No Cover is the only true original music competition show focused on changing the lives of unsigned artists. This series is about discovery, mentorship, hard reality and launching careers. No Cover is created and produced by the music business, not traditional Hollywood studios. We believe this is the show fans and musicians around the world have been waiting around for years to see and it’s finally here! NO COVER, NO MERCY!
No Cover was filmed on location at the legendary Troubadour and Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, CA. 25 of these original artists will be competing for the top prize, which includes a six figure recording contract with Sumerian Records, representation from United Talent Agency and Shelter Music Group, performance slots at a Danny Wimmer Presents Music Festival, a $10,000 shopping spree from Guitar Center, PLUS! brand new gear from Gibson USA, Mesa Engineering, Ernie Ball, Liquid Death and Discmakers. No Cover features five main celebrity judges: Alice Cooper, Lzzy Hale, Gavin Rossdale, Bishop Briggs and Tosin Abasi. What a great show! Props to everyone who worked on this. The format is solid, as is the production. If anything, the mercy segment could be executed more tightly. It was so cool to see a diverse set of acts that are still early in their musical journeys, but also know how to bring it. I'll watch as many episodes as you'll make.

So some of your bands that you have picked up on your record not too fond of but there's a lot of them on there that I just absolutely love and could sit and listen to them for hours on end. PS rock metal punk Gothic operatic or any genre that is rock type based is pretty freaking insane but we must never forget where we came from because it all started out of blues and jazz we just took it to a whole new level and cranked it up the cloud 9 lol keep it loud heavy and melodic 🤘👌

The thing about prog is the genres serve the story the music is trying to tell. So being able to know what flavors each genre does well is part of writing good prog. Metal doesn’t get a pass if musicianship is lacking.

Tosin is the voice of reason in the show. His analytic music producer mind is so so needed in this show. The artists can really take his constructive feedbacks to the drawing board and improve. Especially when the rest of the guys have a heavy connection to the overall feel, lyrics and a very unnecessary obsession with looking like a “rockstar” thingy 😂 I don’t get it.

Tosin provides the technical knowledge. Gavin's focus is lyrics Lizzy and the other girl talk about marketing and look. Alice is just there for star power and to get boomers to watch. I think taking the advice they all provide would make a pretty successful band. Kind of like a whole package deal. At least we don't have to look at Simon Cowell

@antigravity420
@antigravity420 2 жыл бұрын
This was the best episode so far. Every group was worth watching. Here's my two cents after watching all of the bands but not hearing the who won or the seeing the part where they talk to the A&Rs. Kodiak - I got very confused in their introduction. The lady said they are managed by Vinny Appice but mentions Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart. Carmine Appice (Vinny's brother) was in Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart. Vinny was the drummer for Dio. Whichever Appice brother manages them, I'm sure they are already in good hands, so I'm not sure why they're on the show. As far as their music and performance goes, they brought some energy. Rockin up tempo song. It is exactly what you'd expect from a band who's influences are Motley Crue and other 80's rock bands. Nothing special but no complaints. I don't think they are a winner for this show but they will do fine if 80's rock comes back to life. Josie Pace - Industrial is not one of my favorite genres. Basic song. So basic that I'm not sure why this drummer brought his own kit. He's not playing anything that can't be played on that kit in the back. Really good vocals, good look and they played tight. I thought of Army of Me by Bjork while hearing the song. Maybe this would be good for a sci-fi or action movie soundtrack. Might be a good fit to open for a group like Puscifer though. Kallias - This is the best band that's appeared on the show so far. Although I love Tosin and Animals as Leaders and Polyphia. I don't think 100% instrumental is the way to go. People want to relate to your music and vocals is the easiest way to connect. I'm not sure if the transition from the intro riff to the second riff was intentional or if it was just an edit from No Cover to fit the song into a time window. Good stuff though. I like the grove. The drummer loses his hands a little bit when he does the super-fast heel toe but I can't blame him, that is a difficult section. For me this group has beaten every band that has been on the show before them. This kind of band is what I expected most of the bands to be like on this show. *Side note, the strobe light was hard to watch. I'm not sure why those things were ever popular. Maybe give an epilepsy warning prior to the show. Mourning Sun - Here we have another winner. It's about time. These last two bands are totally what I expected to hear throughout this competition. Yeah, really great musically. Good screaming. I usually like some clean vocals but this was really good for one song. I'm not sure I'd want to listen to a whole album without melodic singing. Tosin mentions it but I never heard him trying to sing low melodically. Maybe it was edited out. They were having a good time playing, especially the bass player. It's a coinflip for me on who wins this episode between Kallias and Mourning Sun. If either of these bands were on a separate episode they'd both be winners. I think I'd go with Mourning Sun in this instance though. Just because they brought the vocals and had more energy to their song. That's not to take away from Kallias. I think they did a great job. I think No Cover should be hour long episodes. I'd love to hear the entire song from each band. That would make it better than any cookie cutter show on national TV that just shows clips of the performance. Some songs are built on dynamics and need the changes represented properly. Plus there are times that the judges are giving advice and you only get a portion of what they are saying because it's cut for time. Also, I'd love to see drummers playing their own kits. I know I mentioned the one band that brought their own kit to play a basic beat but some drummers have different set-ups that may enhance how their playing comes across in their song. I know it's a time issue but these bands have one shot to make a good first impression. Those are my thoughts. If you read this whole comment, I'd like to hear what you think. It's cool if you disagree with everything that I just said. No need to get upset.
@antigravity420

I just watched the council. Wow they hated Mourning Sun. I didn't love them but I thought they were the best group on this show. If they would play to a click they might have come across a little cleaner and tighter. I like what they play during the verse though, it's like a 4 pattern riff. I don't think Kallias wants to do the collab. Maybe if they just had the singer or got to have a singer of their choice but it looks like they have to take a couple people from that band. Also, the part where the one A&R says "Who is the most popular instrumental group"? and dude responds with, "we listen to Opeth". The clear response should have been "Animals as Leaders". He would have nipped that one in the bud right there.

I enjoy watching No Cover. Here's just a small correction... Well, someone must've mentioned this before: Carmine Appice (not Vinny Appice as was mentioned after 1:28 in this video) was the drummer who was in Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart's band. Vanilla Fudge was mainly active in the late 1960s and Carmine has been in various other bands after that. If you want to hear more 1980s hard rock & metal I recommend the first King Kobra album "Ready to Strike" from 1985. Carmine Appice was the founder of that band and he was also a member of Blue Murder. You might want to check those bands out. Vinny Appice is Carmine's younger brother. He started in mid-1970s playing in Rick Derringer's band for example. He's very well known as the drummer of Dio. Before that he played on the Mob Rules album, which was the second Black Sabbath album featuring Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Both drummers are great. If someone is reading this and haven't heard the first three Dio albums I wholeheartedly recommend them to you. Take care and have a great day.

FINALLY!!! Thank God this week is a vindication of last episode. Every band this episode had something worthy. For me, "Josie" and ""Mourning Sun" stood out. I was a bit worried last week. But the bands this week definitely revealed what this show could potentially be. I do wish "NO COVER" all the best and seriously hope they continue moving forward with this concept. America and the Global Music Industry has been lacking that "NEW" thing for decades. One thing is certain, this medium has the potential to uncover the NEXT BIG Thing. While, I believe there has definitely been some Great bands on NO COVER, I feel there is still so much undiscovered talent around the Nation that is truly deserving of this opportunity and exposure. The caliber of talent was much stronger this week. To the bands, I would say, stop playing it safe. Every time you are given this stage, YOU need to play as if it is your LAST chance! Great job, NO COVER!!....OH yeah, the COLLABS, should become a permanent part of this show. In fact, would be cool for you guys to not just pick an already existing band as the winner BUT, should also be vetting every musician for a potential Collaboration. Maybe build a band in the end as well. Would already have the fan base in place to push a product. Even if only one tune.

I have never disagreed with an episode so much as this one!! Mourning sun killed it!! It was the only band that woke me up! They did everything to the tea and nail!!! I loved mourning sun! I am so mad that they didn't even get a 2nd chance in the mercy council!! Honestly this is one of those times where mourning sun will have to prove everyone wrong. Keep doing things the way yall have it that was a perfect performance and I don't know what they heard but yall literally woke me up off the bed!! Definitely hope to see them on tour!!

I can appreciate that this show was put together and I agree more with what Tosin's face speaks during performances. For the judges, I bet it's very challenging to be constructive instead of cut-throat like the music industry actually is. I still think the A&R section of the episodes are a joke. Advice I could give any band. Don't do these events. Craft your music, record your music, make videos, hit the social media hard, create a buzz and a following yourself. Best advice I ever got from any A&R rep or label, "If we don't already know who you are, we don't care. Why should we?" Sure it was harsh to hear, but so true.

It's painfully obvious gavin and alice dont listen to alot extreme metal music. also the reason why bands in the death metal/grindcore/powerviolence/crust and other more extreme stuff don't usually appear in competition. screaming has been going on in heavy music for so long, alice and gavin are so wack for that. aside from hardcore punk, bands like Mr bungle were screaming in the 80’s and they’re considered pure art. much better music than anything alice or gavin ever made.

this episode had some good bands imo. mourning sun was cool, alice's critiques were whack. "If you're gonna scream why even bother writing lyrics" lmao what. some of his takes on this show are SO bad, someone take their gramps to bed. Josie was cool too, they def had a catchy song and good chorus. Kallias was alright, obviously skilled but it wasn't the most memorable song.

This was a much better ep than the last two. Mourning Sun was my favorite. Of course the most pop band won, but they were interesting and good. I can't believe they brought the 80s band back really but the guitarist could wail. It's crazy this is a Sumerian sponsored or whatever show and the judges couldn't get the "dog bark" vocals?? Gavin and Alice are the worst judges of the panel imo. But...what do I know? I'm still watching. Interested to see the next round.

This was their best episode because for me non of these bands didn't bore me or bore me entirely. Kodiak was the least original but the vocals were strong and the musicians, especially the guitar player was awesome. Josie Pace does this industrial mix, which for me personally isn't my thing, but they have a combination of other genres and are the most original sounding band in today's episode and I agree with the judges on them getting the win. Good live performance and good energy especially with no audience. Vocals could be better and probably the weakest of the bands vocally but overall very good and deserved to move on and win this episode. Kallias was my favorite band as far as they play my favorite genre but when naming Meshuggah and especially Opeth as influences I was disappointed with not having a vocalist. Instrumental bands are good and prog metal does this to perfection but when you get a great vocalist like Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth it takes prog metal to another level and what makes Opeth one of my favorite metal bands of all time so I was disappointed with Kallias even though they played a genre that I love and I love how they played with their instruments, Morning Sun song was overall my favorite song of the show but they showed too many flaws in their live performance and I can understand the criticism by the judges. But I think in front of an actual live audience this band would be the most fun to watch out of all of these bands today. All and all I liked all of these bands today and would pay to see any of them live.
