This is a great solution to that. In this video I will show you step-by-step how to install a Stern Saver transducer mount. It's simple and saves you from having to drill through the transom of your boat.

Looks great. Do you think mounting one on the deck of the boat to mount a fish finder? I have a fibreglass boat. There is an old mount there, but I thought I could use this to cover the holes and mount new fish finder. A ram mounted fish finder.

Just bought a Lowrance Hook 7 Tripleshot and I have been looking at transducer blocks. I thought I would go with the cheaper 3M backing but after your video, I am going to spend the extra money to get longer life out it. Thanks again for another great video!!!

@@larrystoneberger6434 I have not installed it yet. I’ve ordered the transducer block and a swivel mount. All the parts will be here this weekend. Then I just need the time to get it all together. I’ve done a lot of research and watched a lot of videos and for what I needed, this one seems the best fit.

I just mount a 2x3x1inch thick strip of oak right below the top edge of the transom. I use 3M 4200 adhesive and then mount my GPS to the wood strip.

How has that location worked out for you? I'm assuming you have a side imaging transducer? I read not to put the transducer by the outside edge of the boat because of turbulence, but that would be the best location for me to put it. Just like you did.

Looks solid as heck.. Like the block ides with the epoxy.. With the screws.. use some bule tape on the drill bit for measurement so you don't drill to far.. Done that way to many times, Curious on the flex of the alum boat or water riding on the transducer to how long the epoxy will hold .

As far as I know, all the ones I've installed are still on. Haven't installed this in my personal boat yet but I'm sure I will at some point.

I've found some stern transducer mounts to be more hassle than they're worth. While they may prevent extra holes in the transom, they are often not as solid as the transom material and allow the transducer to either flex too much or the screws don't grip very well within the mount material. Holes in the transom are easy enough to patch up anyway, and use of 3M 5200 on any screws going into the transom will create a water-tight seal around the screw permanently.

I do use a transom saver for my 9.9. It's the safest way to go to ensure you are not damaging your transom over time when trailering your boat.

Thanks for video. I’m getting to install SI transducer on my 1448 Jon boat. I’m on the heavy side and with my lead battery my boat tilts to the right. I’m considering tilting the transducer to the left to compensate. Any opinion about this ?

Putting the transducer on the left will help but wouldn't fix the tilt problem created by your battery. Sounds like you may need to relocate your battery or find something else in your boat to move to offset the weight.

I like the idea I can save allot of money by just buying a piece of composite material and Epoxy to putting it on. Alro steel sell this pieces of material that is the same as the Stern saver and pay 1/4 of the price.

It does ; I have a similar setup on my 1988 Seville 19 for almost a decade now; just tape off the square,and then sand the gel coat to dull it, to eliminate the shine; no glue adheres well to polished surfaces, they have no pores or scores for it to grip; i just used a block of white plastic,nylon, a tad over 1/2 inch thick(watch the screw lengths..) that i had lying around; some use kitchen board pieces,but the ideal is 5/8 to 3/4 thickness.

5200 does not bind to HDPE or starboard plastic. Special epoxys will bind to that HDPE plastic.

I can't see why you would go thru all that trouble to mount a transducer. All I do it stick it to the boat with GOOP and it stays there. No scaring up the paint. And the nice part of it is you can remove the transducer whenever you want with no marks in the paint!

@@XLI41 Goop is manufacture name. Get the stuff in white tube. It's called Goop Marine sealer and adhesive. sets up pretty quick but pay attention cuz on a vertical surface it will sag. But it works.

The entire sanded area beyond the six epoxy pockets is now bare and exposed to the elements. Not good.

I don't get it :-)......you now glue a piece off plastic that wil never come off again. Why than not just use any piece of marine grade plastic ( or like Josh says any composite material).....some people are making a lot off money on a 3 $ piece off plastic that they now call "transducer mount"...insane haha
