I had a Jinn in the room right on the left of the doorway, like the bedroom with the alarm right in the hallway where this ghost was, he was SUPER friendly, he hunted a good bit but rarely gargled at me or breathed on me, It was like my 6th game and it took me forever to gather evidence, I must've been in this game for an hour. He would just give me signs and mess with the radio a lot. I saw him appear in the closet I was hiding in, model glitched into the doors. He didnt want me, then he opened the door of the closet just the sliiiightest amount, and eventually when he jumpscared me, my sanity went up by a LOT, the more I saw ghost events, the higher my sanity went. I was at 0 and came back to the van at like 50 after like what felt like 40 minutes. TL:DR: Jinns definitely restore your sanity. But I also think I've had other ghosts restore my sanity too.

The best part about the first game was the fact Jinn's usually get very angry if you mess around in their 'lair'. You moved like 10 different items and misplaced them, and the Jinn didn't even get agitated about it. Usually they start appearing in physical form, flickering the lights, moving objects, and obviously hunt if there weren't crucifixes nearby. Super buggy.

You can figure out if its a poltergeist immediately if it moves two objects at the exact same time. If two objects are moving in unison it is without a shadow of a doubt polter. Easiest ghost to identify in my opinion.

@@crabbo70 you are correct that is why you need to be VERY OBSERVANT, oni can move two objects in rapid succession even though mechanically they moved one. Then the other. To the naked eye it could look as though both moved at once. So dont jump to conclusions unless you are positive two objects are moving in unison which can be hard to determine because the ghost can move props that have been moved already.

not gonna lie, if you are uncertain with your evidence like if your EMF gets close, but not up to level 5 and your not sure what to do with it or your temps get close to freezing but it stays at something like 3.1C, looking at the ghost`s behavior is actually a very good tactic.

The most common tactic for situations like that is to just stay in the house longer continuing to gather primary evidence and try to narrow the possible primary evidence down and hope that you can figure it out before you've only got 1 person left. Behavioural evidence is very rarely used by players, as most ghost types don't have any concrete behavioural evidence.

In case you didn't know, when the ghost flickers the lights after you ask it a question on the ouija board, it angers it, which means your sanity drops by 40% no matter what, and on intermediate and amateur the hunt timer immediately stops. So even if that first one was a demon, you angered it by leaving the board on and talking after you got the first answer, so it would've still gone down by 40%

I'm gonna write the exact things about Jinn that I wrote in your candle only comment. Jinn loves to play with electric devices. Most likely play with lights (switching on or off, or sometimes flicker the lights). But unlike Mare, Jinn almost never turn off the breaker. That's why in the journal said that if you cut off power source, Jinn cannot show off his love on the light switches (showing ablity).

Occassionally the ghosts can bug and give sanity for events that are supposed to drain I think. I seem to recall someone else mentioning a bugged Yurei that just pumped you full of sanity when you went near it. tldr: If your sanity jumps up when it should have tanked you can sorta just treat it as if that event tanked your sanity. 🤷‍♂️

I _think_ what happened w/ the Jinn in the first one, you can see that it did drop your sanity by 25% the first time it touched you and was able to do the spooky whisper in your ear. It was _about_ to do it a second time, but you stepped outside of the house before it could touch you and make the spooky noise, which prevented the sanity drop, because the ghost cannot leave the house. You could see the ghost's shadow approaching you, and then immediately disappear the moment you crossed the doorway without any sort of visual or audio effect. I think that's what threw you off.

identifying behaviors in general is a good strat. some ghosts are very easily identifiable based on behavior (jinn, polter, oni in particular)

Just a random observation for hunt #1. It could have been a demon. When you asked the ouija board a question, it answered. But you left it on and were continuing to talk about the foyer after that, triggering an incorrect response from the board. AKA, the board thought you were asking a second question, and an incorrect question is an automatic 40% sanity hit. You can tell you "asked" it an incorrect question because all the lights flickered while you were talking around it (which, again, it thought you were talking TO it). So it was brief, but you technically "asked" the board two questions--one correct and one incorrect. Conclusion was the same, but the path you took to get there was incorrect :)

The LACK of freezing temps instantly rules out Demon as well as any ghost that needs it as evidence. Freezing temps, whether you get it or not, will always cut your ghost pool almost in half, so long as you are certain you are in the ghosts room

1st Hunt: I thought it was Mare halfway in with its activity and constant turning off lights, it never turned on any, also, Jinn’s and Poltergeists have similar traits, such as throwing things a lot, they are very similar so it can be hard sometimes, Jinn is territorial so every time you entered the house, which happens to be the Foyer, it attempted an attack but was slow and failed due to Crucifix, also last but not least, it never went to turn off the box, which means it didn’t roam. I was 99% sure the entire round it was Jinn. At first I thought it was Mare or Jinn, but I always knew it could be Jinn.

44:27 - Jinns are not broken, their 25% insanity increase ability only works when it's hunting and close to you. I have another comment about how the ghost events break but the Jinn does NOT use the SetSanity method (which is what is bugged) but accesses the player's insanity score directly and actually works as intended

This forces you to use up to 3 items so you should choose very carefully what you pick since once you pick it it's going to stick with you all the run. f.e: you can choose to not grab a flashlight so you can get evidence with other items. I was once in a Professional Hunt , had to choose between a Wraith and a Banshee and our sanity was kinda low , we had done all the other objectives so we did not mind leaving the hunt with a random guess. So i said to my friend "Dude , we heard footsteps (and we did hear lots of footsteps ), Wraiths float , they dont walk" so it HAD to be a Bashee. Aparently it was a Wraith Rave Partying.... Be like, "Step on the ground , jump jump jump jump , moving all around , tam tarara" .

40:15 - It's more of an architectural/grammar issue, the dev does not know about properties in C# and instead created a standalone method to change the sanity value. His sanity field is called 'insanity' and his method is called SetSanity(x) where it adds the value 'x' to insanity so for the ghost events he does SetSanity(-25) but because he's completely confused himself over this the math works out to be: _insanity = insanity + x = insanity + (-25) = insanity - 25_ lowering the insanity which means you become more sane

The house I lived in had a like this bumpy brick-tile flooring. A point on the Jinn: Jinn don't drop your sanity being near them. They drop your sanity when they use their special ability on you. Jinn can teleport basically anywhere on the map for a jump scare, and if you are within a few meters of them when they do it THEN you take a massive hit to sanity. So even if you think your safe and far from the ghost they can randomly hit you. This is just for jump scares not for hunts, and specifically if it uses it's ability and not just general messing around. It is Yurei who will drain your sanity just being near them. They basically double damage to all sanity attacks; so ghost events and darkness now hit sanity twice as hard as long as it's fairly close to you.

What would be nice if they could add to this is a way to check your sanity outside the van. Granted that would make no evidence runs much easier, but the walking speed really makes calculating sanity drop so difficult sometimes especially if it hunts before you can escape. I get that they want some mechanics to benefit from having a 'guy in the van' which is neat. But Sanity is such a crucial part of the game. But you know what? I play Dark Souls so like, what am I complaining about actually? More challenging is good! Forget I said anything lawl

I'm typing this before watching the end of the 2nd hunt, and I'm 100% sure it's a wraith, because wraiths don't like walking on salt, and when they do they increase their agressiveness/hunt factor by alot, It's mentioned in the files itself of the game that it makes wraiths angrier and increases chances of a hunt...

at the second ghost, after it has answered to question "where are you?", you can ask like "what is your favourite place?", it answers on both question. I mostly got the same answers. Edit: just now got to the part where the guy in chat says my exact comment lol 2# Edit: just love editing along the video. Jinns LOVE playing with lights and doors, they're like positive, deadly ghosts. Wraiths CAN SEE THROUGH doors, closets and cabinets. btw Love your videos man, really making me just want to keep playing Phasmo even more :D

If you ever do another no evidence challenge, you should be able to use the emf reader to find out where the ghost is

@@Insym Well on top of it being super fun, It helps when you have stubborn ghosts that won't give you evidence. Like maybe you just have EMF 5, but then it's like half an hour for another piece of evidence, so you can help narrow it down by behavior. I hope in the future someone will do like... a "behavior" guide. I've seen some stuff, but nothing that gives in game examples of their explanations, you know? The journal is a good starting point, but a bit of a deeper dive into how actual in game behavior shows up.

I guess that's not really the best either, because sometimes ghosts can just behave super weird. I had an amateur game with the most active ghost i've ever played against. Less than 2 minutes into the game, I asked for a sign, it then proceeded to: Turn on the sink, open the door to the bathroom, and open the door across the hall within just 20 seconds of each other. I thought for sure Demon. No finger prints, freezing temps RIGHT away. 20 minutes later and we find out it's a Yurei. I could just have a poor understanding of ghost behavior tho.

Nah I had a jinn in a highschool professionnal difficulty, it drained my sanity in a very fast pace, but I figured out that it was a jinn since it hunted me in a very fast pace and I cutted corners and it lost speed every time I did that, which gaved me the hint about the ghost type and could outrun it thankfully :). And of course turning of the power source of the location confirmed what it was afterwards.

The "foyer" is the name of the fireplace, in a house it's normally located in the living room, the convivial room of the house, where everyone hang out ^^ That's also why it's called like that (and often used for a whole household), because everyone is usually in the same place, like charcoal in a... well... foyer x)

In North America foyer is almost always used to describe an entryway. Colloquially it can differ from region to region. In Maine, where my mother is from, they call the foyer the mudroom. A lot of people put decorations there. In Tanglewood it's designated as the front hall. Talking about fireplaces will confuse people into thinking foyer = living room.

@@itsraining8962 Mudroom and Foyer in North America are interchangeable. It just depends on region which terminology is used. Foyer can be a hallway or it can just be a space that opens out to multiple paths to get around the house. It is just the area that you step into upon entering the house. If the house doesn't have a foyer you just step into the living room upon entry. Super common to not have a foyer, like many row homes in Pennsylvania. Two common floorplans for houses are used in Phasmophobia. www.naguide.com/phasmophobia-tanglewood-street-map/ In Tanglewood, we can see that it is designated as the front hall. www.naguide.com/phasmophobia-ridgeview-road-house-map/ In Ridgeview, we can see it is the area you immediately step into walking in the front door. The lobby of Brownstone High could also technically be called a foyer, but they don't use that terminology in-game. I was just telling OP he would confuse people by using definitions that aren't applicable to the game.

@@mistersadaimusic yeah I live in the US. Kinda weird how different people call things lol. Where i grew up the mudroom was just called the mudroom (if the house even had one) and the living room was interchangeably called either the foyer or the livingroom. It depended on who was talking ig. Family on my mom's side would call it the foyer and vise verse on my dad's side. My grandma is from Germany though so that probably affected things lol.
