Also I am SO with you about trashy romance/paranormal book covers. Some are so embarassing I have a hard time buying them at all, let alone taking them out in public. I mean, people can say what they will about those generic "girl in a flowy dress with her back turned" YA covers, but at least I don't feel embarassed for having them.

After just finishing a book about abuse I now loathe the "I'm horrible to you because I know what you need more than you do" trope even more. Why are authors promoting partner abuse? Why? Why do we need that in our books? Also I am with you with those overhyped authors. I have tried to read them but I always get disappointed so now I avoid them like the plague.

I've heard some authors are against having trigger warnings in their books because they consider them spoilers. It would be so easy for publishers/ authors or whatever to place them after the last page of the book so that people who are looking out for them can know and others who don't care either way can skip them.

I get your frustration with romance covers, but there's a reason for it. Especially if you are not the ultimate A-lister. I tried a more artsy take on a romance series once. It didn't sell at all. Changed the covers to fit the genre, and what do you know? They started selling. And I've seen and heard of similar situations from a lot of other authors. But whenever I talk to readers at conferences, they always say they want different covers. And it's not always about how it looks in public (because most read on ereaders anyway), it's more about them wanting to see something else. Yet at the end of the day, a cover that communicates genre easily will sell better. A little sad, but true.

Haha! The overhyped one had me rolling! I love Victoria Schwab with a passion (as a writer and human), but I'll be the first to admit that her books are NOT for everyone! NO BOOK IS FOR EVERYONE! My personal opinion on that one is Sarah J. Maas. >.< I loved the Raven Cycle, but I have to agree with the ending. It still irks me. I've heard good things about Radio Silence.

I totally agree with you on The Raven King. Like, I love the whole series, but I feel as if the ending was a let down. It's like when Vampire Diaries made me cry over a certain character dying... Then magically resurrected him. Also. Henry. Like he was amazing, but I feel like he could have been inserted way earlier if he was meant to be a part of the Gangsey. But overall still loved it. Also, loved this video. Thanks for the new upload.

“All those older paranormal books that everyone was obsessed with in 2013 and 2014.” *insert flashbacks to having VA release parties with my friends in 2008* Oh that line cut deep :( That said agreed on the covers every YA series that came out when I was middle school was designed to be ugly and embarrassing. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m the only person I know who read The Raven King and wasn’t horribly let down?? I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t think it was nearly as disappointing as most people did. I thought it made more sense as no matter what happened, especially with Glendower, it would never meet readers’ (and Gansey’s) expectations. It wasn’t as epic as we wanted because it couldn’t be. That said, I’m currently rereading it in between catching up on my Goodreads challenge so we’ll see how I feel about it not on release day. (Also excited for the Dreamer Trilogy if only to see what this new fancy Gansey is like because that was...a little bit jarring ngl.)

When you said Marie Lu, I audibly gasped b/c she's my favorite author xD I've met her multiple times at book signings and she is super sweet even though she writes really dark stories haha. She talked about how she hoped Adelina would make the right choice at the end, so I figured that what happened in The Midnight Star was basically that. And there's an epigraph at the end that explains the book title and kind of reverses that spoiler that you were mad about xD So it still does have a happy ending for her and everyone else, in my opinion :)

I actually mostly agree with you on the overrated authors part, so... Least favorite book that I've read since booktube: Graceling. Dear goodness that book... Oh. And Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas. That was most disturbing as far as romances go. Book that needs more recognition: The Summer of Letting Go by Gae Polisner. I love uncensored opinions and people being "salty."
