No Cover is the only true original music competition show focused on changing the lives of unsigned artists. This series is about discovery, mentorship, hard reality and launching careers. No Cover is created and produced by the music business, not traditional Hollywood studios. We believe this is the show fans and musicians around the world have been waiting around for years to see and it’s finally here! NO COVER, NO MERCY!
No Cover was filmed on location at the legendary Troubadour and Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, CA. 25 of these original artists will be competing for the top prize, which includes a six figure recording contract with Sumerian Records, representation from United Talent Agency and Shelter Music Group, performance slots at a Danny Wimmer Presents Music Festival, a $10,000 shopping spree from Guitar Center, PLUS! brand new gear from Gibson USA, Mesa Engineering, Ernie Ball, Liquid Death and Discmakers. No Cover features five main celebrity judges: Alice Cooper, Lzzy Hale, Gavin Rossdale, Bishop Briggs and Tosin Abasi. No Cover is hosted by Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) Caity Babs (Sirius/XM) and Matt Pinfield (MTV, Vh1)

What I realized half way through the episode is there's no sob story interview for each band. I'm sure their journeys to create what they have today is amazing! but it's so refreshing to just focus on the music and talent, and to not have big headed judges who want to flaunt their celebrity personalities. These band play original songs and get some great critiques and insight. Priceless. Keep it up, Tosin never leave please 😅

This is exactly what I hate about all other competition shows!! Like only the ones that deserve to win, win b/c of their sob story. Like no thanks, I don't need to be emotionally manipulated to think someone is talented. Just let them show me. Ugh thanks for letting me rant!

I'm so glad that Lzzy spoke up for Josie in that moment, because he really did need to step back and let her speak for herself. I was pretty annoyed by the reverb comment, because it's such a standard thing to give vocals a sense of space. Imagine saying, "I hate compression, it's over done" in that kind of a context. The reverb doesn't even need to be loud, even a subtle amount could help enhance her vocals.

Imagine acting like this in front of a panel of well established artists.. how conceited would you have to be to say "its overdone". Maybe if you had a song that didnt sound like generic trash it wouldn't matter

Reverb is the first vocal effect people go for to "add something", and it's the easiest to abuse. It makes anything sound "like everything else". If you don't want to sound "like everything else", then don't go for reverb. Modulated delay, maybe some overdrive to give it some harshness, maybe a flanger. Anything but reverb.

Slay Squad and Josie are the one with which I have the most musical affinity, however Howl totally deserved this win. Those guys are great songwriter, amazing virtuosi and function both as great standalone musicians and as a unit. They are impressive. Slay Squad that's totally the music I am digging at the moment, but they would benefit from faster moments. They have the violence, the aggression, the heaviness, they lack just a moment when they totally unleash the madness with a Thrash Metal section or even a blast beat. That'd be amazing! Josie Pace (as a band) has great songwriting and great hooks, the Perfect Replacement was so well crafted, those start/stop transitions were sick. The second song was dynamic even though a bit too linear imo, but the ending was chaotic and heavy. I would have loved if they strechted it a bit more and add one more chorus after that. But definitely I'll keep an ear on those bands as they are sick! Definitely the toughest semi final already

This show has hit a point where everyone left is putting on great performances, which is absolutely unreal considering the limits they had when these were recorded. 3 dudes slaying stringed instruments in unison with a solid drummer behind them is pretty much my religion, so THE NATIVE HOWL had my vote from the get go. Haha. I'm suprised by the depth, nuance and sincerity of the judges at each episode. The fact that they just do stuff and the hosts don't really know if it's ok and that in the end it got kept in the final edit of the episode makes me think that there is commitment to some measure of transparency and sincerity in the process. Then again, to what extent this feel is voluntarily crafted by the production, that I don't know...

@@lovefist86 I do like what they do and how they do it, but I do see it turning into a Kentucky Headhunters/Georgia Satellites thing: one smash album and a couple of hits in regular rotation, but 10-12 songs at most before it gets repetitive. There's really only so much that can be done with such a unique concept that resides in its own narrow niche. You have to eventually lean more towards one side after a while - will it be straight Bluegrass, or will someone break out a Les Paul and a Triple Rec? In reality, it was never too much of a stretch to put Thrash drums behind traditional Bluegrass, because both of those were always about the same tempo to begin with. I used to do pummeling Thrash rhythms to a drum machine set to Bluegrass and Polka beats at 120 BPM and thought it sounded better than the "Metal" and "Rock" patterns, which either had too much of a swinging/danceable feel, or were so dry and metronomic that it may as well have been a wall clock. Maybe they could spice it up by starting in the middle and hopping back and forth between a crushing Thrash amp tone and the banjo+acoustic, but the vocals going right down the middle the whole time. Plink-plink-plinky-plink-zhug-zhug-zhugga-zhug.

@@stevenparrish903 yessir! And even though they didn't make it they've already been signed to label, and rightfully so (as this was filmed last year) and they just put out a new album which just kicks ass. From day one I just binged their YT channel for a few straight days and went through almost everything on their playlists, especially the live concert on there! Pure phenomenal, and they Collab with Sammi Doll alot who is also phenomenal. With Lzzy Hale's comment it became clear she was treating them as a back up session band for hire supporting Josie when she said what she said to them which I found kinda condescending, because all it takes is two minutes of time to research their content in their YT channel and clearly see the band is a band that's been together from the beginning and they all co-write everything together! They all play multiple instruments and sing, and like Tosin and Alice said they know what they want, they busted their asses for years to hone their craft and vision, their audio production is polished and tight, and they are extremely talented and in tune with each other collaboratively! I'm also biased towards them because progressive rock, industrial, and electronic fusion music is my favorite of all genres, and I love just about all genres. But I grew up with groups like Front Line Assembly, Future Sound of London, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Tool, and later, Animals As Leaders, Android Lust (which is about the only thing I could come close to comparing Josie Pace to) Puscifer, Milla Jovovich (a musician looong before an actress), Carina Round, Anilah... I guess I feel at home and one with a group like Josie Pace because the majority of my own music is electronic, synth heavy, with fusions of tribal, soundscape, metal, and industrial...whereas I feel entertained as an outsider with a group like Night Howl and they're still awesome because they are truly original and innovative as well as creative. I've never heard anything like it! It's also clear that this show is in all honesty, about them finding a group or an artist that can kinda be groomed and molded into what they want from them, and not so much about signing anyone they feel is too good for the show to begin with. Just my thoughts, feelings, and opinions and I love this show. It's the only music competition show I've ever watched all the way through from start (other than So You Think You Can Dance, because my daughter is in dance learning jazz, tap, and ballet) and I love how different this show really is (mostly) from other music or vocal competitions out there. And of course being an Animals As Leaders fan almost from day one, having Tosin Abasi is just icing on the proverbial cake! Maybe season two they bring in Matt Garstka to help give guidance to any struggling rhythm sections! Cheers man, have a blessed one!

IMO she needs to step into the "look". She looks like Wendy O., but sounds like "not Wendy O.". Maybe if she sounded like Debbie Harry, because they have a bit of a Blondie thing going on with the synths and drums, and not-harsh vocals. The rest of the band needs to get with "the look" the lead singer is doing, as well, because it's like watching the talent show portion of Revenge of the Nerds - one guy dressed like Elvis, two guys dressed like Devo, one guy dressed like Michael Jackson, etc. They need to agree on a unified look, either everyone do the Wendy O. look or the Duran Duran look or the Huey Lewis look, but not all 3 at once.

The difference between the two contenders for me was I'd definately pick up a Jose album whereas I'm not sure I'd need a Native one but on the other hand I'd be delighted if they supported any band I'd gone to see. Jenny did great.. the band was just not well practiced… the keyboards were struggling the whole time and since they harmonized with her vocals it was very distracting when they were so off beat on that song.. the bland patch on the keyboard was also really not doing any favors to the size of the mix imo

@@toribiogubert7729 I agree that would be an improvement, I'm more okay with how her vocals are. Personally I think their act would benefit more from having a bassist to add more depth, and that could add some grit at times as well. I love them together regardless though

@@ericswearingenmusic9967 Yeah the band really didn't do her any favors here, but that's the performances she put forward. Firstly, I love this show. I didn't know I wanted or needed this, but I am thankful for every new episode. Thank you for featuring new rock bands in a world of nothing but pop. This was a tough round. --- The Native Howl is just great. I am ready for the tour. I have been listening to "southern gothic" or hybrid bluegrass and rock for a long time, but this is so refreshing. They are so polished and refined their identity. Such great stage presents and variety in their music. I love Josie. I love that industrial goth vibe, but I keep wanting some kind of growl or scream when the chorus hits. The sound and visual are so edgy, but I feel the voice lacks some of that industrial/punk sound. I could see myself listening to it, but not really getting invested. Slay Squad is good and I think they would have a great market, but just not my preference. A lot of their songs sound the same to me. If I was listening to this album I feel like I couldn't distinguish the different songs. I disagree with the judge one the feedback. Jenny just seems to me like she has no identity. She is trying to fit into whatever box will get her signed. It was bland and drab. I feel like she googled "rock outfit" on Amazon. LOL! She is pop, not rock. Not even pop rock. She lacks the intensity for the competition.
