuxyVhyrKm2WTSlt

1Cor14:4 "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church." He is not using this in a negative context. He is making a distinction. That's very clear in 1Cor 14 in regards to tongues. He makes distinctions about what is appropriate in a coporate setting and what is not. He wouldn't be "speaking in tongues more than everyone else" and "wishing they would too" if your understanding was correct. You are the one reading your theology into the text. Let's use the Bible to figure out the context. You've already agreed we should do that. Jude 1:20 states that "Building yourself up" is a positive thing to do (I'm not saying this is tongues. It doesn't matter what praying in the H.S. is here. It's just that it's a positive thing to do!) As far as there being no examples of tongues as a prayer language, that's an arguement from silence (Even though 1Cor14 is teaching it). With that logic, consider how Paul references the 3rd Heaven, but the rest of the Bible never mentions 1st or 2nd Heaven. Do we conclude there is only a 3rd Heaven? James 3:1 says not many of us should teach. You should consider not teaching on this.

I was raised in a charismatic church where tongues was the be all end all. I never had the gift and was looked down on often as a result and felt so less than. I can remember hearing like you that I just had to "speak it out". I got to the point of faking at times, partly to be left alone, partly in hopes it would become real someday. When God opened my eyes to how false the things I was being taught were and ultimately drew me out of charismania, the feeling of less than began to fall away. It has taken years to unpack all the false teachings, but I have found going back to basics, back to His Word has helped so much. Very grateful. Really appreciate you addressing this.

I had a very similar experience. I prayed, asking the LORD the same way you did. I was by myself at the time. As I was praying for it (having been told it was necessary as proof of belief) I felt a warmth rising up in me, I opened my mouth and indecipherable 'word/words' came out of my mouth. Immediately I felt Holy Spirit say Stop! So I did and I never asked for it again. Years later I was in a group of people who were praying in 'tongues' and laying hands over a woman who was experiencing headaches. Having been led by Holy Spirit, I waited on Him to direct me. I was prompted to stay sitting and to not participate but pray for 'them' instead. In the midst of it all, out of the blue, I began 'hearing' what 'their tongues' were saying. It was a curse and 'their' tongues were demonic and 'they' were placing a curse upon one of the woman praying there. Holy Spirit was prompting me to tell them to stop. But I feared 'man' - feared 'them' rejecting me so I just left and prayed about it all the way home. A few days later I heard that one of those woman had been rushed to hospital with serious head issues. The interesting thing that stays with me is this: Why the huge push for the gift of talking in tongues, yet little to no push for the gift of translation? Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for this story. I briefly went to a church where they spoke in tongues but something just didn’t feel right. I even prayed about it but never got the gift. And I’m simply asking because I’m not sure and want to hear what others think, but do you think all of these tongues are demonic and the Bible is talking about people speaking in known languages? I think that is what Matt was saying but I’m just a bit confused.

@@lauras6762 Firstly, I don't think/believe all 'tongues' are demonic, not at all. I have been in a room where a man has stood and spoken in a tongue, not English - and I heard it in my language and it was a Scripture. Suddenly my Malaysian friend began speaking and I didn't understand any of it, but my Iranian friend say 'wow you are speaking in Farsi!' and translated it, a Bible verse! The first time I heard an example of "Speaking in tongues" after being saved from the New Age last year was in a video with Derek Prince talking about it, demonstrating it, and telling/commanding the audience to it. When I heard him "speak in tongues" I thought it sounded exactly like "Light Language", which is an obscure nonsensical stream of sounds and syllables which people in the New Age gnostic occult perform. They say that they're channeling or "downloading" this language from "higher dimensional beings" and that this "Language of Light" holds special healing "light codes". Since then, I've been extremely cautious of people who claim to be "speaking in tongues" - especially in public settings.

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.“ I Corinthians 14:1-5 NKJV

They thought I wasn't paying attention to the pastor but I was listening the entire time. When the pastor asked if anyone wanted to come and receive I just stood up and walked down all by myself without a word, which shocked my parents. I would avoid doing this if you do not speak a real language and dialect that is foreign to your own that could be interpreted. If you don't and are doing mambo jumbo syllables. Then you are attracting demons & the devil into your space. I can give an account that the Christians I've known who do this, from a personal standpoint. Have attracted a lot of problems into their personal lives and still do this, and don't listen when I've pointed how demonic this act actually is. Some have had dire consequences to their family members, children, and personal relationships. Record your tongues speech and play it back into google translator and see if it produces a coherent sentence. If it does, did it reproduce the message you intended while you were praying in tongues, or speaking about from thoughts in general? I guarantee it won't. The holy bible does make it clear, the gifts of the holy spirit won't happen again until the during/after the Tribulation period and only for the Jews. Right now, we are in the "Church Age" and we aren't to be blessed with those gifts. Anyone who says otherwise is of the devil. Right now, is the time to walk by faith, not by sight. We are fortunate to live in a time where faith is all we need to be saved. Keep it simple, and just keep living the best you can, despite your sinful mishaps. Jesus loves you and will always forgive you.

My experience was with tongues was different. I went to the house of someone who was discipling me at the time, and she asked me if I'd ever wanted the gift of tongues (I had no Christian men available to me at the time. It was a very rough time in my life). I said yes, absolutely. First, she took an *hour* (seemed like an eternity) going through scripture about what tongues is, so on and so forth. Then after we were finished searching the scriptures, she said she would first pray for me, to receive the gift of tongues, first with her understanding, and then she'd begin praying in tongues. After she began praying in tongues, then I was to begin babbling nonsense. I was in my 20's at the time, so I just went ahead and did it. As I began babbling nonsense, it felt as if someone was standing on my right, blowing on my face (there was no one there) and the most beautiful language began to manifest - I mean, it BLOOMED. It had the syntax, the rhythm, and the emphases of a legitimate language being spoken with understanding. The woman told me to pray in tongues every time I got the chance. I took her advice literally, and I would pray in tongues every single day. Often times, t was as if the Lord was *dumping* prayers onto me as I spoke out. This whole time, it's always been about just spending time with the Lord. If he's in it, he's in it. If he's not he's not. If I regard sin in my heart, he will not hear my prayer, and I know I'm wasting my time. Since that time, the language that comes out is comprised of what seems to be a blend of Brazilian Portuguese, French, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew, and Greek - none of it I had any prior training in, all of it having biblical meaning, and attribution to the person of Jesus Christ. I guess you could call it a "script" of sorts. It's just what I speak as I feel led to pray. Once I start in, if the Lord has a tongue for me to speak as I pray, he gives it to me. I once ignorantly came into a prayer time with him, praying for missing and abused children, asking Him to go to battle for them. Started off in my normal tongues "script," and within a minute or two the entire dialect flipped to a language I'd never heard before, and I sounded like one of those people praying at the wailing wall. Absolutely none of the emotion was my own. It was like an imploring, or an intercession of sorts. I had absolutely no hand in it except to open my mouth. Only thing I know is that God puts a high premium on the heads of children, and if there is something he can use us for in prayer, I believe he does it. I dunno, I don't want to make it sound all weird. Tongues is very much something that's gotta be the Lord if it is to be authentic. It's not a magic wand, as many pentecostal churches have made it to be - nor is it some sort of bizarre new age incantation. It's an enablement by the Holy Spirit to partner with the Lord in something He's doing, and it can be a blessing that builds up your faith. It's a small little tool that, yes, is imparted supernaturally from the Lord to the believer who will receive it. There are counterfeits out there (Kenneth Copeland, to name one. He speaks blasphemes in babble), but we mustn't let the counterfeits discourage us from seeking the Lord for this gift if we truly want it. Satan is a master counterfeiter, and can enable those who are his to speak nonsense and blasphemes. But those of us in Christ can only be indwelled and influenced by the Holy Spirit Himself. If tongues seems awkward to you, or you don't want any part of it, then I say stay away. It's not something that can be contrived. Instead, it's got to be received as a gift/tool within the bonds of the covenant relationship one has with Christ.

I read of two men on a train in some country (I cannot remember which), and one of the men felt compelled to go and sit with a stranger whom he got talking to and gave the gospel. When he returned to his friend, his friend exclaimed "I did not know that you spoke that language!" It seems he had been talking in the stranger's language which he, himself, did not know.

This is a bit long but I really want to just tell it all. At one point I was invited to a church (now this was over 10 years ago) by my sons teacher (we had just moved to the area) and on my first visit they started speaking in tongues. It was a fairly big church of around 500 in a high income area. I had NO IDEA what was happening! It was jarring to hear it. Deer in headlights was probably the look on my face. I had only been to Baptist and Methodist churches. But I kept going and they eventually got me to speak in tongues. The pastor touched my forehead and I just immediately began to speak. I learned that tongues is essential in a Pentecostal church. I did it and tried to get into it but never fully understood what I was doing. I remember one evening service was just tongues and at one point I laid my head on the alter and at the end of the service he told the congregation to keep walking and to not sit or sit by the alter. Well since I was the only one who had done that he was talking about me. I eventually grew to have mixed feelings about the pastor. He would boast about his big house and I have a story about that that has never sat well with me. I had been going to this church for a while and a lady who had no car at the time needed a ride and so I said sure. Sunday morning I picked her up in what was obviously low rent housing. In the sermon he was talking about what God has blessed him with and I still remember him describing his house to us. He even had a gym in the basement he never used. And all I could think about was how this lady who was clearly poor must feel hearing her pastor boast like this. It made me very angry. I never saw her again. Looking back it was a very strange church. He had security, dressed in black (think The Matrix) that spoke into secret microphones like the Secret Service. At the end of every service they would turn his huge truck on to cool it or heat it. You felt special to get to talk to him because there were so many people. He would walk around shaking hands like a politician. He was clearly pampered by the congregation and he really was treated like a celebrity. It seemed like He really loved God and he was always smiling. He seemed very sincere mostly. But it's clear that's what he wanted for a congregation doesn't act a certain way unless he sets up his church that way. He built this church from the beginning-it was his church. It was an odd 2 years there with lots of drama and cliques. I actually tried to continue speaking in tongues when we moved again (we were military) but I just came to realize that unless you put prayer behind it as you speak it's meaningless. Then of course there are the Scriptures you mentioned cautioning against. There were times that people would get up on stage and speak "from God". But I never saw anyone decipher tongues. It sure was a learning experience but now I attend an Evangelical church and a couple weeks ago the entire sermon was on how to evangelize biblically. Very refreshing to hear. I love that church. No frills, just Jesus and the Bible.

don't mistaken Pentecostalism with materialism and worldliness. the original Pentecostals were and are first seekers of holiness and spiritual Divine reality, they practice self-denial and simplicity. only later then, the American worldly spirit entered and affected some of the Pentecostal denominations in America, creating an Americanized materialistic 'gospel'. you will find so many Pentecostal pastors in third world countries (Asia, Latin America, Africa) who live humble, holy and simple lives, and manifest the power of the Holy Spirit in their ministries. you do NOT need the Holy Spirit if you live in the west in a sterile, relatively cozy environment. but you will desperately need to know and experience the power of the Holy Spirit if you face harsh situations, practicioners of witchcraft, satanism, black magic. be assured that these people don't care about your doctrine and theology, they are not afraid of that. they will only fear those who truly KNOW God and Christ and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit in reality.

I had one occation (of several) when I was distressed and hungered for Lord and calling on Him in my prayer closet. Then I started to pray in tounges and suddenly I got the interpretation "I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.". That´s from Matthew 28;20... This was in my regular prayer language I have received. Sure I do believe there is false toungues also but I believe in the word that if we ask Him He doesn´t give us a snake but gives us good gifts right. I received mine at home by myself... God bless you brother and all of you who are reading this

I also received mine at home by myself in my living room through the prompting of the Holy Spirit, following a deliverance session the night before. I grew up Baptist and there was no speaking in tongues in my church. Fast forward many years later into adulthood, I had to let go of my desire for “rational” and “scientific” explanations for what was purely spiritual and just had to trust God alone. I did not feel like I needed to speak in tongues to be used by God or be “proven” worthy of anything, but I am grateful for God’s gift to me. I pray one day this man can experience the true gift of tongues as it was meant to be. I can’t deny my own personal encounter with the Lord. Some things just have to be experienced and not explained. God is awesome and we can’t truly wrap our minds around the depth of who He is and what He gives us!

My brother and I went to a revival. There were only a few ppl attending, and we knew them all, and that they all speak in tongues. At the altar call, my brother and I went down. We did not plan it, but God touched us and we began speaking tongues. We had no idea what we were praying about. After a very long time, we stopped bc the others wanted to lock up and go home. We were on a narrow, lonely road, with no street lights. There were very few cars on the road, none in our sight in our direction. We sang songs of praise as we went. Our thoughts were in sync. I was sitting in back and good view of him. I looked in the mirror and saw that he looked at same time, we saw headlights behind us, a long distance away. We continued to sing. When we looked in mirror again The car had closed the distance by half. Third look, they were a foot away ! There were 2 cars, one chasing the other. I turned and looked in the car ( I should have only seen blinding lights) but I saw a Blond haired lady Bathed in light emitting from above her head (no light bulb in such a place) I saw she was extremely afraid. As I turned fwd, we were hit. We both began praying in tongues! We kept going faster and faster trying to get away from them, but they hit us two more times. We saw a traffic light in the distance and wondered what we should do; then the cars went speeding past us. The woman was terrified, even so, when she saw cars and motorcycle waiting on the right side for light to change she slowed down to keep from involving them. Crash Boom, then they spun and spun, into the ditch. It is a miracle we all survived! We had been going over 100 mph! So this was a high speed crash. The blond woman had a broken back, everyone else was without injury. We realized we had been praying for God to protect us all. God knew there would be a crash but it was up to us to pray for help, and protection.

I can only speak about my own experience with tongues. I was at Bible college many moons ago and a few friends of mine prayed in tongues. When we had private prayer together they would sometimes pray in tongues but not at full volume or in any way to give some kind of prophesy. This stirred me up to seek tongues and I did so for many months. Then, one day, I went into the college library and a book caught my eye on praying in tongues. I took this as a 'sign' and so I took myself off to the prayer room and I prayed to God that if this was a gift that he wanted to give me then I would take that leap of faith and open my mouth. As I opened my mouth, a language came out and I felt a great leap/kick in my stomach. For at least a year, I did struggle about whether what I was saying was of God but as time went on, I became more confident that I was. I use it privately and especially when I feel I don't have the words to pray with. I agree with what you say Matt - that there is an order, which Paul is very clear on. My tongue is not as you demonstrated, or what you hear with these false teachers, e.g. babababa tadadada bobobobo... To end, my understanding is that we can speak in tongues in our own prayer time to God, and to only use it in the church if someone (or yourself) has an interpretation?

I actually explained 1 Corinthians 14:2 in the video. The reason that the person is described as “speaks not to men but to God” basically means that it’s of no use to anyone because no one can understand it. Diverse goes on to say that ” for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the spirit.” Again, the reason that it’s a “mystery” is simply because no one understands it; it’s a mystery to the very people the gift is supposed to be edifying. The Bible says nothing anywhere about tongues being some sort secret prayer language. In v14-15 the comparison between “my mind” and “my spirit” shows that Paul is not speaking of the Holy Spirit, but his own human spirit. The whole purpose of this passage is to describe the MISUSE of these gifts, and how it is dangerous and unfruitful.

I have the gift of tongues and am grateful I do. Not that everyone has to have it. I read the comments, listened to most of the video. I am sorry many believe it is demonic as the narrator seemed to conclude. When I was given this gift I did not know what it was about. I was told to praise God, hands were laid on me, as I was saying Alleuhia. Almost instantly my tongue began to move differently. I felt a force in me and I was amazed and rejoiced as I was told it was the gift of tongues. The Spirit of God had been evidently given to me. Now this I say in faith. I could have ran from there and never used the gift, because it did not serve any other purpose but to encourage me. I did not know what I was saying. It was an intimate language that God was speaking through me. For the Spirit of God prays through us in utterances that cannot be understood and helps us pray as we ought to. So by faith I embraced this gift. By faith we know that Christ is God and that he lived and died for our sins and was rissen on the third day to fulfil the scriptures. The just live by faith. Now I could have over the many years of having this gift forsaken it. I did for the longest time not speak to God this way. I then remembered it and thought I am ignoring the gift you gave me. I was heartly sorry and asked the Lord to let me speak it and I would use it more regularily. So I began to use it. I found that I can speak this way when I am at a loss of what to pray for. I also find that not only does it help me pray in tongues but it motivates me to pray in english. It may even be an interpretaton of what I said in tongues. The point I am making here is that by faith it comes from God and it is a gift to those who will benefit by it. If someone has been given this gift and then rejects it, you are rejecting what God gave you. I would warn you to repent and ask for forgiveness. It is a gift from God! And for those and the narrator, wanting to discourage people not to use this gift or that it is demonic I would say you are in great error! The scriptures do not say this no matter how you quote them and interpret them. This is an attack on the people of God to say this. Are you jealous of it? Do not be. If you do not have that gift you may have another gift. Perhaps prophecy which is a far better gift. Not all HAVE to have this gift if they are Christians. It is not a prequisite of salvation. It is a gift like teaching or prophesising or discernment. It is not even the fruit of the Spirit (which is love). But it is a gift, humble as it is and precious to me and those who have faith in God who we know gave it to us.

100% this is how I feel. I had a mentor who, after asking your name, the next question was whether you spoke in tongues. I grew up Baptist so had never heard it during that time or felt like I was lacking without it. I did not appreciate the gift of tongues being lorded over people and truly believed God could still use me greatly and that I still had the Holy Spirit without it. Earlier this year, the next morning after my deliverance (during which I had to renounce the spirits of intellectualism and religiosity), the Holy Spirit impressed upon me that He was going to give me this gift. I felt a wave come over me and began to weep and speak in my heavenly language. That said, even being on the other side of it, I am still of the belief that not speaking in tongues does not make you incomplete, disqualify the Holy Spirit from using you powerfully, or imply that someone is less than. I thank the Lord for the experience I had and the gift I received, but it only came when the religious spirit left and I trusted God alone rather than people’s feelings, judgments, or misplaced concerns.

@@lionoffireraw respectfully there are diverse kinds of tongues 1 Corinthians 14:11-13, prophetic tongues needs interpretation. The other tongues are personal for edification 1 Corinthians 14:4 - (this means to build up yourself in your most holy faith praying in the spirit). When someone shoots up in a crowd and utters unknown tongues as given from the Holy Spirit - this needs to be interpreted so that it can edify the whole congregation. However if someone is leading prayers and there is a common understanding of what the prayer point is about in the congregation, the congregation is free to speak in tongues - For we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 1 Corinthians 14:39 Paul says, “do not forbid speaking in tongues.” Because of this, we don't intend to forbid this gift or to go beyond Scripture and say that it has ceased.

This was God led, I've been in a lot of churches that "push" and "help" people receive the gift of speaking in tongues. I'm so glad you clarified this up... it is a gift from God, not man. ❤

Not everyone will speak in tongues and that's ok. However those who have the gift of tongues, This is a special intimate conversation between us and the God, only God knows what we are quietly praying. There are times when we speak in tongues, this is where we get our breakthrough, this is where the battles are fought, where we take ground in our lives, with the Holy Spirits help. However, speaking in tongues publicly, this requires an interpretation "from someone else, rather quickly". If there is no interpretation, the person speaking publicly in tongues is not hearing from the Lord. Blessings and favor to you.

Even when I am by myself praying with God, His spirit over takes me with tongues as I submit myself to him. When the bible says "as the spirit gave them utterance" it isn't saying try to mimic or conjure up what you think tongues sound like and then speak that out. If you are truly submitted to God and want him to move in your life, as you pray to him and he begins to move, then your mouth will testify of his spirit inside of you through speaking of tongues. So yes its true that you should stop trying to speak in tongues of your own accord, but never stop letting God speak through you in tongues. "The tongue is the most unruly member of the body" (James 3:8) as the bible states, so it is no wonder why God chose the tongue to signify his spirit inside of us when we submit to him. If you are not speaking in tongues as he gives utterance, then you should ask yourself, or ask God rather, what have you not submitted, or how you can surrender to him. When that becomes clear and you surrender yourself, you will find yourself speaking in tongues. Remember, church is only one place to find God, you can also find him right in your room.

I was raised in a charismatic, tongue speaking church. When I got old enough, I began to question much of what I had been exposed to in my church. I started to search and research the charismatic manifestations, along with the history of modern Pentecostalism and Charismatics. I still continue to this day to prayerfully research the Bible in order to properly use good hermeneutics and to exegetically read God's Word. My years of study and research have taught me that much of what I was exposed to in my charismatic church was based on complete misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the Bible. Also, religious tradition was to blame for much of the wrong doctrine I was taught in those years. This video of yours, I must say, is one of the best videos I have ever seen on how biblical tongues is totally misunderstood and misused in Pentecostal and charismatic churches. There's a HUGE DIFFERENCE in having the gift from God to speak in tongues and someone merely mimicking someone else. I only speak in tongues when I'm in the privacy of my room when I'm personally spending time with God. I can start and stop at will (1 Cor 14:40, Paul says to do all things decently and in order), I have no idea what I'm saying (i dont know what will come out my mouth or even how it will sound until it is spoken - there is NO WAY YOU CAN CHOOSE THE SYLLABLES coming out of your mouth), but I can feel my prayers reaching God. I trust and have faith that issues, (i as a person, have no knowledge or control over) is taken to God in prayer. Pretending to have this gift is a mockery of God. 1 Cor 14, tells you all you need to know about the gift of tongues. If you've been led to stop, it's because you never had the gift. It is a SIN to pretend so that you can "impress" others. And those who DO have the gift of tongues are never boastful about it. I think you need to pray for clarity and discernment and until you find definitive answers do not preach to masses on subjects which you not sure about. Incorrect teachings can lead people astray from the truth of God's Word, causing confusion, division, and spiritual harm. Dangerous territory. People who speak in tongues KNOW if it's real or if they are pretending (hence, sinning).

Also, Matt, what you described as your experience is not authentic speaking in tongues. If you consciously spoke it then it wasn’t from the spirit. Speaking in tongues flows subconsciously and you absolutely don’t direct it in any way. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I have had many of them and so do not participate…only in personal prayer time occasionally if I’m really distraught. God bless you and your ministry Please don’t call it a false belief/teaching due to a bad experience.

It seems easy for people to get "public tongues" and "private tongues" out of order. It is right for public tongues to have the interpretation, like you point out is in scripture and private tongues are what Paul said are for personal edification. When I'm crying out to God in my personal time with him, I experience breakthrough and answers to my prayers, the deep, hard, life-changing moments. I have enjoyed worship in tongues with friends. So, Idk where that falls in, but I'm willing for God to work it out in me.

Thank you for your honesty, recognising the error of many people who say that one has to practise speaking in toungs. One self-appointed pastor prayed over me, anticipating my speaking in toungs. When it didn't happen, he said ..on the quiet.. to a member of his group that I was the only person he prayed over who didn't speak in toungs. I thought this rather vain of him to say such things. I will not make up a language when it's self-induced. Thanks again for your clear message...

To anyone who believes tongues is false or evil. Not all tongues is false. I pray in tongues and I have found out that it’s Hebrew. The reason I know is because over time I have heard several of the words I pray in messianic music and videos. I do not try to unravel everything I pray because if the Lord wants me to know he will give me the interpretation of it. Please understand that we must be very careful of what we call evil or satanic. If someone is just ignorant is one thing but to call what’s Holy to be evil is very dangerous. The Holy Spirit is real and is working all over the earth. Miracles, signs and wonders will increase greatly the darker society gets. Understand I’m not being critical of anyone. I just fear for anyone who thinks speaking in tongues is demonic. May the Lord Jesus bless you

I was baptised many years ago and began to speak in tongues immediately. It was at a Church calling themselves they are “Spirit FIlled” The baptism experience was amazing but the tongues has always been an issue. I prayed in tongues for a while, prayed over people etc. The Lord finally showed me after querying speaking in tongues. I no longer go to that Church and haven’t spoken in tongues for years. Yes there is so much talk about tongues and the Church I would go to would say those that don’t speak in tongues haven’t received the Spirit and there cannot be saved. This just didn’t sit right with me. Glad you made this video. ❤

I had not been introduced to this growing up. But did in my mid 40's. But I did not receive it during service. A couple of days later I was reading the Bible and I prayed. After, I just said," Father in Heaven, if this is really from You and a part of You, then I want this". Then it just came, and I started. And the more I did, then in time there was also an understanding of what The Father was relaying. But I asked the Father for it. I did not just start making words of my own accord. But I could stop and start at will when my heart and mind is stayed on my Father in Heaven.

I don't know about anyone else but I asked God for tongues for years, but I would doubt and of course if you doubt, you're not going to get anything from God. A few years ago I was praying alone like always and as I prayed these other words would come out of my mouth, sometimes very boldly. I can stop it and pray in english and back and forth. We control it. Usually as I pray I usually start by thanking the Father for Jesus, basically John 3:16 then the Lord's prayer with additions about his will in my life etc and that I do his will. usually that's when it happens to me. By the way some say tongues is gibberish. I assure you what comes out of my mouth is not gibberish. I know positively it is a language, maybe more than one. Sometimes it's very strong .

Many times, us Truth seekers have to remind ourselves that not all people are able to see the word like we do. I share often the fact that God has revealed something to me. We all have gifts of the spirit but how many denominations teach anything about the Spiritual part of our faith? How many churches have Spiritual Warfare training? How about any type of studies done on the Spiritual? NOT many. Sadly, I know at our church our Pastor will do a special study on Wen. night to give those people interested in knowing these truths about the Spiritual. It is sad to see so many people confused and coerced to perform something that the scripture clearly states that it MUST BE initiated by the HOLY SPIRIT. There is a time and a place, for the convincing of the unbelievers. The example in the scripture we read; Where Paul tells them it was for the convincing of unbelievers of the Holy Spirt. Even today we can see events where such a large gathering was, and the Holy Spirit did move. In the first chapter of 1st Corinthians 12. We read the 5 spiritual gifts. It does clearly say that not all have these gifts, but most will have at least one and some are well blessed. To say they have more. That is seen in the Disciples. It all falls back to the persons own faith in what God is capable of doing. People are still attempting to see God in a human form and not the Deity he should be Feared. This fear is not one of terror, but of respect and admiration. As one would look upon an all knowing, all powerful, God who just wants his children to love and respect one another and receive his free gift of Salvation.

Real spiritual tongues are not words you make up. I can think of something completely different in my native language while simultaniously letting my spirit speak in tongues and the same sentences repeat automatically without me focusing my mind on it. The mind can think about something completely different while the spirit speaks in tongues. Thats one way of confirming if you have the real gift of tongues or not.

My family and I speak in tounges at home regularly. I rarely do it with anyone besides my family. The most I pray, I do privately. I remember starting out with just talking gibberish, because I saw my parents speak in tounges (actual tounges, big difference). It was repeating words and sentences. I have never had "a moment" where I know I recieved the gift of tounges. Nowadays, whenever I speak, as you said "I can feel gods presence". It feels like a force inside my bosom/belly area, a kind of tingling that flows up and out of my mouth. For me, speaking in tounges is a very private and intimate way to talk with god. This video has given me some doubts whether i actually have this gift. I can feel an alarm going off, whenever I heard you say that this is merely my imagination. This is because i can see clear positive results inside myself and on the people around me. I pray regularly in tounges for people I care about. It just works. Even though I got this feeling of doubt when watching this video, I can clearly say, it just works. I have never experienced a church do the full-blown "ya gotta speak in tounges" and I'm sure my opinion would be different if I had in the beginning. I can only recommend one thing. If you're gonna do it, do it privately. Do it for god, never for anyone else. 1 Corinthians 1:14 "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue" This verse reminds me of me lol. In front of god, and also the family (but only for god). The Christian life is different for every person. Don't think you're missing out if you don't speak in tounges. Just make sure that Jesus is the top priority, no matter what.

When you first started speaking in tongues, you mentioned it was like gibberish? I'm curious how you made the leap from that to a deeper spiritual experience, where it felt like a stirring in your belly and the Holy Spirit taking over. Did you just keep practicing the gibberish until it transformed? Or did you have a time when you stopped and then felt led by God or the Holy Spirit to try again? How did it happen where you started feeling that stirring inside in a way where im assuming you can no longer choose your syllables if you tried? Sounds amazing!!! 🥰

Read the word, and pray. Live in obedience, rest in Him. Be a good testimony to those around us. If He decides to give you this or that gift, fine, use it wisely and for His glory.

I grew up in an SDA church, aka no gifts, it was for the past in their view. They didn't even really believe in the Holy Spirit since they saw the Sabbath as the seal/sign. Anyways, I was reborn last year and later realized just how bad the SDA doctrine and history is. I've been looking for a new church as none of my friends are Christian and I really needed a family, but switching to a Sunday church... especially after I've seen so many prosperity, worldly, or blasphemous churches on KZbin, is scary and intimidating 😅. But earlier this year, a pastor at a newer church plan reached out since I play guitar and said on my profile I'm hoping to use my talents for God now. I did ask about theology and doctrine, and I agreed with the pastor's answers. The pastor invited me to some online bible studies before I came out, and they prayed in tongues right away so it was quite creepy, but the teaching was sound. I heard about tongues, but never actually heard or seen it personally. I did ask about that too, especially regarding an interpretor being present, but he defended it. I decided to check the church out anyways, especially since they would arrange a ride as it's far out of bus reach. If this is where God is leading me, I'd wanna be obedient and walk in faith. It doesn't have to be long-term anyways, it can just be for me to get comfortable with Sunday churches 🤷🏾♀️ Anyways, they always start their service with prayer mingled in tongues, and others would pray at the same time, but at least they don't preach in tongues or push it on me. Most of em are from Nigeria, whereas I'm born in Toronto and am from a Caribbean background, so I'm assuming it's more their culture and language than a gift, but they do seem genuine in their convictions. During a class, some were wondering why people were so skeptical of tongues and called it gibberish (I didn't bring it up). I shared my testimony as well and found out most of them were from Catholic backgrounds as well, so I assume that means most of them started speaking in tongues later in life, unless Nigerian Catholics speak in tongues as well. Regardless, I'm sure Jesus is coming back very VERY soon, so I'm happy to have a small community that's at least serious about the gospel and passionate about living for God in the meantime. There's no perfect church as they say. I'm open to experiences and gifts and such, having not been exposed to anything in the past. I know the red flags and have watched countless videos on fake tongues. I can't be peer pressured into faking it as I've never been one to follow the crowd. If they ever have an issue with me not doing it or I see it being pushed onto others, it'll definitely be my sign to leave, but if that's how they pray on their own and they can't help it when they pray together, then who am I to get in the way of that 🤷🏾♀️ Not defending it, I still think their approach is wrong, and as Paul said, visitors would think they're crazy, but if everyone is a genuine believer and that's how they worship, I wouldn't want to cause division over it. I loved the argue in the past, but God has changed my heart and I just have more love, grace, and patience towards others who may be deceived like I was 🙏🏾

you should study Acts 2 and observe : which of the apostles or disciples from the 120 who UNDERSTOOD that it was a HUMAN language ? NOT ONE OF THEM ! it was only because the Jews who came from diaspora (outside the land of Israel) mentioned that they were speaking in foreign human languages that they got to realize that. on the other hand, Jesus NEVER mentioned to the disciples before the Pentecost that the disciples would speak in unknown tongues, He only mentioned that they would receive POWER/DUNAMIS when the Holy Spirit would come upon them and that they would become His witnesses. so it is not the tongues itself that should become the point of debate but whether the one speaking in tongues truly receives POWER/DUNAMIS after they began to speak in tongues.

I had similar skepticism but brother I have literally felt God’s presence more and not only that I’ve seen the things in the spiritual manifest in physical. I came to the point where I was praying in tounges 2-3 hours a night. For one week straight i saw baby birds falling from their nest in different locationd around the house I live in. The enemy was sending attacks that were not getting through. My dreams became so spiritual and real and I would learn from them. I haven't received the gift of tongues myself, but my husband was praying over our infant son, who was close to death and realized he had stopped praying in English and also that the language was complex and specific. Our son not only survived, but was healed the next day. It never happened again and he never tried to make it happen. The same thing happened to my uncle.... a one-time experience at a time of extreme angst. He was the LAST person I would have imagined. He was just your average church-going guy, with no real interest in supernatural gifts. In fact his church strictly taught against it, so he definitely wasn't searching for that. I do know of people who seem to be speaking a real language, to my ears anyway, and not the typical phonetic and repetitive sounds. They have remarkable depth of understanding and a genuine heart of worship. There is one thing I notice. JOY. People who exude joy and deep worship I am more likely to believe. I was curious, did you feel your first experience was authentic? It sounded like it was.

Sir your problem is that you can’t justify your doctrine with the Bible, all you can do is babble and claim that the Holy Spirit is the one who’s making you do the nonsense that you are doing for no particular reason whatsoever, but think about it this way and answer this question, in 1 Corinthians 14: 14-15 you would agree that Paul is being inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the Word and not just in those verses the entire chapter where Paul is say tongues must be interpreted but in the verses I gave you Paul is saying to pray with understanding always so if the Holy Spirit is inspiring these writings telling people not to speak in Tongues in groups or speak without interpretation, you also believe the Holy Spirit is causing you to speak in Tongues if that is the case why would the Holy Spirit Tell you in the Scriptures not to do a particular then the same Holy Spirit is Causing you to do the exact same thing he told you not to do? Are you now claiming God is Contradicting himself? You need to answer that question please.

Hello. My supernatural encounter of receiving the in filling of the Holy Ghost was when I was 12 years old. It was a very normal occurrence in the church that I attended. And listening and hearing and reading the scripture I believed that God could fill me with the Holy Ghost. So on a Father's Day I said to God I don't care what people say I don't care what people do I just want to be saved. It was at that very moment that I was in total surrender to God and at that moment I began to speak with other tongues as the spirit of God gave me the utterance. It was such a tremendous experience that I was in the wonderful presence of God. In other words, he came and dwelt in my mist. The scripture tells us that God dwells in the midst of our praise to him. In the book of John Jesus tell the disciples receive the Holy Ghost. But the manifestation of them receiving the in filling of the Holy Ghost happened in Acts chapter 2 on the day of Pentecost when suddenly😅

There came a sound from heaven like as of a Rushing mighty wind that filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. It was not only the 12 disciples but it was the 120 in the upper room which included Mary the mother of Jesus. And as you look further they were asked about verse 37 what must we do, Peter in the 38th verse of the chapter 2 told them to repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are a far off even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And as you continue to read the book of Acts you will see throughout that they received the Holy Ghost. In Acts the 10th chapter 44th to the 47th verse while Peter was yet speaking the Holy Ghost fell upon all that heard the word. Read that passage of scripture. The Holy Ghost is still falling on the people of God. All that will receive the scripture and His word can speak like they did on the day of Pentecost. God bless you.

I have always wondered about this thing of lots of tongues being spoken out in church but no interpretation being given, which is not biblical, as you say. I had a long period of time when I spoke in tongues a lot; every time I did it, I always had something happen within, like butterflies or something like that; it was amazing that it always happened. But then I had some kind of turning point in my spiritual life, and part of it included no longer speaking in tongues. This went on for a long time. Now I'm revisiting speaking in tongues, and it's the same phrases I always used, but this time, there's no movement or otherwise a reaction inside. Curious, huh? But my sense about it is, like you say, if God wants me to do this, let Him cause it to happen.

Anybody can tell of their personal experiences. I hope experiences don't guide us in our Christian walk. We need to be guided by the Holy Spirit and a love for the truth. We know the Scriptures are God breathed by the Holy Spirit. We really need to listen to what Paul wrote about tongues, without our personal slant that might lead us away from the true meaning of what he wrote about. Without a love for the truth, it is almost impossible to get closer to God. Paul tells us to pursue the Spiritual gifts, not to set them aside. If we pray for God to give us an intense love of the truth, we may understand why Paul said he prayed in tongues more than anyone. When we pray in the Spirit, we build ourselves up or become edified. We need to be built up in the Spirit in order to win the war that rages inside of us. If we think we can overcome the great influence of our flesh without the Spiritual power that comes from praying in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit, we are in serious error. The enemies of God are the ones who hold to a form of Godliness but deny the very power of God.

don 't be silly, the Scriptures itself is a record of multiple and various spiritual experiences with God/Christ/Holy Spirit. if you think spiritual experiences is not important and relevan, then start ripping off those pages from your Bible that tells of spiritual experiences of the patriarchs, prophets, disciples, apostles. let's see how much the Bible makes sense without those parts.

Some time ago a friend relayed his experience. He brought a gentleman to church and tried not to sit near one of the members who spoke in tongues a lot. But somehow the person he was trying to avoid sat behind them. The guest stated the man behind him was speaking from his grandmothers Indian lamguage which in English translated, God loves you. She had said those words to him as he was growing up.

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, BUT IN HIS SPIRIT he speaks mysteries. So where is it coming from “his spirit” not his mind. That is why Paul says “if I pray in a tongue my spirit prays” 1 Corinthians 14:14 “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.” This is making a clear distinction between praying with your mind or praying with the spirit. But like I’ve said I understand even though this is crystal clear I used to be blind to it also.

“speaking not to men, but to God” - means that only God can understand I.e. it serves no purpose for the people in the church, without an interpreter (that’s the whole context). It’s saying this is a BAD thing, not a good thing! It’s not saying that it’s a prayer language. The bit about being unfruitful, simply means that the person is praying in the church (in the gift of tongues - another known human language), but it’s unfruitful in its intended purpose because no one understands it. --- The true gift of tongues exists (in another known human language), but the “tongues” that we see today in many churches is not biblical at all. I’ve demonstrated this definitively in this video. There is not a single instance in Scripture of “tongues” as a private prayer language. This form of tongues simply doesn’t exist, biblically, and is actually a 19th Century invention! kzbin.info/www/bejne/paesd595gtiap68si=LuxyVhyrKm2WTSlt

Matt do you know that the word christian means follower of Christ . Today you can't be one of those He's not here to follow, you can't find Him walking around anywhere. If you are Truly born again the Lord Jesus Christ lives inside of your body by the indwelling Presence of the same Holy Spirit that lives inside of Him.,and He bring into your life His resurrected Life and Life and His Heavenly Language that is Spoken and will be with us throughout all eternity,,imagine that Matt. The Lord Jesus Christ now can't be found walking the streets of earth, but He can be found Living in the hearts of those that Truly Love Him from there hearts.Straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leads unto Life and few there be that find it,if you don't establish your life on God's Authorised Scriptures, you are in deception, and you are denying The Lord Jesus Christ, that word deny means,to contradict ,a d when you contradict the Living Word of God you are an unbeliever, the word believe means ,to trust in,to rely on,to adhere too. Those are all active terms, not mental assent, you have to do them. That little prefix, un,means no,I won't trust in,or rely on ,or adhere to God's Living Word, that makes you and unbeliever by you own choice.please correct me where im wrong.

Matt ,you speak English and if I try to engage you in a conversation and you refuse to respond to me we will never have sweet fellowship no matter how much we want it.God the Father Breathed the Breath of Life into His only Begotten Son and sent Him here on earth to pay the price of redemption of all mankind by His shed blood. Now those who from there hearts will receive the same Lord Jesus Christ into there hearts become born again children of the Living and True God who is Love.Matt remember the organ for believing is not the brains in your head ,for with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is unto salvation, God offers us the most precious gift of speaking His Heaven Language, here and now so that He can reveal to us His Heavenly Eternal plans for our lives ,and the means to have them played out in our lifetime here on earth, but if you harden your heart like Pharaoh, and refuse to speak to our Loving Heavenly Father He will not force you to ,but you will seek religion because it's of the brains,A love relationship is from the heart. Please correct me where im wrong.

Good for you. I think you're right. I used to speak in tongues a lot but hardly ever do now unless the Spirit comes upon me. Best to be true to yourself too.

"tongues" should actually translated as "languages" meaning talking in REAl but unknown languages. show me only one example after the apostolic time...

This is a personal preference. If I walk into a church & people are speaking in tongues i wouldn’t stay because I wouldn’t want to know that spirit. Do you?

@@Saingi07spiritualist speak in tongues, I've seen it before salvation. And I've seen in Charismatic Churches. And I believe by the results it's the same spirit and it's not God
@Saingi076 ай бұрын
@@esaiah3344 I agree %100. I went to a charismatic small gathering in a hall & the Pastor was inviting the Holy Spirit in to help his 12 yr old son to speak the mum was playing the piano softly. I felt something come into the service & it almost was making me sway. I then just started repeating Jesus Christ over & over in my head because I felt like it was attacking my spirit whatever spirit came into the hall. Finally after other people spoke in tongues & the weird piano music stopped the heavy oppressive spirit left. I am of the opinion that you can’t be born again Christian & speak in tongues because the Holy Spirit comes in when you invite Jesus in. It’ also must be a in the tongues spirit one that attacks you if you have received Jesus. My humble thoughts on this topic & not take anything away from people who do choose to but it’s dangerous & not from Father God

Not clickbait. Clearly, the title was specifically offering our brother's reasons for why he no longer prayed in tongues and backed it up with Scripture that puts the gift of tongues in an orderly framework, i.e. Author, purpose, accompanied by translation, etc..

There is so much confusion over tongues! Some are just for you to use when you don't know what to pray! Now there are only some people that have the gift of tongues for the church body! This one is to be interpreted! My church has had this gift for the body! It's awesome! We are putting them into books! B

Being filled with the Holy Ghost/speaking in tongues and tongues and interpritations are two separate things. I would be very careful what you are preaching to people.. If you have been called of God then you would be speaking truth and not your own thoughts. I am praying for you and that Christ almighty will show you the way. There is a lot of voices in the land today be careful which one you listen too.

I only speak what the Bible says. There is not a single example in scripture of anyone speaking a “secret prayer language” in tongues. Every single example of tongues in the Scriptures is in another known language. This ”secret prayer language” tongues is a fairly recent invention. There is not one passage that explicitly speaks of this. And as I showed in the video, some of the interpretation of verses peoples use to justify it (eg. 1 Cor 14:2), are easily refuted. You cannot show me where I am definitively and explicitly wrong. You are trying to defend theology of man. I know it can be hard to let go of, but I had to be honest about what the Bible says. I’d rather be biblical than hold onto wrong theology!!

NOT! This guy is a Joke!. You are Missing Something. You are missing a lot. Read 1 Cor. The idea of a personal prayer language is very present. "Pray in the Spirit often." Jude.
@jamesplaggemeyer72989 ай бұрын
Context of all scripture is known languages. 1 Corinthians 14 :2 needs to be interpreted in light of clear passages. I have had to learn that principle over the years. Used to speak in tongues and stopped many years ago. All scripture is God breathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correction, and training in righteousness that the man of God may be throughly equipped for every good work. To much error has invaded the evangelical church.
@jolenedelilys2589Ай бұрын
First Corinthian strongly portrays the idea of a personal prayer language. "Ministerial Tongues" is another gift. In fact, the whole of 1 Cor. seems to be suggesting it is best used in private. Paul says, "I'm glad I speak in tongues more than all of you." Jude says, "Pray in the Spirit often." Give 1 Cor. another read. It's all there -- personal, private prayer language. Do it.

Amen, and amen brother. Spot on conclusion, and refreshing to hear it from someone who had an "experience" as most often the tongues camp will invalidate those who never had one, and take the same line of reasoning as you.
