Have a stock SF2 Championship Edition Arcade 1UP cab. My buttons are crapping out on the player 1 side so I ordered a Sanwa stick and Sanwa buttons. Still waiting on the buttons in the mail. But I put in the stick at the time of this comment. I reused the 1UP faceplate and put it on the Sanwa stick per the video. My stick came with a 5 point connector with open wire ends, but I didn’t need to order the wiring harness separately I was able to re-use the wiring harness on the stock stick. Play tested it and everything seems to be working fine and the Sanwa stick is much more responsive. Can’t wait to get the buttons.

So I did this upgrade to my A1U Ms Pacman cocktail cabinet and it was very straight forward; took under an hour to replace both joysticks. It's funny to see how much the installed joysticks resembled toys as opposed to the Sanwa's that are built very solid. While it's a subtle difference in gameplay, I am glad to have done it for the longevity of the cabinet. The hardest part was my needing to also take off the top of the cabinet since I didn't have a screwdriver small enough to remove the control decks without doing so. Getting the plexiglass back on without trapping any dust / pet hair has been challenging. I also noticed (I think like you) that the player 1 side used a ton more glue than player 2, but was able to get the old joysticks off with a little extra force using a tool in my iFixit toolkit. Thanks for the idea, and detailed instructions on how to get this done.

Unqualified Critics, Now I finally get why you choose Sanwa sticks (other than personal preference). They look super easy to install in an Arcade1up cabinet. Me, I'm a HAPP guy as those were the sticks and buttons I grew up with in American arcades. HAPP sticks are larger, so I could see them being a nightmare to install in Arcade1up's current cabinets and would probably need further modification. I do have a cabinet from Rec Room Masters that has HAPP buttons and sticks, so at least I have one cab that feels like that 80s arcade I remember :) Great vid as always! vgv

@SaviorGabriel4 жыл бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ-4g5WKj615raM This is a short video showing how to replace the tension spring on a Sanwa joystick. It's a fairly simple mod to do. I believe a 4lb spring should be sufficient as I've heard those are generally what an actual arcade cabinet would have, but you can use a different one if you prefer. All you're really doing by changing the spring is adjusting how loose, or tight the stick will feel when you move it. Heavier springs will give the joystick a tighter feel, and lighter springs will make it looser.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this is way more convoluted than just drilling 4, small holes to accept the Sanwa plate as-is (which I've done, and it's pretty darn easy). I feel like taking this many components apart and having to re-assemble them is adding complexity and chance for error.
@robtaylor88163 жыл бұрын
This is harder for most people as it requires the holes to be drilled and the joystick to be dead-center. Swapping the plate is super easy.

Tried this on my Street Fighter 2 cab, and unfortunately the Sanwa stick didn't fit on the stock mounting plate. Had to use the Sanwa plate and drill new holes. WEAK!

Damn they must’ve updated the plate after wave one then

How do I know what wave my arcade machine is? I have the pacman plus cabinet with 8 games including Galaga and digg dug. Just got it this week, does anyone know which wave that is?
@UnqualifiedCritics4 жыл бұрын
That's gen 4 but the key thing is gen 1 (yellow pac man, street fighter, etc), gen 2 (mortal kombat, etc.) and then everything newer. There was a big quality improvement after gen 2

I just did the Sanwa stick swap on my QVC Pac-Man Plus cab. It required the (double 4pin/wave 3) 12inch cable option. The mounting plate swapped over perfect too. I used the screws from the A1Up stick to mount the stock plate on the Sanwa. Excellent upgrade. You prob figured this out by now but just a heads up.

@@jasonlo8780 Also..do yourself a favor and purchase a couple of springs if you dont already have. They're like under 2$ each. I purchased a 2lb and a 4lb. Using the 2lb currently and it feels really nice. Gonna try the 4lb soon and see what i like better.

@UnqualifiedCritics4 жыл бұрын
It's wave 3 or 4 but either way it's the same harness. And 12" probably works but grabs the 17 to be safe
